As an "outsider" I voted for Aimless, but there were many I liked here, and if I had more time I'd outline a few reasons, thoughts, head-scratches. Maybe tomorrow.

When asked to describe
What they were to my eyes,
I said they were donuts a-shrunkin'.

cant go with u too many alfbrees (Abbott), Tuesday, 2 June 2009 22:53 (fifteen years ago) link

It is my only poem, composed while wasted at the establishment in question. I remember reciting it in my best Irish accent (which is quite horrible) and there was much rejoicing. Then they threw us out.

After the vote everyone should post their poem with all the edits they wish they'd made.

Beth Parker, Friday, 12 June 2009 22:43 (fourteen years ago) link

Well, I posted a different poem to the other thread post-deadline. That would be my edit. Although possibly not. I've edited that one since. Hmm.

How sad for Poetry,
and how unlike muse-maddened
days of yore—that
one day before
the poll slams its door,
this thread, hald-dead
like a sweat-stiffened
sock from the rock-bottom
of the laundry hamper,
must be forcibly hauled
(holding my nose, appalled
at my own entry's flaws)
to the top of the pile
lest mold take hold.

Beth Parker, Sunday, 14 June 2009 16:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Went with Beth's poem, because of:

The experts advise to write what you know.
But what if you can’t? What if your one
quickly-dimming filament of decency
mandates that you hold back?

Even monsters deserve compassion.

Yes. Yass!
