I like mountains OK but I need open water to survive (emotionally). I just need to know it's nearby and go and look at it occasionally. So coasts are it for me. It took me a CRAZY-ASS number of years to realize that NYC had the Rockaways and I could get to the beach without leaving the city. Before that I was taking the train all the way to Asbury Park!

in Miami Beach on Sunday, i walked to the beach entrance, looked at the surf from about 50 yards, then did a 180 and went to a bar.

the best remaining thing about NYC is you don't have to know your neighbors.
