DJP in Chicago March 9 - 13

Hey folks,

Gonna be in Chicago for work next week; currently looking for:

- heads-up on anything cool happening in the city that's accessible by train/reasonable taxi
- restaurant recommendations that won't make expense reports a massive PITA
- invitations to eat/drink/be merry
- $1 million dollars in unmarked small denomination bills

About that latter bit. (Not that I'm Chicago. Or have the money.)

I recommend going to Dusek's for dinner. Or Longman & Eagle. Or Publican. All can be done as cheaply or big ticket as you want, really. And all are delicious, as long as (especially if) you eat meat. If you're looking for cheaper stuff, let me know! But for drinks and new Chinese, especially on a weeknight, the new Lost Lake tiki bar is awesome. I also highly recommend Analogue, which has great drinks and super more or less New Orleans food, including incredible fried chicken.

I'm flying out in the afternoon on the 13th. ;_;

Definitely not looking for cheap $2 meals but OTOH I also can't do $100/head Graham Elliot tastings and expense them; all these suggestions sound great so far.

Kai Zan is BYO Asian-Latin fusion (!) and also has an awesome budget omakase menu.

I am certain you meant BYOB because I can't imagine going into a restaurant and having them be like "here's your table, I hope you brought food with you"

Sadly no. I kind of wish we were but OTOH I'm not sure my wife would deal better with caring for two 1-year-olds out of a hotel room while I'm in meetings than she can at home with a friend staying with her to help out.

I didn't figure you would but I had to ask. USA Playdate FAP will have to wait for another day.

That's not a great week for us for evening gatherings because I've got two work-related events already happening, but are you available for lunch at all?

Probably? Depends on what meetings people throw onto my calendar once I get there (I know of two that are yet to be scheduled). Right now it looks like Wednesday afternoon is completely open, which of course means that's going to be the day everyone wants to meet all day.

I'll definitely be in the office on Wednesday, and will plan to come in Tuesday and Thursday, too, so if you're up for lunch, holler when you know your schedule and we'll meet somewhere near where you're working. gr8080 and NA work downtown, and I can usually talk Jesse into lunch if he's not too busy.
