It'd have been interesting to see Charles Dance reading for Stannis and vice versa I think
I think the scene where Tywin lectures Jaime while skinning the deer is one of my favourite scenes in television tbh!

Hey, wither Podrick?
I didn't think anything of him. He has one expression on his face the entire series. The only interesting thing about him/his character is the whole "he's good at fucking" note
I forgot to list Ros but obv she was amazing, love the post-coital scene with her and Pycelle

this episode was fan service + daddy issues. Kinda feel like the characters that don't gaf about their dads or have moved past that are the best adjusted
― sarahell, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 19:49 (five years ago) link
oh wait, also conflating next episode's preview in there -- looks like we get another daddy issue scene at least

Also Sansa was the best thing about this episode, followed by the Grey Worm/Missandei glance when riding past the assembled white ppl

I was rooting for Littlefinger :( More in the books than on the show, though

this episode was fan service
Awful fan service (for awful fans) as hardly anything of note happened and the big bad was absent once again. Weren't there five (maybe longer) episodes initially planned for s8? Felt like they padded the first one out into two.

I read an astonishing theory about how the show could pan out, on /r/asoiaf yesterday.
I can link to it here if anyones interested but its so otm it may feel spoilery.

if that theory holds, and with valonqar meaning "little brother", i have two questions -- just whose little brother is it, and how long does one have to be dead before the night king can no longer raise you.

The valonqar part of the witch's prophesy didn't actually appear in the series, only in the books. In the series she just prophesied the deaths of Cersei's children, not her death. So it'd be a bit weird if the writers would bring that up all of sudden, several seasons after the prophesy scene happened. "Guess what, the witch prophesied other things too, but we cut those out back then..."

According to a 17-minute behind-the-scenes video that HBO released on YouTube, Lucas was hanging out on the Game of Thrones set while director David Nutter was directing the season 8 premiere. The former Star Wars director was sitting by Nutter’s side while they were filming a scene with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). Nutter asked Lucas to speak to Harington and Clarke about their performances.
So the scene we've been unfavorably comparing to an awkward couple hanging out in a secluded area in a Star Wars movie.. might have had some direction from George Lucas?
This is amazingly funny

The Night King always has an expression on his face that reminds me of Linus Van Pelt
I've been rewatching etc. etc. and the serious is AIR TIGHT, there are some serious missteps but largely it is kind of amazing that 80 hours of televisions or whatever could be built upon two enormous secrets-- i.e. Robert's rebellion was built on a lie, one of the boringest main characters is a product of that lie, and they've left hints and moments back to the beginning that verify that this is of course the case
what is not air tight is arya threatening sansa in ep 7 to mislead the viewers toward the efficacy of littlefinger, damn this was a bad writing decision
Very excited for the next seven episodes to be perfectly frank

only 5 more episodes, not 7! and yes, the arya/sansa thing from last season was terrible writing - only makes sense insofar as fooling viewers

the misdirection was bad, but the littlefinger comeuppance was delicious
his entire shtick was fully dependent on no one ever comparing notes
― mh, Sunday, 21 April 2019 20:33 (five years ago) link
But mostly in the show, his shtick is a lot better in the books. It was bad writing for several seasons.

I've decided the most in-character thing for this show to do is kill off Jon Snow tonight or next week
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 21 April 2019 21:16 (five years ago) link
The order-of-deaths seems to be less deliberately disorienting as the series has gone on. I don't think I've been surprised by a death in a while
I was just reading the Vegas pools on the odds of "who's gonna die" and "what's gonna happen" and it looks like anybody who believes the "Night King Is Not Stupid" theory could stand to make some $, as the prospect of Cersei going undead is higher (if you believe that theory) than Vegas odds would predict

i've decided the most in-character thing for this show to do is kill off Jon Snow tonight or next week
it would have been in seasons 1-3 character, and glimpses of the show since. but not so much in character for the show's current state of Game of the Thrones Day at the Ballpark in all 30 baseball stadiums
