I guess Manchester by a bit over Moonlight; liked American Honey a bit more than either.

if you've seen 6+ of these, you are wasting your life

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 16 February 2017 12:46 (seven years ago) link

i've seen two, of which the better is HELL OR HIGH WATER

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 16 February 2017 12:46 (seven years ago) link

I've seen the Lonergan. Want to see HOHW and Moonlight too tho, and not just coz of Soto

imago, Thursday, 16 February 2017 12:48 (seven years ago) link

I've measured out my life with coke spoons.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 February 2017 12:51 (seven years ago) link

Moonlight just over Manchester, HOHW in a solid third place.

devvvine, Thursday, 16 February 2017 12:55 (seven years ago) link

I've seen Manchester, HoHW, Arrival and Moonlight, all solid films, but so different that chosing a best would be difficult. I guess Moonlight is the most unique and heartfelt of the lot. It won't win the oscar.

chap, Thursday, 16 February 2017 13:00 (seven years ago) link

I've only seen Moonlight so Moonlight but I won't shit up the poll with my uninformed vote.

Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. Iffy? Can't say. Doubtful? Maybe. (Old Lunch), Thursday, 16 February 2017 13:12 (seven years ago) link

I have seen exactly 6

honestly they've had way worse sets of nominees

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:07 (seven years ago) link

I've seen two, and will see a third one this monday, and it does sorta feel as if I've wasted my life.

Jackie should have been here.

Frederik B, Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:08 (seven years ago) link

Jackie not being here is the one silver lining.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:11 (seven years ago) link

I watched three of them (Fences/Lion/MbtS) in basically the same sitting, that makes the time expenditure seem less grievous somehow

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:14 (seven years ago) link

Moonlight, followed by Fences, followed by Arrival/Manchester. At least those are my choices. I feel like la la land will probably win because boring whites

It's one of the least offensive clusters of nominees we've seen.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:23 (seven years ago) link

when LLL wins we can return to griping though

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:26 (seven years ago) link

"Moonlight" is so overrated. A tasteful kind of victim narrative.

pointless rock guitar (Michael B), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:30 (seven years ago) link

"pointless rock guitar" IS a phrase that Armond White would use.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:32 (seven years ago) link

It's an enormous pain in the ass for me to try to find and link to them right now (because ILX is technically blocked at my work) but I've also created a handful of polls that had 'Academy Award' rather than 'Oscar' in the title.

Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. Iffy? Can't say. Doubtful? Maybe. (Old Lunch), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:33 (seven years ago) link

(Aaaand I'm pretty sure that link is fucked up because of the circuitous method I have to use to view the site at work...)
