this is great, but also, what's going to hold ilx together if it's going to keep solving its long-standing mysteries??

We'll have to post another mystery painting.

I'm going to sleep well now finally. Well done.

He seems to be famous for 'agamographs', which change depending on the viewer's angle. It's hard to tell if the piece in the original post is one.

I think the original is not an agamograph (I spent more time than I should have staring at the shadows on the original pic, can't see any suggestions of the ridges). I do like the thought that we might have seen the work in online image searches for ages, but *from the wrong angle*.

two years pass...

Are there any other threads similar to this that try to identify poor resolution art work/posters from the past?

Kind of like a song ID but with a terrible quality graphic?

Might as well use this one?

can you help me identify this image (crappy blow-up from bad snapshot of wall of my HS bedroom, circa '72)? pic.twitter.com/u1ta5I7FIp

Kind of looks like a movie poster or band poster?

vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 March 2019 19:14 (five years ago) link

Probably not. Make a mod request.

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email. I am really sorry but I can't help you and unfortunately 6 years ago we also did not have our online catalog.

All the best

oh THAT email, no, I did not get a response

vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 1 March 2019 19:18 (five years ago) link

oh man, when you wanted the thread de-indexed, I thought it was going to be some elaborate adventure like they invited you up to the gallery to see the actual work of art and then you shagged on top of it or something.

Fr4nç0is Cr01ssant

Wait, surely this is not a real name that needs googleproofing?

emil.y, Friday, 1 March 2019 19:32 (five years ago) link

Apparently so, seems to be the guy in the middle. ttp://cdn.worldredeye.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/31-Benjamin-Grappin-Francois-Croissant-David-Meier.jpg

Holy shit @ monsieur Cr01ssant! I hope he's been entered into either the best or worst real names thread (I cannot decide which it should be).

You could maybe try this thread?
Help me identify the cover artwork on this wall I found in a photo of a bedroom on a property website.

I've spent a while trying to google this and Stevie's original q (like, many pages deep in Google image search every time the thread is revived) but no luck, alas

(also lol at jed's image)
