Mona Charen @monacharenEPPC

Trump is older than I am, so he definitely saw the riots of the 60s. They were worse than now. Believe me. Believe me.

these people love israel more than anything else he said

and borders. They love borders.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 22 July 2016 03:03 (seven years ago) link

Still think the cadence - "LG. BTQ." - the accents - "reGEEEM change" - and the half-volume parentheticals - "believe me", "no good", "think of this" - are weird, and likely go over badly.

Reminds me of the Jon Stewart speech at that rally where he thought maybe he'd try to be a politician. As soon as he loses the foil of responding to people/news, and the technique of speaking off the cuff, he's a different guy. And much worse on TV.

Plasmon, Friday, 22 July 2016 03:03 (seven years ago) link

Melania's halting applause at the border solution thing...

I know I live in a bubble, but it's hard to imagine anyone outside of this stadium being moved by this unending focus on law and order, terrorism, violence, and illegal immigrants.

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Friday, 22 July 2016 03:06 (seven years ago) link

it's absurdly one-note

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Friday, 22 July 2016 03:07 (seven years ago) link

yeah you really have to be in a fox-news bubble where it's obvious to you and everyone you talk to that this handful of themes are the biggest, hugest, most widely-recognized crucial issues plaguing the country and driving all the problems. if you don't feel that way it's going to feel like he's kinda not talking about anything that matters, even if you are someone who agrees on some of these topics (?)

what i find most mind-numbing about this little shpiel is the relentless hyperbole. everything is the most disastrous, the worst ever, the most massive, and i mean massive, the most horrible murders, or on the flip side the best, the greatest, never again, etc etc etc etc.

and when the FBI stats show violent crime is on the decline for the last few decades, Trump's adviser merely says since the FBI didn't prosecute Hillary, their stats can't be trusted. which happened earlier.
