he's my favorite bond
his face annoys me, and i don't mean "annoys" me, either
― just1n3, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 05:20 (eight years ago) link
the only good thing about this movie is bond moving across the rooftops in the opening sequence with total poise and assurance - craig is remarkably graceful
otherwise it was shit, obv

Any analysis of the movie that ignores Dave Bautista's gleefully murderous henchman is a little lacking, I think.
Basically though Daniel Craig is good at playing a version of Bond that I have no interest in watching, even as murder machines go Bourne was at least charming.
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 11:13 (eight years ago) link
I think I just uncritically like movies like this about 90% of the time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
except Sam Worthington movies, those are almost always reliably terrible
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 14:43 (eight years ago) link
Yeah, I occasionally wonder about him - what would it be like to star in, and be completely incidental to, the biggest movie of all time?
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 14:55 (eight years ago) link
he was in Titanic?
― μpright mammal (mh), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 15:07 (eight years ago) link
he played Kathy Bates

The iceberg is more his speed tbrr.
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 15:21 (eight years ago) link
if only worthington could muster a fraction of the charisma of that iceberg

i suggest Daniel Craig go back to being a gay sex object in films like Love Is the Devil.

maybe we should poll the least charismatic leading men of the last decade or so - worthington, jai courtney, taylor lautner, alex pettyfer...

― remove butt (abanana), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 16:26 (eight years ago) link
boy yeah, armie hammer is not as bad as worthington imo but there's another guy hollywood decided needed to happen and you feel bad for everyone involved.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:26 (eight years ago) link
haha yup, finally watching The Social Network made me say "I sort of see how they thought this dude could be an action star but I still don't really see why"
dude should have built up a portfolio of thoughtful secondary antagonist roles before trying to carry a franchise; "The Birth of a Nation" is a good move for him IMO
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:32 (eight years ago) link
i thought he was really good and funny in TSN which really is what puts him a step above fellas like worthington/courtney/lautner et al. also he looked a little bit better than henry cavill in that man from u.n.c.l.e. remake from last year. basing this on the one time i saw the trailer and nothing else.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:35 (eight years ago) link
the problem with him is more that yeah they tried to make him a leading man right away, i think he's alright i guess. the problem with those others (and even cavill) is that they're boring.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:36 (eight years ago) link
lol I couldn't even remember who Jai Courtney was and just I watched Insurgent last weekend
oh and he was in Spartacus: Blood and Sand too? lol dude is the most unmemorable actor I've encountered in a very long time
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:42 (eight years ago) link
the best jai courtney role is his key #2 bad guy role in Jack Reacher, but apparently he's so forgettable that in the plot summary on wikipedia his actually crucial character is referred to as "a man".
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:45 (eight years ago) link
he was also bruce willis' son in Die Hard 5, which alone imo renders the movie non canon
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:46 (eight years ago) link
I spectacularly failed to see Die Hard 5 but I'm certain I would still have zero recollection of him as an actor in it, as he appears to be made almost entirely out of anti-DJP and my brain is actively attempting to reject his existence
like, when his character popped in Insurgent, I was all "ho-hum generic bad guy" and then he started interacting with the leads and they were all "we meet again" and I had the horrifying realization that he had actually been in the first movie as Mekhi Pfeiffer's evil second-in-command and I could barely remember him

garrett hedlund too
cute, but a charisma vacuum
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:51 (eight years ago) link
christ i forgot that both he and worthington starred in terminator movies that everyone hated.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:52 (eight years ago) link
that's how black holes are created
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:53 (eight years ago) link
i used to get garrett hedlund mixed up with garret dillahunt, just because of the name thing. like visually i have never recognized garrett hedlund (whose name in autocorrect get changed to "garrett headlined" which is funny because who'd want to see him headline a thing.)
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:54 (eight years ago) link
haha I remembered Worthington because he is full of anticharisma but I have no idea who Courtney was in that movie at all
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:54 (eight years ago) link
The only thing I've seen Garrett Hedlund in is Troy, so I feel a little better about having absolutely no idea who he is
― its subtle brume (DJP), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:56 (eight years ago) link
courtney was kyle reese in the last one. hollywood casting needs more michael biehns and fewer jai courtneys, really.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 17:56 (eight years ago) link
Just did a Google image search on Jai Courtney; he looks like a plastic head aspiring hairstylists and makeup artists would practice on.

not that it matters, had I seen Genisys I still wouldn't remember who he was

Craig rankings? mine: Royale> Skyfall> Spectre> Solace. and yours?
― piscesx, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 20:46 (eight years ago) link
Royale >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the rest
― Number None, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 21:53 (eight years ago) link
Craig is a great Bond, and I think great at being the charming roguish Bond (cf Casino Royale) but when they decided to go Bourne in QoS it wasn't so great, and going the full Nolan Batman in the last two hasn't really paid off anywhere except the box office. idk i mean people seem to really love skyfall especially but it just feels wrong even if it's "accomplished" in many ways.
― nomar, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 22:21 (eight years ago) link
Of all the things people seem to love about Skyfall, I never got the applause for Bardem - such a hammy (borderline homophobic?) performance
― Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 22:55 (eight years ago) link
Whishaw also unbearable charisma vacuum - I'd rather Jai Courtbey tbh

― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 23:55 (eight years ago) link
I find his acting a bit mannered and try-hard. And he's not very good at jokes. Nice to look at though, totally.
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 00:25 (eight years ago) link
(Basing this only on Skyfall and The Hour, which is unfair - he could be great in other stuff)
― Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 00:26 (eight years ago) link
i'll always remember him from the tv show nathan barley

literally just learned that Sam Worthington went to America and starred in lots of films and video games, also that he married the "where the bloody hell are you" footballer-fucking girl, and they have a baby called Rocket Zot Worthington
