can you guys act out the new episodes with props and so on, and broadcast them on the net via webcam?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:01 (twenty years ago) link

it will be something to do with your old clothes, mary.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:01 (twenty years ago) link

it's sad rory's at Yale. the beautiful was that they were both in a kind of other dimension, isolated, alone and everything. it's gonna be the real life now and i don't like that

-Bruno, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:29 (twenty years ago) link

yale is not real life, not really.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:31 (twenty years ago) link

but it's not life in the middle of nowhere. That's what i liked in the show (and that's why i can even watch something like "everwood" !)

-Bruno, Tuesday, 7 October 2003 21:46 (twenty years ago) link

The Yale she's at is really weird though, there is no sense that she is at a campus at all. Besides her dorm suite and the other young people around. She hasn't even gone to a class yet, or really left the building as far as I can tell. And next week she's going to have a heart-to-heart with will he or won't he get married Dean, argh, so it isn't goodbye to Sleepy Hollow for Rory just yet. Plus -- next week she has a bob. It doesn't look so good. They're making her look younger, not older. But they played the Streets tonight.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 01:33 (twenty years ago) link

According to theonering.net, they keep working Lord of the Rings fandom into this show, which is fine by me...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 02:48 (twenty years ago) link

And Rory is the only smart kid at Yale?

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 02:59 (twenty years ago) link

I'm sure Dan would agree there's only one smart kid at Yale at most.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 03:56 (twenty years ago) link

i wonder if they'll have her make the eminently creepy walk to campus from the new haven train station.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 16:13 (twenty years ago) link

Nah, she has that car she got as a graduation gift.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

Is she making good on her promise to come home for Friday night dinners?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:37 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, Rory went to the Friday night dinner all determined to face up to Richard and Emily (Lorelai, I noticed, was wearing some great boots). But Emily was being all drama-filled and got into a fight with Richard and so Rory just kept quiet.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:42 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, but she almost ranted at grandma for sending her suite furniture (!) but she chickened out.

(X-post)

I still haven't done that Yale walk:(

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:44 (twenty years ago) link

are you in new haven mary?

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:46 (twenty years ago) link

I wish:)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 17:50 (twenty years ago) link

eleven months pass...
I just found this yr-old thread. I though Amateurist was *dissing* Gilmore Girls. Little did I know he started the definitive thread.

"Say goodbye to Daisy Miller" = classic.

Ain't That Peculiar (kenan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:58 (nineteen years ago) link

I think I may actually be in love with this woman.

Ain't That Peculiar (kenan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Ooh, ooh, I want this thread to be useful again!

Although is it still on Tuesdays? Because Canasta just shifted practice from Tuesdays to Mondays, and if so, it means I'll be able to see it for the first time in over a year!

Seriously: what's going on in the show? Rory's a sophomore now, right? I missed all of last season, and I should probably just go over to Television Without Pity and read summaries, huh?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:10 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, you'll have a lot of catching up to do, Jay. The premiere was just this past Tuesday...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:14 (nineteen years ago) link

Last season was great. Lorelei and Luke are now an item. Rory slept with the married Dean. Oh, it was action-packed.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:15 (nineteen years ago) link

I missed the premiere. had to watch Big Brother. :(

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:16 (nineteen years ago) link

i didnt have a televiosn for a couple years, but now i am hooked on this show, but i just started watching it.

(i havne read the thread) Rory slept with the married guy and got busted by her mom pretty much and so she is off to Europe with her grandma. the grandparents made the police blotter for domestic dispute, lorelai and luke kissed

this show was a secret gult if mine but now ILx has never felt better

kephm, Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:17 (nineteen years ago) link

I looked at the first season dvd set at the record store longingly the other day. but i can't justify the 50 bucks.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Lorelei and Luke are now an item.

Uh-oh, that sounds like classic jump-the-shark material.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Doesn't seem like it, so far. But it's still one of those uncertain-beginnings kind of things.

