Allegiance gets pretty intense! The most intense episode was directed by Bronwen Hughes. Remember her? Anyway, this show got cancelled on regular t.v. and now is just online. Hope Davis -vs- Giancarlo Esposito is my kinda grudge match.

I promise I won't talk about The Last Ship on this thread.

also, i have watched too many episodes of Blue Bloods.

also, i might start watching MI-5.

scott seward, Thursday, 30 April 2015 19:47 (eight years ago) link

started watching The 100 with Rufus and we liked it okay, but then we watched it with Cyrus and that was a mistake because Cyrus got scared and i had to hang out with him in bed until he fell asleep. so, i'll watch that with Rufus when Cyrus is watching Minecraft videos in the other room or something.

started watching Longmire again too. Season 2. i can't remember why i stopped watching it. and now season 3 is up on Netflix too. there are some pretty good season 2 episodes. i'm mostly in it for the Kara Thraceness though. illegal rodeo episode might be my fave so far in season 2.

scott seward, Monday, 4 May 2015 20:17 (eight years ago) link

started watching Rectify on Neflix. we'll see...(though i guess it's more of a drama based on a crime...)

scott seward, Friday, 15 May 2015 03:25 (eight years ago) link

longmire owns, dude is so frowny and squinty and the old school broncos are cool

adam, Friday, 15 May 2015 03:29 (eight years ago) link

i do cringe when i think of walt and kara thrace getting together though. they just seem like such a father/daughter relationship. season three has such great moments. this being just one of them:

scott seward, Friday, 15 May 2015 03:34 (eight years ago) link

Les Témoins (on Netflix USA as Witnesses) is pretty decent three episodes in.

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Friday, 15 May 2015 07:36 (eight years ago) link

also, i might start watching MI-5.

― scott seward, Thursday, April 30, 2015 12:47 PM (2 weeks ago)

It's pretty solid! I've seen the whole thing twice. I keep going back and forth with myself about whether the first few seasons are better than the next 4 or vice versa.

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Friday, 15 May 2015 07:37 (eight years ago) link

Another good one is Spiral (it's a French crime show) -- it's on Netflix

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Friday, 15 May 2015 07:38 (eight years ago) link

Yes, the last season was amazing / heartbreaking.

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Friday, 15 May 2015 07:40 (eight years ago) link

lol Rectify is basically the least action/adventure TV show of all time

Number None, Friday, 15 May 2015 11:43 (eight years ago) link

well, it does kinda fit the "crime" part of my thread title. i like it so far! it's interesting and i don't really know where it's going which i like. i will check out Spiral. and MI-5 is on the back burner for now but i will get to it eventually.

scott seward, Saturday, 16 May 2015 15:16 (eight years ago) link

i like that i really don't recognize too many people in Rectify.

scott seward, Saturday, 16 May 2015 15:17 (eight years ago) link

okay maybe it doesn't belong here. is there a Rectify thread? i really like it. and the lead is the heir to aidan quinn's throne.

started watching Tyrant last night! which also probably doesn't belong here. but there is action and intrigue. and it makes the Middle East seem really scary. we always need more shows that do that. i'm rooting for the rebels. first season is streaming on HULU if you haven't seen it.

scott seward, Monday, 18 May 2015 15:25 (eight years ago) link

okay, there was a Rectify thread but it's sad because nobody has the Sundance channel. but now it's on Netflix and all you people should watch it. it's really good! and the sister is the heir to Jami Gertz!

scott seward, Monday, 18 May 2015 15:28 (eight years ago) link

Dunno how much more of the tortured Tyrant bearded brother I can take, seems like such a cartoon wolf, and suspect it of edging toward Breaking Bad. After so many recent finales, resting up for return of The Swarm (jeez, is The Bridge coming back too?? One spacey show).

dow, Monday, 18 May 2015 15:31 (eight years ago) link

watching the second season of Revolution. SOMEBODY has too. plus, my beloved Juliet from Lost....i'm only human! sadly, i think she's had work done...

