The only way I can make any sense of this one is if it's a They Might Be Giants reference
OMG it is too, how did I not realise. Still sucks though.

river wolf otm, I tried to read qc for a couple of months and it's just 'aren't my characters adorable omg'. dude designs pretty good t-shirts tho.
wtf, the questionable content t-shirts fully reflect dude's lack of drawing ability and unfortunate aesthetic sense

Tombot otm about penny arcade mostly... at least they don't have pretentions of being anything other than a cheetofingered circle jerk. Achewood has its moments of greatness.

Some of them are ok. A lot of the "nerdy in jokes" are really pretty surface level references meant to make Joe Dorito Breath feel better.

Although maybe I should try my hand at this as my cute programmer/indie rocker ex-girlfriend from 2001 seems to get moist for XKCD etc

I like his whimsy ones that arent nerdy, like his one about a whole part of his brain being devoted to building the greatest treehouse ever. I liked that.

This is crazy. Cat and Girl is fantastic. Part of XKCD's charm is that it's more like a blog with random thoughts than a "webcomic" like most of the rest, so even though some of the ones you posted are cringy, it's all good in the end.
Nothing beats Pokey of course.

― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Sunday, 17 June 2007 05:50 (seventeen years ago) link
I hadn't noticed that the time+date on that xkcd hasn't happened. Are his avid readers meant to turn up and propose to him or something?
Anyway, uh, as a corny indie webcomic-reading fuck with a Cat and Girl t-shirt (and I don't read SARC but I used to read Mitch Clem's old comic Nothing Nice To Say, probably more because I like the way he draws characters than anything else, but it had its moments), I have to wonder if there are any webcomics you don't hate, Dom?
Really though, you want to see worse comics, go to keenspace or drunkduck and click on one at random. And if you think you've found the worst webcomic ever, just go through the archives until you see the words "guest strip", and there you'll have a link to an even worse one.
(I am really tempted to link to a friend of a friend's apparent attempts to recreate Love Is... for the Warcraft/livejournal generation, with every other strip being "hiii I was in the pub and Lisa asked me to draw her so here is some unrecognisable Photoshop-daubing with the word Lisa underneath and here is Lisa's gerbil and Lisa likes dolphins so here is a picture of a dolphin lols" "my boyfriend made me a cup of tea he is really nice and i like tea!!" "this strip was late because i am busy lol work sucks huh here is a cartoon of a pile of books and me looking sad!!! :( :(", but I could see them getting upset enough to go through the whole of ILX to find out who I am, so you'll just have to imagine that delight. Also they've improved a bit and taken the really lousy stuff down, but I'm sure there are even worse comics out there which haven't reached that stage yet.)

Dinosaur Story, Cyanide and Happiness, most Natalie Dee.

Glad to hear it. It's perhaps my favourite strip both online and off. The blogs were pretty good as well (when I had time to keep up with them), it's amazing that the characters are so 'credible' and have such distinctive voices.

The explanations Mitch Clem includes underneath his strips are really something. This is for the first one posted in this thread:
Since drawing this comic, it's come to my attention that the above percentage is well over 82%. I base this information solely on the amount of people who were upset after reading said comic and started trying desperately to defend themselves. Listen you guys, you're allowed to do whatever you want, really. But I, for one, am hardly impressed to learn that you know the lyrics to a song (a song), and you will find me nothing short of annoyed if you insist on reciting said lyrics ad nauseam despite my inevitable repeated barks of "PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP, NO ONE CARES!".
Victoria does this, of course (anyone who knows her will be none too surprised), but the actual murder victim in the above strip is none other than Tom "Theater Hopper" Brazelton, whose insistence on reciting the "Humpty Dance" (for those of you too young to remember the "Humpty Dance", just close your eyes and try to imagine what it would sound like if the Holocaust were a rap song) once every hour the last time we were at a comic convention together was nothing short of maddening. I'm fairly certain that, at some point, he was just trying to annoy me, and it worked.
Personally, I'd say the fact that I have damn near every Boris the Sprinkler lyric memorized (including all the between-song monologues) is far more impressive, but I generally only break out that skill in the car by myself. I lead a sad, sad life.
