Fuck fuck fuck. Roll on the Six Nations though, England and Italy fighting it out for the wooden spoon.

nv was maybe right

Greig Laidlaw tells ITV Sport that the referee should have gone upstairs to review the final penalty decision.

And, by golly, he should have.

It looks clearly like Nick Phipps - the Australia scrum-half- got the final touch on the ball before offside Scotland prop Jon Welsh instinctively grabbed it.

That should have been an accidental offside and a scrum-down Australia.

that is an even bigger sickener

radio commentators were pretty livid, especially when Joubert hightailed it off the pitch at the final whistle

tayto fan (Michael B), Sunday, 18 October 2015 19:53 (eight years ago) link

So sad. We missed our most aggressive players, and their intensity. Still. Awful.

theres no discounting the importance of the missing players tbf, think any one of them could have made the difference today despite the large final deficit. was full sure that wed come back to win after narrowing it to three.

deejerk reactions (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 October 2015 23:03 (eight years ago) link

Sounds like Folau, Pocock, and Sio might all struggle to make the semi. Might make it a pretty tight game to call - Argentina looked good against Ireland. Solid forwards as always, but their backs are getting more creative and there's some real pace out wide.

All Blacks should beat South Africa if they play near their potential.

That game nearly gave me a heart attack. A deserved win though I think.

It was surprisingly close for a two tries to zero victory. That first NZ try was a forward pass, right? I instantly thought it was, like blatantly. Everyone seemed to agree this on Twitter but not one person on TV even raised the question.

TV3 pundits mentioned it but didn't make a big deal of it. It looked like a forward pass to me too. Obvious forward pass. More people seem to discussing this McCaw elbow rubbish today.

WHAT ABOUT THAT FINAL

franny glasshole (franny glass), Sunday, 1 November 2015 01:03 (eight years ago) link

great final, best world cup ever

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 1 November 2015 01:42 (eight years ago) link

Makes up for the cricket, I guess, and I'll be glad when I can get news from home that isn't 80% rugby or fretting over what the Aussie & UK papers are saying.

rugby is a niche sport, nobody cares guys

and I'll be glad when I can get news from home that isn't 80% rugby or fretting over what the Aussie & UK papers are saying.

i don't care about rugby but thursday i got a pang of ex-pat patriotism and decided to watch it. great game.

but i never want to hear or read sonny fucking bill fucking williams' name again. it seems like he's in stuff.co's news feed every day for the last several years at least. as well as a dozen other sports stories relating to rugby.

just1n3, Sunday, 1 November 2015 04:04 (eight years ago) link

i missed the last 10, best, minutes though bc i got a phone call that my nana had passed away :(

just1n3, Sunday, 1 November 2015 04:04 (eight years ago) link

That's horrible sorry to hear.

As for me I couldn't catch it but enjoyed the highlights.

Biggest disappointment was France. I very enjoyed watching them play over the years, haven't kept watching it so don't know why they've declined.

otoh it probably wouldn't have mattered if France were at their best or Wales had a fully fit squad as the All Blacks always seem to have had the answers to anything their opponents threw at them.

seven years pass...

i have the height of respect for how rugby officiates vs other team sports generally but wayne barnes is a corrupt prick

Ireland are playing well despite being 6-0 down.

No excuses.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:17 (seven months ago) link

NZ are playing better now. Terrific try.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:21 (seven months ago) link

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:36 (seven months ago) link

if we aren't going to perform in the breakdown or the lineout they will pick us apart

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:36 (seven months ago) link

Losing it at the lineout xxp

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:37 (seven months ago) link

Lineouts have been poor, but they struggled with that against SA for a good chunk of the match too

no gap tree for old men (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:38 (seven months ago) link

as SA did themselves that night i thonk i remember?

we turned them over a lot too which is being reversed tonight

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:39 (seven months ago) link

10 minutes to exert some pressure now

in fact hes also really handsome ive just noticed

but srsly i do think all blacks have been getting away with interference all game so hes just calling it straight now

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:42 (seven months ago) link

great half but if we play like this in the second i think we'll be left well behind by the whistle

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:43 (seven months ago) link

xp I get the feeling Sexton doesn't have the greatest faith in him either from earlier interactions, none of this "yes sir" shite

no gap tree for old men (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:44 (seven months ago) link

ireland has a rich and tragic history and wayne barnes is about 1% of it all by himself

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 19:46 (seven months ago) link

been a fantastic battle and starting the same way this half

yep nerveless

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:17 (seven months ago) link

Ireland going too far too fast and losing nerve I think...

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:21 (seven months ago) link

And Sexton misses it..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:22 (seven months ago) link

couple of poor decisions, trying to force the game far too early i thought

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:24 (seven months ago) link

that was close to a turnover, which nz have done brilliantly all night

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:27 (seven months ago) link

Good time to win a lineout

Ooh shit and a yellow for NZ

no gap tree for old men (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:28 (seven months ago) link

definitely Ireland need to put the squeeze on now rather than looking for those Hollywood passes

no gap tree for old men (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:29 (seven months ago) link

wéan na bearnaí

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:29 (seven months ago) link

xp keenan and lowe not *quite* penetrating with their runs like in other games and i think it is showing that we dont quite have the backup plan we thought

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 October 2023 20:30 (seven months ago) link
