Here they are - the combined ILE/ILM results (there werent enough choices in common to separate them).

1. Missy Elliot - Work It (17 votes)
2. The Streats - Weak Become Heroes (8 votes)
3. Sugababes - Freak Like Me (7 votes)
4. Underworld - 2 Months Off (5 votes)
5=. Flaming Lips - Do you realise?
Golden Boy feat. Miss Kittin - Rippin Kittin
N.O.R.E. - Nothin'
The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers
Eminem - Without Me
LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge (4 votes each)

12 more tracks got 3 votes; 25 got 2 votes; and almost 300 got one vote (I'll post some of them later)

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 4 January 2003 22:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

I like one and half of them!

(sorry I didn't get my vote in)

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 4 January 2003 22:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am Mr ILX! I voted for the top four, and two of the joint fifth (NORE & Eminem), if I remember rightly! Does anyone else have such predictable consensus taste?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

damn, i thought rippin kittin was 01, otherwise i would have put it in my top 10 for 02

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

The only song there I haven't heard is "Rippin Kittin". I lurve all the other ones. But what are "Streats"? Is Mike Skinner endorsing bags of miniature frosted sugar cookies and/or caramel corn?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tom was obviously enjoying a bag of Werthers Original sweet butter candy whilst typing

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tom probably rice krispie treets as he walks down the streats.

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

Is that rhyming slang Nicole?

Graham (graham), Saturday, 4 January 2003 23:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

No, I was just guessing that Tom must spell treat as treet if he spells Streets as Streats. It was silly...

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 5 January 2003 00:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

Not as silly as me trying to imply rice krispie treets was the verb in that sentence.

Graham (graham), Sunday, 5 January 2003 00:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

12 more tracks got 3 votes; 25 got 2 votes; and almost 300 got one vote (I'll post some of them later)

Damn, we're anti-consensus! Three of the top ten would've been in my top ten had I bothered to vote.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 5 January 2003 01:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have just realised this is on the wrong board!

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 January 2003 10:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

Here are the ones which got 3 votes!

Eminem - Lose Yourself
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Ms Dynamite - It Takes More
DJ Sammy - Heaven
Massive Attack & Mos Def - I Against I
MC Pitman - Phone Pitman
Truth Hurts – Addictive
Tweet – Oops (Oh My)
Vitalic - La Rock 01
nelly- hot in herre
Sugababes - Round round.
The Streets - Lets Push Things Forward

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 January 2003 10:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

I actually voted for one of the ones that got three votes! I'm not deliberately obtuse! Yay me and my conformity.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 5 January 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am gonna take this incredibly wild guess that all my choices reside in the peloton of 300. Unless someone else voted for Mum & Dad, which I ain't holding out too much hope on.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 5 January 2003 10:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

this would be my top ten:

1. Still Waiting - Sum 41
2. A Thousand Miles - Vanessa Carlton
3. Anything but Ordinary - Avril Lavigne
4. Everlasting Scream - Elfpower
5. The Cold War's Over - The Happiest Guys in the World
6. Girl All The Bad Guys Want - Bowling for Soup
7. Stupid, Stoned and Dumb - Poison
8. Logical Song - Scooter
9. 3 Hours - Komeit
10. Enfermedad - Juniper Moon

(I managed to do this bit, but didn't have enough 2002 albums to be able to do that bit, and my films list was embarassing)

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 5 January 2003 10:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tom -- how's the adding-up of points goin' with the albums list?
and when might might the lists appear on ILM ??

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 5 January 2003 12:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes Tom, this one has been up for over 12 hours already! We're impatient for the next one!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 January 2003 12:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

About 2/3 done on the other two.

Who on earth are The Books?

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 5 January 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

multi now done

The ILX Readers Poll 2002 - RECORDS OF THE YEAR

zebedeez, Sunday, 5 January 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

I voted for the top 2 singles and two of the ones that got 3 votes. So, not as conformist as Martin but pretty square all the same.

Jeff W, Sunday, 5 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

damn, i thought rippin kittin was 01, otherwise i would have put it in my top 10 for 02

The original vinyl on Ladomat certainly was 01, but the international CD single release and the remixes 12" (X-Press-2, Tobi Neumann)were 02.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Was the point system only for albums then?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Point system was only for albums and films. For singles, you just named 10 in no particular order.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 5 January 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

I thought it was 10 tracks rather than singles!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

It was. And I was still the only person that voted for The Venue. Tssk.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes, i voted for a few non-singles also.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 5 January 2003 16:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

i dunno how or why, but sending in my singles list
i plain f o r g o t about "Work It"... a week later i woke up and
suddenly r e m e m b e r e d that i forgot
which now makes me suspect i'm maybe merely a character from that Bee Gees song

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 5 January 2003 17:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

It came top anyway, so there is no tragedy.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 January 2003 17:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

correct, Martin
no "tragedy"; more like "true confessions" & "my destiny"

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 5 January 2003 17:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

here's mine

1-THE RAPTURE "House of jealous lovers"
2-SEELENLUFT "Manila"
3-GOLD CHAINS "Rock the parti"
4-LCD SOUNDSYSTEM "Losing my edge"
5-EMILIE SIMON "Desert"
6-BUMCELLO "Beautiful you"
7-SUGABABES "Freak like me"
8-RADIO 4 "Dance to the underground"
9-DEATH IN VEGAS "Hands around my throat"
10-YEAH YEAH YEAHS "Bang"

Sami (Sami), Monday, 6 January 2003 01:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

I only just heard that "Hands Around My Throat" 12" and it's terrific, and I'm not just saying that because of the Adult involvement.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 6 January 2003 05:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

these are really good lists! and they make ILx look as democratic and wide-ranging as it is at its best. Pazz & Jop is now my second-favorite music critics' poll! yay!
