From time to time I get an idea that seems like it could be worth some money, if only I were willing to put in time, effort and money to pursue it, which I can't be arsed to do, rendering the idea worthless to me. In such a case, I figure I may as well give it away for free, so...
There should be a television program based on the obituaries. Interesting people of all descriptions are constantly dying. The obit pages of the newspaper have always been a focus of interest for the older set. Production costs would be a pittance and a well-done show would certainly draw enough of an audience to turn a profit by advertising hemorrhoid creams and other nostrums.

It's not television, but BBC radio does have a show like that called "Last Word"http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpmv
you can get it as a podcast.

Inspired by the thread "What Celebrity Do You Look Like?", it is obvious to me that there is a crying need and an insatiable pent-up demand for a website or phone app that would match up any photo portrait (with sufficient detail) to the nearest celeb photo that matched it. It would go viral in a split second and spark a virtual revolution.
This idea is yours, free, courtesy of me.

GIS has a "visually similar" search, but it doesn't work well for the purpose of matching faces. it focuses more on the color palette of the image, the placement of the head (is the image a closeup of the face or are shoulders legs part of it, etc), other elements like trees in the background, etc.
i tried it just now as a test (using a crappy iphone shot where everything is yellowish) and it came back with dozens of crappy iphone shots of other people where everything is yellowish, instead of michael cera

Biggest problem is gaining free or low-cost commercial access to a suitably large cache of celeb photos without sparking off a lot of copyright lawsuits.

I think there's room for a serious competitor to Bic in the disposable lighter market. As it is, u either pay 1.75 for a Bic or .99 for a cheapo thats difficult to strike and might break. Bic has a total monopoly on quality disposable

Something I might have done 30 years ago, when I had energy and ambition and wrote some similar things with a friend (fake review of The Joshua Tree, fake history of Glass Tiger, half-fake history of pop music in the '70s). Maybe someone's already mentioned it on one of the political threads and I missed it; I'd be willing to bet someone's at work on the idea right now.
Write the inaugural address that Trump will never give. You'd have to find just the right tone and not overdo it--sometimes I like the parody guy in The New Yorker, sometimes he brings out the sledgehammer. The basic idea would be that Trump would still be settling scores with Ted Cruz, Megan Kelly, Paul Ryan, and everyone else in his inaugural.

I have an idea for a comedy webseries called "Dad Patrol," which is about a bunch of dads who respond to situations where teenagers are doing bad stuff, but instead of arresting or dispersing them they ruin it by trying to join in. Like they show up and start hogging the coke/weed/whatever and getting way too high and waxing about the Phish shows they went to.

I just had an idea for tombstone art that would basically be like a multi-panel engraving featuring scenes from the deceased's life. Maybe birth, marriage, family, death, a couple of achievements or key moments of struggle.
