god damn if that "I thought it was going to be easier than Celebrity Apprentice" quote doesn't make my blood pressure shoot through the goddamn roof

the fact that a dude with dementia did the job for 8 years and is still treated like a god by half the country probably played into this misconception

That level of incompetence is deeply irritating to have to deal with in the context of one's workplace or, say, someone you hire to shingle your roof. Wrt the executive office of the USA, it's going to get somebody or a lot of somebodies fucking killed.

HUSH HUSH

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) voiced her concerns over President Barack Obama’s plans to accept $400,000 for giving a speech to Cantor Fitzgerald LP, saying money in politics is “a snake that slithers through Washington.”

The senator appeared on Sirius XM’s “Alter Family Politics” program to promote her new book, “This Fight Is Our Fight,” and she was asked about Obama’s upcoming payday.

“I was troubled by that,” she said. “The influence on dollars on [Washington] is what scares me. I think it ultimately threatens democracy … we have to think about what the tools are to fight back against it.”

Can't wait!

The same sort of accommodations will be made for the Trumps, who hired interior designer Tham Kannalikham to help them remodel the living space. They have a more formal style than their predecessors and turned down the Obamas’ offer to keep the wooden playset on the South Lawn that then-White House Chief Usher Stephen Rochon traveled to South Dakota to select for the girls in 2009.

The Trumps’ Manhattan penthouse is ornately outfitted in gold and marble. Their Mar-a-Lago Resort in Palm Beach, Fla., where the president and first lady have spent many weekends, is similarly decorated with gold leaf in the ballroom and centuries-old oak paneling in the club’s library. “The White House, by comparison,” said Barbara Res, a former Trump construction executive, “is rather tame, decorating-wise.”

“If he wants [the White House] to look like Trump Tower on the inside, we can do that, from the carpets to the floors, to making it gilded,” Rochon said.

Another smash success:

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/27/house-republicans-obamacare-repeal-votes-237685

House Republican leaders on Thursday delayed a vote on their Obamacare repeal bill until next week at the earliest, denying President Donald Trump a major legislative victory during his first 100 days in office.

Speaker Paul Ryan and his top lieutenants decided during a late-night huddle in the Capitol that they still do not have the votes to pass the stalled health-care legislation. At least 15 House Republicans remain solidly opposed to the bill, with 20 more leaning no or still undecided, according to GOP lawmakers and aides.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 April 2017 16:17 (seven years ago) link

Has he had any legislative victories in his first 100 days? Or anything at all that can be considered a victory or that indicates that he's a conscious being with control over the most powerful office in the world? He's managed to avoid choking to death on a chicken bone for an entire 100 days. I guess that's something.

You could say Gorsuch, of course, but he and the Cabinet are only confirmed by the Senate, so not both houses. I've noticed a lot of people clinging to Gorsuch as a sign of success precisely because there's nothing else to hold on to.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 April 2017 16:23 (seven years ago) link

yeah Gorsuch is it. and doesn't really count as "legislative success" imo

This is the Whac-A-Mole problem of the Trump presidency. There are so many bad things going on at once—so many minor corruptions and shady deals and strings that if tugged will surely lead to more evidence of self-dealing—that it’s impossible to concentrate on one at a time. The flagrant, prima facie corruption of the Trump administration is so transparent and so all-encompassing that, perversely, it’s impossible to get people to care about it.
