jesus christ he's saying he might want to make changes to FISA to ensure "innocent Americans" don't get picked up whether "legally or illegally"

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:17 (seven years ago) link

lol he said "it's probably FINE, but we need to be sure and he should know this"

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:18 (seven years ago) link

he doesn't sound like he's thought this through. Tapper asking good questions.

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:20 (seven years ago) link

Why in the world did he briefed Trump?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:20 (seven years ago) link

If it turns out Trump was improperly surveilled -- and maybe he was,why not? -- that will become the story. Trump and his people are good at distancing themselves from obvious wrongdoing. The Democrats aren't good at anything, and this story is convoluted enough that having truth on their side won't matter.

Treeship, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:20 (seven years ago) link

Nunes just said "Trump was in a way right", Tapper didn't let that one stand, made him clarify he was wrong about the wiretap claim.

fuck this goddamn country

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:21 (seven years ago) link

a story that should be alarming people about the doings of the President is now turning into "oh hee hee see Trump was right all along" no matter what the truth actually is.

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:22 (seven years ago) link

yeah, he's just working for Trump, trying to give him an out so he doesn't have to apologize for his outrageous and slanderous lie about Obama

Dan S, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:22 (seven years ago) link

Trump is too dumb to be defeated. He is like a machine, processing everything in this shallow, transactional way, never blinking when something goes wrong for him, just reacting. His animalistic shamelessness represents a new phase in human evolution.

Treeship, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:22 (seven years ago) link

that and pre-empting a shitty news day

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:23 (seven years ago) link

in other news, Ryan just lost another GOP vote: South Jersey Rep LoBiondo is a "no" on AHCA

he's just working for Trump, trying to give him an out so he doesn't have to apologize for his outrageous and slanderous lie about Obama

this seems likely. It's a (v poor, possibly counterproductive) attempt at damage control from Comey's testimony yesterday. But all it does is keep this alive for one more cycle.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:24 (seven years ago) link

I mean wtf at giving a press conference about this and *then* going to tell the President about it, yeah that seems smart.

Nunes hinted it might have been incidental collection a few days ago. he sat on this didn't he, timing when he came forward

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link

VINDICATED ! that's it folks , you can go home now

and a distraction from the pretty massive manafort AP story xp

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link

No, it completely shifts the object of scrutiny from Trump's goons to the intelligence community. It's the end of "Russia" as a story; Republicans henceforth will reaxfnto any new evidence by questioning the manner in which it was acquired.

Treeship, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link

Xp shakes

Treeship, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link

It's the end of "Russia" as a story

lol c'mon bro

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:27 (seven years ago) link

this is obviously what Trump was talking about when he said he would be "vindicated" though, even tho it has zero to do with what he actually claimed in his tweetstorm. It's retroactive ass-covering, and p sloppy at that.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:28 (seven years ago) link

This shit has been happening for a year and a half. Some insane, disqualifying thing about Trump comes up and he shuts it down by deflection. Not even savvy deflection. Crude, stupid, baseless accusations that somehow catch on and become conventional wisdom.

Treeship, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:29 (seven years ago) link

xpost true and I think Treezy is way off about Russia being over as a story as it's already survived with surprising resilience. but we'd be naive to assume some non-critical thinking idiots aren't just looking at the byline and calling it a day.

when I posted the CNN "bill would result in fine for masturbating" story the other day, I could tell who hadn't clicked through to the story prior to reacting. retractions/clarifications/corrections wont' matter. the press needs to get it right the first time now. editorialize the fuck out of this. the byline should be "Nune states Trump data might have been legally collected, does not corroborate Trump claims"

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:30 (seven years ago) link

Remember when Sarah Palin said Paul Revere set out to warn the British? And every smart person said "no, you twit, he was warning colonists ABOUT the British?"

And then somebody else dorksplained "Actually, Revere was captured and told the British that armed militias were coming for them." And so like all these mouthbreathing Limbaughian Palinheads were like SARAH WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!!!?

That.

takin care of bismuth (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:31 (seven years ago) link

"It concerned me enough to have to notify the President," Nunes said. "It's not fair for him not to know what's in these reports" while the Obama administration does.

did you forget the part about Trump BEING PART OF THE INVESTIGATION?

i am also Tombot (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link

Well his 'get out' clause appears to be that it's not Russia-related. (Which, I know, but bear with me.)

I was not aware the Obama administration was still a going concern...

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:40 (seven years ago) link

I also dont really get how this is news? This is 100% what happened to Flynn. He was on the phone with subject of FISA warrants, his info was minimized but when they went back to review in light of the investigation it got brought into the open.

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:42 (seven years ago) link

i was not aware that 2017 was "do whatever the fuck you want to do if you are rich there are no rules" year. OH RIGHT I FORGOT THAT'S EVERY YEAR

If by Obama you mean others & by October you mean other months & by wiretapping you mean incidental collection then yes Trump's vindicated

officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:44 (seven years ago) link

I am not following any of this stuff this week. Neither is anyone besides political junkies.

@DougHenwood
Dear Dems: what is the endgame of the Russia stuff?

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:47 (seven years ago) link

a more just society built on the ashes of a corrupt and discredited political leadership?

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:49 (seven years ago) link

for starters?

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:49 (seven years ago) link

Unless something unexpected emerges (and I suppose it *could*), the Russia stuff is not a Trump Killer. Honestly, it's not.

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:49 (seven years ago) link

i'll take what i can get. 220, 221, whatever it takes.

My unpopular take: both Trump/Russia & Clinton/emails are molehills blown up into giant mountains by partisanship & the media

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 20:59 (seven years ago) link

I called him a traitor and an idiot (and I don't see how either are disputable, tbh), but I don't actually care if he gets prosecuted or not. just to be clear.

and my unpopular take is that thanks in part to these investigations Trump's bargaining posture on the Hill has dwindled to nothing such that tomorrow's ACA bill might be doomed. You don't have to care, but I don't understand what's so hard about this strategy except as a way to justify a it's-beyond-me languor.
