Everett Logo Design Contest

It’s been brought to our attention that the logo that was selected as the winning design in the City’s logo competition is similar to an existing company logo. All designers who participated in the contest signed an artist agreement confirming that their submissions were original and did not infringe on any other person’s copyright or service marks. The City is looking into the issue and will respond accordingly.

It is alleged that the City of Everett logo design submitted by the plaintiff, "x420bluntZZZx", is actually a simple photocopy of National Tobacco's "Zig-Zag Man", modified in pen so that the familiar character seems to be making a peace symbol with his fingers and asking, "Got weed?" As the City of Everett has been using this supposedly original logo in good faith for over a month, incurring substantial cost in the form of printed letterhead, website placement, police cruiser decals...