Revolution is all about last minute saves. i save you and now you save me and now you save me once more. and now that Allegiance is done for the moment i needed more evil Giancarlo Esposito. though he's slightly less evil in the 2nd season of this show.

scott seward, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 14:20 (eight years ago) link

haven't gone back to Tyrant though. it'll keep...

scott seward, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 14:20 (eight years ago) link

i couldn't watch the Transporter show on Netflix. i got about 15 minutes in. which says a lot, because my standards are pretty low.

scott seward, Monday, 1 June 2015 13:23 (eight years ago) link

now that i finished longmire i am picking justified back up, but timothy olyphant looks like an asshole in his little hat compared to walt's craggy majesty

adam, Monday, 1 June 2015 14:24 (eight years ago) link

that show on Netflix now about everyone in a town under the age of 22 dying is really dumb. i think it might be too canadian for me. Between. is what it's called. couldn't even make it through one episode. to make matters worse i changed it to a british crime movie that was also really bad. the governor from the walking dead was in it in his naturual britishness.

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:38 (eight years ago) link

to be fair, i started watching The Prince with bruce willis and jason patric and it was even worse. made it about 20 minutes in. so weird to watch 2015-era straight to video movies. like they should come on VHS or something. and i feel bad that john cusack has to make a steady stream of terrible b-movies to pay the bills.

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:40 (eight years ago) link

you know you're in trouble when the movie company you are working for is an investment group....

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:41 (eight years ago) link

john cusack has had a really puzzling career

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:41 (eight years ago) link

maybe he's got big gambling debts...

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 14:56 (eight years ago) link

kinda surprised he hasn't found himself a nice lucrative t.v. gig by now. you'd think he gets lots of offers from t.v. people.

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 15:02 (eight years ago) link

i would totally watch him as a morally ambiguous lawyer who plays by his own rules and who ends up having a heart underneath his brusque exterior.

scott seward, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 15:04 (eight years ago) link

two weeks pass...

wanted to watch Wayward Pines but got scared away after about ten minutes but i'll go back to it i think cuz i know how bonkers and sci-fi it gets. a little scared of the m. night-ness of it all.

started watching American Odyssey which is kinda dumb and totally fearmongers but the U.S. is pretty evil in it, so, it's entertaining enough.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 June 2015 11:56 (eight years ago) link

enjoying The Strain so far! del Torro/cuse thing.

scott seward, Friday, 19 June 2015 00:43 (eight years ago) link

it gets real real bad man (the strain)

first 8 eps are p solid dumb fun though

definite parallels between Dany and Rachel Dolezal (slothroprhymes), Friday, 19 June 2015 01:32 (eight years ago) link

Looking fwd to return of Strain, still dumb fun, don't know what would make it solid, gas, or liquid d.f. So sad that duhhhhhhhTheBridge got cancelled! Considering where they left off, would be such a challenge to take it any further, but just, you know, rattle that spatula around inside your branes one more time, writers, and see what comes out. Also looking for return of the Last Ship.
About to watch rerun of Elementary because Lucy Liu (duh). Also can work when they merge recurring themes of Sherlock's traumatized post(?)-heroin, post Moriarty sort-of life(turned out the dead gf he lived to avenge actually was her "killer"--Irene Adler/Professor *Janie* Moriarity) with crimes in the workaday foreground, rather than just treating the latter as pro forma. But mainly Lucy Liu.

dow, Friday, 19 June 2015 01:51 (eight years ago) link

Also Cyber CSI is educational, at least for me, who doesn't know shit about computer security.

dow, Friday, 19 June 2015 01:54 (eight years ago) link

okay, don, i'm pretty sure we are the only two people around looking forward to the last ship.

martin keamy! the scary soldier on Lost. i couldn't place the russian ratcatcher on The Strain.

