wondering if new poster x is an old poster: c or d?

like

it'd be weird not to consider it relevant in interactions with them, non?

and it totally changes the dynamic in how you'd view a new challopy kinda presence imo, some new dn hitting ilx points a lil too on the nose is yknow suspicious/delicious/curious and you'd often be doing em a favour to assume a panto act tbrr

idk when I see protestation overmuch against the phenomenon of the question even being asked I always think hmmm. but for some ppl its seemingly one of ilxs worst tendencies.

I think x is an old poster but I don't think it's c or d

Aimless, Monday, 26 January 2015 21:45 (nine years ago) link

Annoys me a bit when I don't know who people are and have been wondering where old ILXors have got to when in fact they're still there and have been all along. Only now I don't like them anymore.

its not a q of "changing ilx identities and pretending not to have done: c or d" because that is p much always d obv

local eire man (darraghmac), Monday, 26 January 2015 21:53 (nine years ago) link

Yes, I don't know why people persist in doing it too.

don't see anything wrong with this, you return to the same community and get found out tough luck imo

k3vin k., Monday, 26 January 2015 21:56 (nine years ago) link

I've considered it so my ILXmail doesn't go to an ancient Hotmail account. Don't think there's a way to change the associated email addy otherwise. But would make it clear it's still me.

ya ya

but lookit

I'm not asking is it easy or hard to spot em either

im asking why ppl think its a weird thing to ask, or wonder about

can't remember who said it on what thread before but someone basically put it thusly: if u turned up at a party or group event where everyone knew you in a wig, fake nose, what have you, its very strange behaviour to ignore and/or deny the disguise or yr identity"

I'd v much agree with this and if anybody would like to argue contra (because we've none such at the moment AFAIK and therefore it hopefully won't be construed as any type of specific query) I'd be very interested in their pov

local eire man (darraghmac), Monday, 26 January 2015 22:17 (nine years ago) link

it depends on the person and circumstance, also a message board is a message board not a party or group event

languagelessness (mattresslessness), Monday, 26 January 2015 22:19 (nine years ago) link

ya true ok if someone turned up to a message board in a wig and false nose that would be weird ok?

there are different social modes on here, difft identity mixes / characters people are displaying, i mean generally i agree with you. also there's probably just some baseline anxiety about socializing in a medium like this, and a history of people using the internet to escape irl.

why wouldn't people speculate

I guess some profess not to have any interest in who the people they're talking to are; good for them? seems natural that others would wonder tho

I appreciate the reasonable sound of "seems natural that others would wonder" and from the OP, "it'd be weird not to consider it relevant in interactions with them, non?"

In practice it's random accusations whenever an argument goes south.

Vic Perry, Monday, 26 January 2015 22:40 (nine years ago) link

When someone new starts posting, and this instant mania develops about who it is or isn't, it always reminds me of the big slab and the opening scene of 2001. I find it really, really weird.

Ya know, you can always look at when someone stopped posting and see when the new user started posting.

the ghost of markers, Thursday, 18 May 2017 23:42 (six years ago) link

You can look for similarities between two posters or a place in which a new poster might say something untrue to throw off the fact that they’re the same poster as someone else.

the pinefox, Friday, 19 May 2017 10:16 (six years ago) link

any excuse really

Mirror in February

The day dawns, with scent of must and rain,
Of opened soil, dark trees, dry bedroom air.
Under the fading lamp, half dressed -- my brain
Idling on some compulsive fantasy --
I towel my shaven jaw and stop, and stare,
Riveted by a dark exhausted eye,
A dry downturning mouth.
It seems again that it is time to learn,
In this untiring, crumbling place of growth
To which, for the time being, I return.
Now plainly in the mirror of my soul
I read that I have looked my last on youth
And little more; for they are not made whole
That reach the age of Christ.

Below my window the wakening trees,
Hacked clean for better bearing, stand defaced
Suffering their brute necessities;
And how should the flesh not quail, that span for span
Is mutilated more? In slow distaste
I fold my towel with what grace I can,
Not young, and not renewable, but man.
