I hear stories about how this basically serves as anti-immigration propaganda. In that case I suspect it's as good as Zootoopia was bad for a certain demographic (neo nazis).

This could be the best movie of the year and I still wouldn't cross the line I've drawn in the sand between myself and giving one thin dime to cynical adaptations of any IP that didn't feature actual characters in its original iteration (e.g. Battleship and Pop Tarts: The Movie).

Along the same lines, I saw a headline the other day for what I assume was a legitimate news story about an impending Tetris film trilogy.

I think it might've been long enough now that the execs have forgotten the Cavemen debacle and will soon start building projects around advertising characters again. I'm salivating over the idea of a Kellogg's mascot cinematic universe.

What I loved about this was how they managed to craft an interesting backstory around an app. I love that Red, the angry bird, wasn't born angry - he just had big eyebrows, so everyone assumed he was angry, and that's how he became the angry bird. The world made him angry. Similar to Zootopia in that way. I didn't see the Lego Movie but I heard it was great, that they managed to make an emotionally compelling movie based on Legos. Same deal here.

― DJP, Thursday, 26 May 2016 16:42 (eight years ago) link
It got the biggest laugh by far. Whole theater was in stitches. To be clear, most of the movie is just good fun, like the eagle piss, what I found emotionally compelling was Red's backstory. When they actually start destroying the pig city, it was really intense, they were basically committing 9/11 level attacks on each other. Lots of death and destruction in this movie. Still great.

I know you're telling us what you enjoyed about the movie but it's somehow making me hate the entire enterprise even more.

I had an idea for a computer animated movie, it's called The Farts Out Of My Butt Movie and it's based on an app I made featuring talking farts that come out of my butt and in the movie when they come out of my butt maybe they are wearing backwards baseball hats and raise one eyebrow and cross their arms and maybe they also skateboard or something while making a wisecrack that shows what a cool customer they are like maybe they make fun of someone in a wheelchair or something, and something will happen in slow motion while one of the farts says 'nooooooooo' and also one of them says something crazy and there's the sound of a needle being dragged across a record and another fart says 'oh you did not go there talk to the hand' and there will be a dumb fart who can't do anything right and when one fart says like 'I sure could drink a Monster Energy Drink right now' the dumb fart actually gets the first fart an actual monster and not a drink at all, and maybe the farts can also fart and also poop, and naturally there will be a lot of pee and probably vomit and some scabs and if you want to have original songs in it by Miranda Lambert and Lil Bow Wow that would probably be a good idea, the voices will be Josh Gad and Josh Groban and Tay Zonday and Flo from the commercials, you should be able to clear like $500 billion in stuffed fart sales and I have an idea for a whole cinematic universe also (hint: the first sequel will be about sharts).