Are they going to skip summer now, or show Rory miserably travelling Europe? Usually when a show starts a new season, or with GG anyway, they've had a bit that happened over the summer, but mostly just some context so they can start the story with fall. But there's too much going on to skip this time, what with Luke/Lorelai.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:22 (nineteen years ago) link

rory will probally come home sooner than later

what season is this anyways?

kephm, Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Fifth, I believe.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:26 (nineteen years ago) link

Luke is hunky and all, but I do doubt his ability to keep in the banter department. Possibly rocky romance ahead.

I'm so rooting for Dean. That awful spoiled brat of a wife will be the death of him. He's *got* to leave her this season.

Ain't That Peculiar (kenan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:39 (nineteen years ago) link

is she still at yale? how is the show portraying yale? i haven't seen this show in two or three years. i haven't actually watched american television for two years.

amateur!!st, Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:11 (nineteen years ago) link

this is the show that had me watching television after two years! (actually the truth is the elections )

kephm, Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Being able to watch the whole first season in 5-6 episode binges was fucking awesome. I recommend the DVDs to all.

The premiere dragged a little bit though the Daisy Miller bit was pretty great.

adam (adam), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:20 (nineteen years ago) link

i think i'd feel too pervy watching this by myself.

amateur!!st, Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:27 (nineteen years ago) link

The freshman 10 that paris gained last year made her look really hot to me for the first time. That spring break episode from last year was such a hoot. Rory & Paris holed up in a Florida party motel watching Joseph Campbell! It would have been great if they had never left the room, but watching them get drunk and kissing was great too.

I'm kinda glad that the whole Jason/Richard business thing is over with, but I do kinda wonder if Lorelei's parents splitting up ISN'T some sort of jump the shark moment. It seems kinda forced. I don't believe that those two would act this way.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

watching them get drunk and kissing was great too.

Whoa, whoa, what?!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:29 (nineteen years ago) link

see my last post

amateur!!st, Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Paris kissed Rory in a packed spring break club cuz she wanted to do something wild and spring breaky and show up her hotsie totsie ex-friends from private school. (you know those two girls. i always forget their names.)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah, found it. Sorta disappointing:

While Rory is mid-sentence, wondering what else they could do, Paris grabs Rory by the face and plants one on her. They loop in someone gasping here, but nobody around Paris and Rory even glances over in their direction. Rory asks Paris if she's crazy. Paris says that Fraulein and Louisa do it. Rory says they also wear their underwear outside of their clothes. Rory walks away, telling Paris to get away from her, and adding, "You're not my type."

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:45 (nineteen years ago) link

Am, you have to give yourself permission to perv sometimes. Just let go. Just BE! And think about how impossibly perky everyone on this show's breasts are!

Ain't That Peculiar (kenan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:54 (nineteen years ago) link

And they are all older in real life than their legal-age characters anyway if that makes you feel any better. If you are worried about your feelings for Sally Struthers though, well, that i can't help you with.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:58 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd be perving on the mom anyway, so no reason(s) to feel guilty. Lauren Graham is oh so hott.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:00 (nineteen years ago) link

I was surprised to learn the other day that Alexis Bledel just turned 23.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:02 (nineteen years ago) link

believe me, i've fulfilled my perving quotas already

amateur!!st, Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Lizzie McGuire marathons?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:05 (nineteen years ago) link

goddamnit I missed the premier do you know how angry that makes me? suprnova here I come

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:29 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't think the split up of emily and richard seems forced at all.

maura (maura), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:21 (nineteen years ago) link

No? it just seemed a little forced as a device on the episodes from last season. Like they needed to do something new with them after the whole business plot-line went away. I don't think it's horrible or anything. That last episode where they show up at the inn and act huffy for 5 minutes and then leave was probably what made me feel that way. It seemed kinda tacked on.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:27 (nineteen years ago) link

The best emily moment BY FAR was the freak-out in the mall and then the drinking/listening to old records spiral. That was awesome. maybe i just like them as a team too much so i don't like this development.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:33 (nineteen years ago) link

what happened to chris eigeman's character?
