Where did you get it?

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:09 (seventeen years ago) link

oOOPS. Just remembered I had some eggs a-boilin'!

Jesse, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago) link

That means you got it at Men's Wearhouse, doesn't it?

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Anyway, I got it at Lord & Taylor. It was originally $495 ( sold as seperates - $350 for the coat and $145 for the pants) but it was marked down 60% so I paid $198 (!). $215 including tax, tag, and title. It needs only minimal alterations. Actually, in a really tight pinch I could wear it just as it is.

THIS IS WHY I'M THIS IS WHY I'M HOT I'M HOT CUZ I'M FLY YOU AIN'T CUZ YOU NOT THIS IS WHY I'M THIS IS WHY I'M HOT

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:17 (seventeen years ago) link

It's charcoal, 3 button, ventless. It has pinstripes, both solid and broken. I wish I could go back for a 2nd one in another color!

Jesse, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't get your reference, John.

Jesse, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:19 (seventeen years ago) link

L&T has a great selection still. Get down and get while there's still some getting to be got.

Jesse, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:20 (seventeen years ago) link

that sounds beautiful, Jesse! I went to Lord & Taylor to try to find a dress on massive sale, but all they had was crushed velvet mid-90s looking dresses. but maybe I wasn't persistent enough.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:21 (seventeen years ago) link

It's a new hip-hop song called "This is Why I'm Hot," by someone called Mims.

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:29 (seventeen years ago) link

(I admire its logic: "I'm hot cuz I'm fly. You ain't cuz you not.")

jaymc, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I never shopped at L&T much, but from what I understand, they are pretty conservative. Which is probably why I never shopped there much.

Jesse, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:35 (seventeen years ago) link

These are its crumbum.

Jeff, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

they are conservative, but if you're getting basic dressy clothes, they can be a good place to check. i got my maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding there on sale--a sleeveless floor-length shift. i looked hot.

JuliaA, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Besides their suits, they also had a lot of FCUK sweaters and shirts. And LOTS of leather jackets. But the rest was definitly pretty conservative--pastel and neon cable knit sweaters, pleated twill pants.

Jesse, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 00:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think I've ever even been in L&T.

Hi. I have been a busy bean today. Did I miss anything?

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 00:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear Beer,

I love you soooooooooo much.

Love,
Jenny

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 02:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Jak's tap was great. I got many ups and hi-fives from Wings fans, and had good conversation with the most knowledgable Hawks fan I have met thus far. It was nice to hear someone talk about hockey rationally instead of just "RED WINGS SUCK, FAGS, LOSERS" etc.

UPDATE: After scouting the southbound Orange Line, I found one of the CSO ads at the Western, and it is currently in my room. Pictures soon!

I didn't see evidence of that.

Daley, Richard (i) 317,266 71.18 %
Brown, Dorothy 89,235 20.02 %
Walls, William 39,217 8.80 %

I think the statistic that I heard on the news last night was that 32% of voters voted yesterday. I'm pretty sure that was 32% of registered voters, not countable Chicagoans. That was an all-time low. I don't have words for how lame this is. Local elections affect our daily lives so much more than national, yet no one cares. I mean, not even 1/3.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 13:59 (seventeen years ago) link

That was all vadge thread transcription. Sorry - I didn't realize the hlines were so authentic looking.

I feel like Chicago voters feel completely disempowered to do anything about anything. Everywhere you look, you hear or see people talking about Daley is going to win no matter what, so why bother? That's how it feels, anyway.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Like, I can't even find results for my ward! I'm sure that Schiller won (because she's an incumbent and then tend to stay that way) but I'm at least curious. That's what I mean about a foregone conclusion.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoa for a second there I was confused with all of the vaginal talk.

Ok , so what you're saying is that the battered wife syndrome comparison isn't so off the mark after all, or am I just hearing that? What it looks like to me is that it's ok if he sneaks around behind our backs, consorts with unsavory individuals and treats us like dung as long as there are flowers in the flower baskets and a shiny new item on Michigan Ave. that we can show to our friends from out of town.

2/3 of Chicago voters are disempowered because they don't vote. I'm not all angry or anything, but if people don't vote, they are most certainly disempowered.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:06 (seventeen years ago) link

2/3 of Chicago voters are disempowered because they don't vote.

not to get all jaymc on you but doesn't the word "disempowered" infer that someone's power is being TAKEN from them rather than being given away freely and willingly? like they're being deprived of power rather than rejecting it? or is that just my interpretation?

also, i strained my left groin muscle running down the ramp for the el this morning. things can only get better from here, right?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I went to the trib website and the results are listed there in order

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2007/by_state/IL_Page_0227.html?SITE=ILCHTELN&SECTION=POLITICS

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I have no idea what that word means denotatively, but I know that if people surrender, they are the ones giving up. Aside from those shysters who call voters to tell them that they'll be thrown in jail if they try to vote and they have unpaid parking tickets, people seem to be surrendering all on their own. I got like 100 phone calls from my alderman trying to get me out on election day. He even offered me a ride to the polling place.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I did not vote for him.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

i actually care a lot more about the alderman race than the mayoral race because i don't live in bridgeport and it will be my alderman who is responsible for patching potholes and fixing sidewalks and making sure burned out street lights get replaced.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I was just coming here to post that I know that what I said was a self-fulfilling prophecy ("I can't make a difference so I won't vote but if I don't vote I'll never make a difference). I was also going to say that I might be projecting this sense of pointlessness and defeat because I've been reading a lot about the relationship between domestic violence and welfare, which makes the battered wife syndrome comparison not only apt but eerie.

This is also where I have to say that I didn't vote because I have yet to change my address and voter registration. I am embarrassed by this.

Kevin, I'm not even sure that disempowered is a proper word.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess I'm just saying that I can follow the thought process of someone who is feeling defeated by Chicago politics and therefore doesn't bother to vote. I mean, shit, we voted for Todd Stroger in November and then he put through devastating budget cuts! That's got me feeling pretty defeated, and I'm basing my career on not being defeated.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah BUT part of not being defeated is voting. The next time that turd Stroger is up for election, we vote for someone else. That's how it works.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Taking an active role = not being defeated. Even if you're occasionally wrong.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

The Bad Emily was working for someone running for alderman who I am pretty sure lost (I can't remember the ward) which means that she'll lock herself in the closet for the next couple months.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Yay?

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh. Helen Schiller won by a smaller margin that I expected.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm off to class. I want to apologize for being so zealous about voting, but I can't. It's something we should all do.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:35 (seventeen years ago) link

This is also where I have to say that I didn't vote because I have yet to change my address and voter registration. I am embarrassed by this.

Kevin, I'm not even sure that disempowered is a proper word.

Jenny on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 8:23 AM (7 minutes ago)

i've moved in each of the last four years, i haven't voted at my correct polling place in since 2003. i just show up at the old place and cast my vote there.

jenny, according to dictionary.com disempowered is a word but when i copied the above quote it erased the definition i had copied and i'm too lazy to go back. also, i have nothing against the use of made up words.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:35 (seventeen years ago) link

disempowered is a perfectly cromulent word.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I committed voter fraud in the last election. I just got scared to do it again for fear that the bar people would find out and come shoot me.

Jenny, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesse has shamed me. I'll do better next time, I promise.
