I would play on TV in the mid/late-70s (CFTO, I think), and I'd watch it just so I could see Celine Lomez. None of it made the least bit of sense to me (not that my knowledge of Quebec politics is any greater today than it was at 16). I only realized years later--it screened once at Lightbox--that it was one of Denys Arcand's first films.

Last year, I hung out in the ruins of Stevenson's villa in Bournemouth, where he wrote Jekyll & Hyde gripped by fevers and convulsions and nightmares. Bournemouth is this weird mix of extreme wealth and tawdry seaside cheapness; the town centre simmers with barely suppressed violence. But there's another aspect to it - of steep sandstone gullies and huge holm oaks that must be largely the same as when Stevenson was there. I was amazed at how many people were in the villa's grounds. I mean, it was me and two other people but that seems a lot for a minor(?) literary figure and a ruined old house. We were all kind of fevered ourselves: reading, pacing the floors of the old kitchen where he welcomed Henry James on cold winter evenings.
I saw the Shelley tomb as well. Weird day.

Lots of people never have, Tom! He doesn't have a Hitchcock collab or xmas favourite to keep him in the public consciousness, High Noon prob his most high profile role now and that's hardly ubiquitous.