scott seward, Friday, 19 June 2015 02:00 (eight years ago) link

i'm gonna miss Revolution. i'm probably alone there.

scott seward, Friday, 19 June 2015 02:05 (eight years ago) link

i really like corey stoll on the strain! i almost didn't recognize him either.

scott seward, Friday, 19 June 2015 02:10 (eight years ago) link

Hulu is gonna provide Showtime starting in July. FYI. so, i will be able to see Homeland and Liev Schreiber show.

i liked the first season of The Strain. as far as implausible scenarios go, that show is hard to beat. will watch season two for sure.

scott seward, Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:19 (eight years ago) link

started watching Matt Dillon creepy show featuring wife-beating rap mogul terrence howard as sheriff. an M. Night joint. based on books i've never heard of. i fell asleep though, so, i'll have to watch the first episode again.

scott seward, Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:21 (eight years ago) link

they're doing a 2nd season of The Strain?! Awesome!

sarahell, Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:43 (eight years ago) link

I've been watching this Columbian docudrama on Netflix about the Cali cartel. The acting is uneven, but it's pretty good

sarahell, Thursday, 25 June 2015 20:46 (eight years ago) link

i'll check it out. 80 episodes!

scott seward, Friday, 26 June 2015 04:04 (eight years ago) link

Interesting that sci-fi shows are listed but not in the thread title - is that a backdrop rather than a genre these days?

Anyway, my favour for a TV show appears to be the kiss of death: I loved crypto-Dredd future cop show Almost Human, and it disappeared after one series, and Resurrection (which is more horror, I suppose?) only made it to two - though the first was a perfectly formed 8 episodes of "wait, what is going on?" that several times does the thing I love where after a scene resolves, the next scene follows the 'wrong' character instead.

Oh I suppose Lost Girl got to 5 series, but I prefer pretending it ended a few back.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 26 June 2015 15:40 (eight years ago) link

i figured nobody would really care if i added sci-fi on here. they are usually action-packed anyway....

scott seward, Friday, 26 June 2015 15:41 (eight years ago) link

was thinking of watching resurrection.

really enjoying Wayward Pines! i won't spoiler here. if you have hulu you should watch it. don't read about it though. cuz it gets weird and its more fun if you don't know what the hell is gonna happen.

scott seward, Friday, 26 June 2015 15:44 (eight years ago) link

Sure, it's not like we're discussing TNG :)

I am really looking forward to that in whatever form I eventually see it (torrent / fiddled Hulu / DVD / eventual cable) - there's enough stuff that comes in naturally to my TiVo that I am terrible at actively seeking out other stuff.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 26 June 2015 15:49 (eight years ago) link

I tried Mr. Robot via Hulu, but won't be coming back for more after the premiere. It's kinda Matrix meets Parallax View, and the writing w/r/t the hacker "hero" is better than you'd get on, say, CSI: Cyber, but he's played by this bug-eyed freak I can't stare at for 13 hours, and also the show has Christian Slater in it. Christian Slater is a deal-breaker.

WATCH LINE OF DUTY ON HULU.
IT IS GOOD.
THEY DO THE REST.

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:05 (eight years ago) link

hmmm, i could give it a try. i tried New Tricks and didn't get very far. the humor was definitely spelled humour.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:08 (eight years ago) link

there is not really any humor in line of duty. it is real good. 2nd season maybe even better than first. i recommend taking notes cuz things get complicated.

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:09 (eight years ago) link

Line of Duty >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> New Tricks.

If you get Happy Valley over there, watch that too.

ailsa, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:09 (eight years ago) link

happy valley is on netflix and i enjoyed it. also broadchurch.

