Cyberbully is really, really good
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/cyberbully

In related news, 4OD has somehow become not totally shit

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 22 January 2015 23:10 (nine years ago) link

Just bumping this cause Cyberbully was so good, kind of like what Black Mirror always tries to be but isn't

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 23 January 2015 09:15 (nine years ago) link

yeah i watched that cyberbully thing as well this week.

having a teen who experienced some pretty heavy online sh*t a few years ago, it hit a nerve.
brilliantly done as well.

and being able to use 4od/iplayer etc via the ps3 is the best thing about the ps3 for me (non-gamer)

any fans of the old mid-2000s BBC show Pulling on here (there was a small bunch of us iirc) you gotta see Catastrophe. Sharon Horgan again playing that same part she usually plays but in (slightly) more traditional, glossy rom-com vein than in Pulling. very very good indeed.

oh and does anyone know how you 'get around' the adverts in the middle of shows on 4OD/ITV player? i'm assuming that you.. just can't. massive pain in the arse during longer shows.

piscesx, Friday, 23 January 2015 12:09 (nine years ago) link

Was Babylon any good? Totally went past me at the time.

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 23 January 2015 12:20 (nine years ago) link

Tried to watched the first episode, gave up in boredom at the first ad break.

Completely missed that the new series of Spiral started on BBC4 a couple of weeks ago. Have just caught up with episode 1. Man, Laure is so fierce and great and completely fucked up at the same time.

Also the lawyer couple might be the best looking couple I've seen on TV, ever.

seandalai, Sunday, 25 January 2015 22:54 (nine years ago) link

Watched both Catastrophe ep 1 and Cyberbully tonight. Everyone on this thread OTM.

ailsa, Thursday, 29 January 2015 02:31 (nine years ago) link

i suspect i would love spiral, but too many seasons into it for me to catch up on.

looking forward to catastrophe #2 over the weekend along with wolf hall which surprised me as i normally hate period drama crap.

mark e, Thursday, 29 January 2015 10:52 (nine years ago) link

Catastrophe #2 even better than the first imo.

I thought this ep of Wolf Hall was much better paced than the first.

the bowels are not what they seem (aldo), Thursday, 29 January 2015 10:56 (nine years ago) link

was weird watching ep1 of wolf hall as there was a lot of discussion re tyndale.

i can see this from my house :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyndale_Monument

there is a plaque at the bottom with the mans story and detail of his execution. not pleasant.

so, if i get spare time, i am thinking of catching up on the whole cucumber thing as the promos do look interesting ..

mark e, Thursday, 29 January 2015 11:01 (nine years ago) link

Cucumber was surprisingly good and i thought it was genuinely funny. I wouldn't bother with the Banana & Tofu parts though.

Okay just caught up. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

pandemic, Friday, 30 January 2015 19:27 (nine years ago) link

These two Storyville episodes are superb, the one about the mayor of Datong's major renovation project is a very revealing portrait of how regional CCP power works in modern China. The mayor swaggers about, running roughshod over building contractors, simpering yes-men and hundreds of thousands of evicted citizens. it is some of the doc stuff I have seen on the beeb for years.

Is the Sound of Song documentary series worth watching?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 February 2015 15:57 (nine years ago) link

some of it's fascinating but there's no "project" to it, and its lack of curiosity has maddened me so much that i have stopped watching it

i.e. "some said the gramophone was to be feared! however they were wrong cause look how awesome records are!" like....... that's actually really interesting, too bad you are skipping over that part

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 26 February 2015 22:38 (nine years ago) link

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 27 February 2015 00:18 (nine years ago) link

The last series of House of Fools was pretty great, but the current one is outstanding.

the bowels are not what they seem (aldo), Friday, 27 February 2015 11:04 (nine years ago) link

I can never make it through the whole thing but they are very fun to dip into.

The Saboteurs on C4 is great. Tales of Norwegian daring on skis, Heisenberg and Bohr, Annah Friel as the hard-as-nails English agent.

transparent play for gifs (Tracer Hand), Monday, 13 July 2015 21:36 (eight years ago) link

The guy who plays Heisenberg such an excellent study of delusional narcissism. You just cannot wait to see how it all crashes down around his ears.

Slightly spoilered myself by reading this:

transparent play for gifs (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 23 July 2015 22:43 (eight years ago) link

Also I had no idea that 4OD, sorry I mean "All Four", had shows going back more than a decade. Garth Marenghi's Darkside was pretty uh, unexpected.

I figured saboteurs had finished after 4 episodes, but there were two left. It's also morphed into Heroes of Telemark - hadn't realised it was the same story. (But, urgh, keep calm and carry on poster on the wall in the one shot)

btw I totally knew most of the other answers too, was just shaking too much to even try to hit the buzzer at some stages. And I absolutely can't believe the one I got wrong was about red wine (anyone who knows me irl will have been finding that hilarious). My brain just blanked out and I thought she'd said black bird (merlot is from the French for blackbird, a useless fact I learned at a pub quiz once and thought might have come in handy one day. As it would have done if that had actually been the bloody question).

ledge, Monday, 2 November 2015 10:22 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, exactly. There was a bit where he looked across and you could see he was thinking 'how am i going to shake her'. still lolling at 'Freetown' being the Italian for Three Cities tho, which i realise is unfair given the stress and the stupid things it can make you do. Poor Dave.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 28 November 2015 10:19 (eight years ago) link

Thanks! Still weird! Nearly everyone else involved was proper quizzy folk, including a former Mastermind champion, an Only Connect winner, a Brain of Britain, people who won proper amounts of money on WWTBAM, etc. I felt like such a noob while everyone was sitting there discussing all the telly programmes they'd done and I was all "er, I do OK in a couple of pub quizzes in my home town and, um, that's it". They record Eggheads in the studio next door and a couple of the Eggheads popped in to chat to their quiz mates who were competing and I was all "holy shit what am I even doing here?".

for me, this years best thriller so far : trapped.

it should still all be up on the iplayer.

highly recommended.

however, make sure you put the heating on before you watch it.

mark e, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 17:46 (eight years ago) link

no, first episode was 13 Feb 2016 so that's gone now.

(i've not watched it yet, what with this and all the Walter Presents stuff that they are showing at the moment there are like 3 or so decent foreign dramas running at the same time and i find it hard to keep up)

koogs, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 17:56 (eight years ago) link

speaking of which

Deutschland 83 was ok, cold war germany, but it was focussed on 25 year olds and i had difficulty caring.
Spin 1 (FR) was like a less interesting Borgen.
Resistance (FR, last year) WWII resistance had the same problems as DE83.
Thicker than water (SE) - not seen yet

and the new BBC4
Follow The Money (DA) - not seen yet

calzino, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 18:39 (eight years ago) link

it's 2016!

series 2 of Spin (FR) was like a less interesting version of series 1. i lasted 1.5 episodes and deleted the rest unwatched.

watched all 10 hours of Trapped (IS) over the weekend and it held my attention but it didn't feel particularly icelandic to me, was nothing much to differentiate it from other scandi noir. i liked the irony of getting trapped in a freezer in iceland though. they really should put handles on the inside of those things.

Blue Eyes (SW) has started to replace Spin on friday nights. synopsis sounds identical to Spin S1E1 though 8)
