The committee has subpoenaed the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency for information about what is called “unmasking.” Republicans on the committee have been pushing for a thorough investigation of how the names of Trump campaign officials became exposed in classified intelligence reports based off intelligence community intercepts.

Those subpoenas seek information on requests made by former national security adviser Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan and former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power for names to be unmasked in classified material.

Barron Trump saw a very long necktie on a heap of expired deli meat in a dumpster. He thought it was his dad & his little heart is breaking

hmm, what else does al franken have on his plate that's possibly even bigger than the question of whether to share a stage with kathy griffin in July? i guess there are the trump investigations with the senate judiciary committee, but...nah, kathy griffin should definitely be his priority

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 21:47 (six years ago) link

This whole thing is so dumb. I mean yeah it's in bad taste and I agree she should've been fired for it but this whole "will the liberal violence ever end!" thing is so irritating, especially when white supremacists emboldened by Trump are literally murdering people on the street right now. I thought this was the party of "fuck you and your political correctness", the party who gleefully voted in a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women? Are you really so fragile to be trigged by Kathy Griffin, of all people?

frogbs, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 22:05 (six years ago) link

of course not, they just see an opportunity to attack the enemy and get some more of those sweet sweeeeeet librul tears

a 'free speech' rally in defense of someone who murdered innocent people in cold blood is going to end well

these free speech rallies are just straight up trolling/librul tear gathering exercises

that being said I agree w the tactic of countering them with (hopefully larger) anti-fascist rallies

Social Media Forensics
-
The depoliticization of violence

In direct proportion to how the American understanding of political activity has been impoverished—shrunk down to a trip to the ballot box that a pitiful fraction of Americans will make once every four years—our investment of political significance into comparative trivialities has mushroomed to the point where even an act of horrifying, self-evident violence must be “explained” or “understood” by documenting where a killer clicked “like” on Facebook. Meanwhile, a pair of women remain terrorized, and two of three bystanders who attempted to stop a hate crime are dead.

Bio-Digital Jezza (kingfish), Wednesday, 31 May 2017 23:19 (six years ago) link

librul tears is one thing but publicly supporting an insane murderer is nagl (trenchant social commentary)

David Axelrod's perfectly timed deadpan always makes me laugh (talking about Spicer and "covfefe"):

"He goes out there and says things that are laughable, and...people laugh."

I can't reload this whole thread--I'm sure that's been posted today. I really enjoy dry, morbid humour; hate crudity, hate gross. Kathy Griffin's thing just isn't funny. I'm far from outraged or anything, just wish she blew up her career over a better joke. I self-censor myself on Facebook all the time. Whenever someone posts something and I think of a great line that's guaranteed to have people crowding around me and telling me I should die, I send it along in a private message. "This is what I was going to post--the little voice in my head said 'no.'"

I mostly just don't get the point of it, plus am pretty much not a fan of Kathy Griffin, so it's kinda difficult to defend on anything but 'definitely not illegal, ffs' grounds.

You're right, we've got one here...Facebook needs the same thing; a whole separate wall limited to friends who aren't going to go all apoplectic if you can't help making a connection between posts about their children and The Exorcist.

Treeship, Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:03 (six years ago) link

stabbings, plural

sleeve, Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:04 (six years ago) link

1950s? It is the first decade you can go back to that definitely had television, good highways and rural electricity, but also had Jim Crow laws and no federal civil rights enforcement. For some people that looks like the sweet spot to aim for. It's a shame about the constant Cold War fear of annihilation, but hey you can't have everything.

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:08 (six years ago) link

xxpost whether it was or it wasn't, i'm against free speech rallies where "free speech" is just a dog whistle for something sinister.

which isn't to say I don't think they have the right to assemble, but I don't have to feel sad if one of them gets run over by his own tractor on the way there

Charles "Butt" Stanton (Neanderthal), Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:10 (six years ago) link

yes, of course. they are ghouls -- no argument from me there.

but it would be especially obscene -- unthinkable even -- if this was an event that was explicitly designed to be in support of this racist murderer

Treeship, Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:19 (six years ago) link

it probably will draw more people because of the tragedy though, which brought notoriety. so that's pretty heinous.

Treeship, Thursday, 1 June 2017 00:21 (six years ago) link

well the racist murderer apparently thinks he was standing his ground for freedom of speech when he slit throats