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:13 (eight years ago) link

lotsa U.K. shows i''ve never seen on hulu. Vera! George Gently! Kingdom! Injustice! Blue Murder! A Touch Of Frost! and the list goes on and on.

i did love The Wrong Mans.

kinda want to watch the Thorne shows cuz i do love the Governor from the Walking Dead. MY personal choice to play Jack Reacher if they ever make a REAL Jack Reacher movie. or a Jack Reacher t.v. show for that matter. that would be awesome. Netflix-only Reacher series starring Britain's most convincing American.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:14 (eight years ago) link

soooooooooooooooooo Reacher! plus, he's like eight feet tall!

i am reading the reacher book that turned into the movie. i am almost done.
"everyday is a winding road" -- really, jack?!

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:18 (eight years ago) link

Oh, Morrissey as Reacher would be good. The Thorne adaptations were decent. I loved The Wrong Mans as well, but don't think it went down too well in general because James Corden.

ailsa, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:19 (eight years ago) link

who wrote the thorne stuff?

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:19 (eight years ago) link

also scott did you watch Bosch? i liked bosch.

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:21 (eight years ago) link

bosch was good tho i didn't think the plot was very interesting

adam, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:23 (eight years ago) link

i can't get bosch on hulu or netflix. i've been reading the books though.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:24 (eight years ago) link

oh, i thought bosch was hulu but maybe it is amazon prime, i have one bosch book but i haven't gotten around to it.

ian, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:27 (eight years ago) link

the bosch books are good but LA as a locale is kinda....eh, you know, Hollywood and all that. been done to death plus they are the scariest cops in real life, so, hard to sympathize a lot. but he's a good plot-twister.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:29 (eight years ago) link

i like the Sandford books a lot more.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:30 (eight years ago) link

digging the C.J. Box books i've been reading a lot too. those would make a good series a la Longmire. a game warden! in wyoming! but they are very addictive and entertaining. lots of elk talk.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:31 (eight years ago) link

Thorne books are by Mark Billingham

ailsa, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:31 (eight years ago) link

Virgil Flowers show would be awesome. speaking of Sandford.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 00:32 (eight years ago) link

I've been reading Sandford lately too. Since I'm unlikely to ever actually move to Minneapolis (as was the plan for a while).

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Saturday, 27 June 2015 01:04 (eight years ago) link

Stitchers on ABC Family is really surprisingly good. the premise is a little wonky -- a gov't agency solves crimes by accessing dead people's memories (hi iZombie) using a weird system where people lay in a pool of water (hi Minority Report) -- but the cast and the writing are really solid.

some dude, Saturday, 27 June 2015 01:38 (eight years ago) link

oh, i thought bosch was hulu but maybe it is amazon prime, i have one bosch book but i haven't gotten around to it.

yeah it was Amazon Prime. I liked it too! Marlo Stanfield guy playing a sympathetic character

sarahell, Saturday, 27 June 2015 02:03 (eight years ago) link

full circle since i started this thread: began by talking about Allegiance starring Hope Davis and who shows up midway through Wayward Pines...you guessed it, next stop wonderland herself.

i would so legally marry matt dillon. can't believe i have to wait until july 3 to see the next episode of wayward pines. one day after broadcast on hulu.

scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2015 18:04 (eight years ago) link

i have the house to myself this week, and i'm finally getting back to Hell On Wheels. 4 seasons up on Netflix and i plan to watch all of them. it's very entertaining. i have no idea how historically accurate it is and i plan to keep it that way. also, thanks to this show and Longmire, i have now seen two modern television dramas that featured a native american bondage piercing sun vision ceremony. thumbs up, hollyweird!

http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/28300000/The-Swede-Christopher-Heyerdahl-in-Episode-10-hell-on-wheels-28330755-397-595.jpg

i have to say, the first episode of season 3 of Hell On Wheels is probably my favorite episode so far and i can't remember the last time i watched a modern show like that where it just got SO good that far in. kudos to the HOW production team. that was seriously such a cool episode. such a good show. there is a thread for it on here but its three posts long, so, i'll just say that here. Mr. Swede! jesus, when has there been a character like that on t.v.? holy toledo.
