I didn't mind the actors in the Sheeran scene as much as I did the scene itself. "Gee golly gosh, when I get home from the war I'm going to finally get the chance to open that charity for abused puppies. I love my wife and I love my parents and as long as I think positive and work hard, absolutely nothing will graphically murder me next episode!" We get it! Arya is learning about how some people are good! OK already! Fuck!
― Evan, Monday, 17 July 2017 21:23 (six years ago) link
It's pretty unbelievable that she didn't murder Sheeran on sight after hearing him sing
― text text text text (voodoo chili), Monday, 17 July 2017 21:27 (six years ago) link
If there was a tradition of murdering annoying musicians in Westeros, Sigur Ros would never have left that Joffrey wedding celebration in one piece.

Jaime could get with some other woman and father more Lannisters ... he only lost a hand, right, or did I miss something?
― sarahell, Monday, 17 July 2017 21:30 (six years ago) link
God that Sheeran/soldiers bit was terribly clunky, why did they keep laughing after everything they said?

With Cersei being the ruler, and having basically eliminated the judicial branch of the government, ...

Jamie is presumably still in the Kingsguard so he has vowed never to marry. He will never father a legitimate heir (openly). Cersei isn't supposed to be that old, though, and I can't remember why she can't have more kids.
― Frederik B, Monday, 17 July 2017 21:57 (six years ago) link
I reckon she must be coming to the end of childbearing age. Lana Heady is mid 40s iirc.
― chap, Monday, 17 July 2017 21:59 (six years ago) link
I think she still can (have kids) which is why shes trying to get at Euron even though alliance wise its a completely shit match.
― officer sonny bonds, lytton pd (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 17 July 2017 22:00 (six years ago) link
Jaime's also remained faithful to his sister iirc, which is sweet of him
― albvivertine, Monday, 17 July 2017 22:03 (six years ago) link
Lena Headey is 43. But Cersei is younger in the books, though she probably has been aged up for the show, as pretty much everyone has been.
― Frederik B, Monday, 17 July 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link
Jamie is presumably still in the Kingsguard so he has vowed never to marry.
Considering his sister just burned hundreds of people to death and is now the monarch, I think she can easily release him from those vows, if she really wanted a Lannister 1000 year reich

Apologies if this has been covered here already but is there an explanation for why this (apparently) strategically critical dragon castle is just sitting there vacant all these years?

dammit xpost
xp - It became Stannis' property after he successfully defended it during Robert's Rebellion. Then Stannis converted to the lord of light and executed non-believers, eliminating a lot of Dragonstone's residents. Then Stannis went north with assumedly everyone who was left on Dragonstone. Most of them died. The rest are with Jon.
Though it is a bit odd that he didn't leave behind a custodian or two to take care of things while he was away.
― sarahell, Monday, 17 July 2017 22:42 (six years ago) link
Thank you all. Re-suspending disbelief. Does seem lazy of Lannisters though. How long ago was all this supposed to have occurred? It's a big, titty blur from here...

i thought we were trying to get past all that
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Monday, 17 July 2017 22:51 (six years ago) link
It's not supposed to be that long ago. But yeah, in the books the Lannisters lay siege to Dragonstone pretty soon after Stannis leaves.
― Frederik B, Monday, 17 July 2017 22:54 (six years ago) link
still, a bit odd that anyone could just waltz on in and see the big board.
― sarahell, Monday, 17 July 2017 22:59 (six years ago) link
That's gotta be Tom Turgoose's worst performance in a thing to date. Probably should've quit while he was ahead like yer Joffrey lad. Pete Postlethwaite's son also among Ed's feebros.
Excitement at finally recognising Jim Broadbent made up for the excessive turd montage.

It's one of those things that's definitely going to take at least four chapters to explain in the books.

I know you're talking about the acting, I think, but if this was in the script, it's spot on.
Soldiers who haven't been in combat yet laugh at everything because they're all anxious as hell.
After the baptism of fire, the ones still in one piece barely laugh at anything. It's a sign that these rookies, despite the plate mail, are about as far from Arya as you can get in terms of experiences (and privilege)
― El Tomboto, Monday, 17 July 2017 23:15 (six years ago) link
But they're nice to her because they haven't abandoned manners yet and she's younger than them and she is a woman. They're all fucking doomed.
― El Tomboto, Monday, 17 July 2017 23:18 (six years ago) link
Thats a fair point! the first bit I mean.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 18 July 2017 00:11 (six years ago) link
So they were basically meant to be innocents. It didnt come across clearly, I guess is my gripe. I just assumed they were all rubbish actors/had bad material to work with. It was the only part that really clanged.
On an aside, had not made the connection before now that Beric Dondarrion is Sherrif Dan from Fortitude.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 18 July 2017 00:13 (six years ago) link
...and on another aside, I feel like Dondarrion's constant Jesus-ing is going to be important to the story now, somehow.
He was wielding a flaming sword in the trailer, for the book people it hardly gets more signifying iirc

Always good to see Broadbent but I loved that montage.
Totally forgot about the possibility of Sansa having Ramsay's child.
Euron's gift will be Tyrion?
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 01:12 (six years ago) link
I did wonder about what/who Euron would kidnap and hand over (assuming thats what he meant). Tyrion makes sense. I'd thought Arya too, tho I dont suppose anyone knows where she is now.
