Old injured lab who gets wheeled around on a flatbed cart. Owner seems like a good guy but gives off a little bit of an emotionally wounded quality that dovetails with the dog's condition and his pulling around the dog.

Cuthbert, a Scottie; George, a black-and-red/merle Dachshund; Emma, an ancient shih tzu owned by the woman who runs the pub in the square; Dany, a large border terrier; Uk, a bull mastiff owned by a Moldovan guy (apparently 'Uk' means 'hero' in his language); a puggle called Elvis Fucking Christ; Freud the blue whippet and Millie the blue greyhound; Rapido the Dalmatian; Lola the chocolate poodle; Pixie the hermaphrodite lhasa/Yorkie cross; Columbo the staffie/bull cross puppy; Bessie the Lurcher; Grace the blue staffie (nice to people, unpredictable with other dogs); Jack the Jack Russell (horrible mean dog), Pippa the black spitz, Millie, the fattest Bichon in London; Cookies, the Weimeraner; Rousseau and Bellini, male and female golden labs; Max and Gertie, the two out of seven local French bulldogs I can name. There are also a bunch of ratty-looking Jack Russell crosses and about five almost-identical Staffies I don't pay that much attention to...

There's a Dalmation that I often see when out for a walk near the office at lunch that I'm convinced is called Barry.

Huge numbers of bull terriers.

A little sausage dog in a little jacket.

Two absolutely tiny chihuahuas being walked by a giant of a man in a high-vis gilet.

A boisterous pair of twin Scotties.

did you find out what happened in the dog gbh episode you posted about the other week

no love deb weep (nakhchivan), Monday, 23 February 2015 23:43 (nine years ago) link

Haven't seen the dog outside since. The aggrieved owner hung around for about half an hour afterwards but left eventually. I think the police were called, or were threatened to be called, but I didn't see any arrive.

there are lots of largish unphotogenic dogs here of types i dont know, the sort of dogs who spend most of their lives in the back of a 2004 mercedes e class estate and who can barely summon the energy to chase pigeons

apart from normcore staples like alsatians and terriers, the only dog breeds i know by name are those with internet reputations

Some sort of Staffie with one eye. Can't think of any others. Poor show really.

brown part-Staffie looking mongrel that the Polish guy has to keep whistling away cos it looks like it really wants to bite me

whitish part-Staffie looking mongrel that really wants a cuddle and a pat on the head even while the old dude walking him is sheepishly trying to hold him back

there are lots of akitas in my neighbourhood now, some of them are like grizzly bears when they are fully grown. I saw this skinny kid with one and he barely had the strength to rein it in while it was fixing to chew my labby. An idiot across the road from me had one and he brought it up with that fierce, brutal attitude that macho knobheads do and it ended up getting put down after savaging his granddad, who suffered a heart attack during the attack. Incidentally this dude used to be a screw at Wakefield Prison and he got sacked for a violent assault on an inmate. I wouldn't condemn any breed of dog, but this fashion of shitty people tending towards powerful, potentially dangerous dogs is really not good.

hopefully no c4 exec is reading this so the world is spared neighbourhood dog inventory swap and the spectacle of rousseau and bellini being given the pavlov treatment with hmp issue tasers while feral akitas tear apart pigeons in london garden squares

light brown maybe-staffie whose owners let it run free in the street all day. he enjoys facing down approaching cars and has a large pinkish lesion in the centre of his forehead which at first glance looks like escaping brain matter

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 11:21 (nine years ago) link

has this akita trend not happened in London? I guess it wouldn't be a very practical type for travelling on a jam packed tube with.

this is probably my favourite thread of 2015 sewn up

maryon park has an exceptional range of dogs, from overfed rotties to riley the big chocolate lab, from the four small white terriers who follow their two elderly female owners most dutifully to that one prick-eared staff cross whose owner kicks a mauled football around to it in the very, very early hours of the morning, from this big fucking dalmatian i've started seeing to the hyperactive mini pinschers i'm not sure live here any more...then there's kizzy, the park-keeper's female blue staff, an adorable character with whom one-time maryon park denizen oppen the ridgeback/staff/fox-terrier cross has attempted carnal congress...

this would probably be more indicative of the sort of suburbs where u might find grizzly sized dogs in london (and the sort of reason u would find them for sale - shes getting a flat)

Saw a guy walking what I initially thought was a lamb but, on closer inspection, turned out to be an adorable Bedlington terrier.

Also saw a stately old irish wolfhound who looked like he was largely uninterested in the whole running about in the park thing these days.

took my two for a run this morning. saw a woman coming towards us with her hood up walking a staffy cross. as we approached she took a wooly hat out of her coat pocket and put it on over the whole of her face from her chin to her forehead. my dogs didn't bat an eyelid at no-face staffy lady. they did sniff the dog's bum though. i averted my eyes from both, it seemed like the correct thing to do

on friday, a female jack russell bit me on the arse as i ran through the woods to work

The last dog that took a chunk out of Kenny Whippetlurcher was a ratty little Jack Russell cross. I hate them. They also stink.

New Bloomsbury dogs! The dachshunds living in the Gordon Gekko pleasure palace over the road now number four: two new pups, an older male, and a disabled older male with rear wheels fitted to compensate for kiboshed hind legs. There's a sleek-coated chocolate Basset/Shar-pei cross whose tail swerves left, and an energetic cocker-springer cross. One neighbour, profoundly paralysed and in a wheelchair because some thugs went queer-bashing the day before he was meant to start a fashion course at CSM, but still handsome and hilariously waspish, owns an evil little pug whose initial investigations always turn loud and aggressive. "She's such a little bitch," her owner giggles, every time she kicks off.

A loud ex-forces laddie walks a very imposing Akita he claims was with him in combat, which makes sense because the dog is precision-trained to a huge amount of hand signals and owner-dude seems like an adrenaline junkie partially deafened by proximity to explosives. He was in raptures over my whippetlurcher, who is a pale blue fawn brindle and the oldest dog in the neighbourhood, and parked his Akita a few metres away to come and pay homage. Every salt-of-the-earth dude within a one-mile radius has said 'awww, you look like an auld fella' to Ken, who isn't fussed about meeting people, and ex-forces laddie was no different. As he let Ken sniff his hand, he helpfully explained, "I'm not gonna go straight in and stroke him because to him, I'm dripping in testosterone, and testosterone equals danger!"

Ken in the square:

Tiny dog in the corner yard that barks constantly. When walking by the other day, it ran up to my dog and me and started barking its head off. My dog stared dead in its eyes, peed on the dog's fence, and walked away. I think this is what a doggy mic-drop is.

too many dogs crapping in the park.
a bunch of chihuahuas that bark every time you go past the flat on the corner.

Dogs i've never seen that are always barking as I walk through the estate on the far side of the woods to get to the courses I'm doing in the community centre over there.

I had a lol conversation with an Akita owner in the park the other day. Just when he had put me at ease that his Akita bitch wasn't going to tear my defenceless Labrador to pieces and almost convinced me that my prejudices against this breed are ill founded, he added this small caveat: "She can turn sometimes, so just be a bit careful".
