A map of where British football supporters live

There was this a little while back, but its not really what i was looking for as a) its Premier League only, and b) its based off tweet volume, which correlates more to TV appearances than support

love that london map. i did some of my growing up in barnet and can vouch for the arsenalness of that area (90% of the kids in my class were gooners). trying to figure out what that isolated block of spurs fans is in the middle of it though - finchley some place right?

like how much turf we have compared to fulham, especially as we're playing them tomorrow

Concentration of Norwich fans in Shetland is a bit of a weird one.

the first map is absolutely heinous & i cannot believe you're actually discussing it

working progress

First map is such a shame as it COULD be so good. Definitely going to work on trying to do something similar at some point. I think you would need to filter the data to exclude a) Man United or b) man united, liverpool, arsenal, chelsea - maybe only becomes obvious when you see the data come in but makes another side question, which clubs would need some kind of filtering due to behemoth status where club transcends 'natural' geographic reach enough to distort

anvil, Thursday, 23 October 2014 15:17 (nine years ago) link

eg, i think the spurious everton, qpr, norwich data wouldnt have shown up if non-premier league teams were included as ideally they should have been, Everton data I dont think would be higher than Carlisle data in Carlisle area but Man United data probably would?

how do all of the london fitba teams code politically

the final twilight of all evaluative standpoints (nakhchivan), Friday, 24 October 2014 00:29 (nine years ago) link

spurs attract yer littlejohns and yer sensitive liberal types alike
arsenal has a lot of foreign support and would score low for xenophobia i think
chelsea are all tories without exception
qpr are idk what qpr are and i don't want to risk an rtc broadside. something about leafy west london to rile him slightly
fulham don't actually have fans
west ham are an interesting one, hard to really parse. plenty of ukip, but i suspect quite a bit of wannabe socialism in there too
charlton is a family club
millwall have a lot of bless 'er hard-right types sure but they also had bob crow. not that there's really a great difference ultimately
crystal palace fans do not iirc have political beliefs or strong opinions about anything at all
leyton orient are presumably quite left-wing
brentford are presumably quite right-wing
afc wimbledon are twee fuckers, idk tho
barnet believe in sloped pitches
daggers are proper essex lads, proper ukip
dulwich hamlet believe in everyone just getting along

not getting away with that cursory bit of evasion

the final twilight of all evaluative standpoints (nakhchivan), Friday, 24 October 2014 01:50 (nine years ago) link

charlton has a large and growing game lad element - probably in practice quite socially progressive but given to sexist chants & bantz of all kinds. there's an entrenched right-wing brigade - there is at most clubs - but there's also quite a large lefty contingent. the prevailing political force is family-oriented centrism

our webforum is capable of surprisingly eloquent, sustained, source-cited & well-reasoned debate - millwall call us 'trainspotters' as we have a reputation for being the bookish twin

pecker shrivellage (imago), Friday, 24 October 2014 01:56 (nine years ago) link

the thread about ched evans for instance has been almost exemplary, with only a very few morons getting their just desserts, and some even recanting their suppositions of possible innocence

Doesn't seem that long ago that Arsenal fans were smashing up Turkish restaurants in response to losing the UEFA cup, but it was 14 years i suppose. Fanbase seems pretty representative of Islington / Hackney as a whole, so a mix of fairly traditional Labour and gentrified New Labour / Lib Dem support. Spurs probably the same, on the whole.

I can vouch for the West Ham sprawl but er 'UKIP' is optimistic to say the least

Never met a D&R supporter in my life

DG, Friday, 24 October 2014 08:28 (nine years ago) link

poor dons fans having to sneak through all that chelsea nonsense to go and watch their team play

john wahey (NickB), Friday, 24 October 2014 08:49 (nine years ago) link

Evertonians seem to be particularly vocal on Twitter though, I'm not sure why. Always a bit surprised by "Barkley" or "Lukaku" trending during an isolated kick-off (e.g. 5:30pm Sat). Which might account for the surprising top 2-3 placing in all manner of postcodes distant from CHxx/Lxx/LLxx.

WE ARE EVERYWHERE.

(We're not).

Michael Jones, Friday, 24 October 2014 08:56 (nine years ago) link

Too many surprises in that post.

Michael Jones, Friday, 24 October 2014 08:56 (nine years ago) link

bit dubious about the level of Leyton Orient support in WF tbh. think Spurs would be more accurate, or at least a Leyton Orient/Spurs mix.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 24 October 2014 09:30 (nine years ago) link
