emily's storyline was great & very satisfying

those last words... my eyes could not roll back far enough in my head. all i could think was "when book research goes too far"

i rewatched the last episode last night. I feel fine about the last 4 words. I'm hoping it's the wookie's kid.

part of me likes thinking how it might play out ... brad def otm re liking it in a perverse way.

Honestly this is about as good a reboot as i've seen, and if it doesn't quite match the show's peaks, it definitely stands shoulder-to-shoulder with seasons 5 and 6, I'd say. Emotional arcs were super-satisfying, banter was still strong, and it successfully combined its narrative with all the obligatory character check-ins.

Yeah, the Star's Hollow musical was too drawn out, and I groaned when Logan's goon crew showed up. But otherwise really good!

oh yeah, life and death brigade scene was probably the stupidest part. like, these guys are in their 30's at this point. they're still doing this? Idle rich i guess.

also, this didn't really touch on what a shit Logan really is.

that was drowned out by kirk chasing a pig in circles for half an hour like a family guy outtake.

I don't know, if you thought the Kirk stuff was qualitatively different than all the shit his character did during the series' regular run, I don't know what to tell you. And they smartly front-loaded that stuff so it wouldn't interfere as the drama revved up.

super-otm, the paris stuff was everything i hoped for. Even a nice bit of physical comedy as she blocked the bathroom door with her foot

The stuff with Lorelai and Michel was really good, it felt like a great examination of the respect they have for each other even as most of their interactions are trading gripes at the Dragonfly

life and death brigade is the nadir of the revival and upsets the rhythm of what i think was a really well plotted and paced finale but also i just hate logan's rich larper friends

no shit, particularly the australian guy and his mannered quirkiness, I want to punch him. the best part of all of that was the wizard of oz goodbye.

I just learned that the actress who played Bertie is the same actress who plays Gypsy, which I didn't even realize.

berta's jokes in the subtitles were a rare and treasured moment of self-awareness in this show

life and death brigade song interlude was hella lame but i confess that i am a tiny bit fond of Finn. sorry.

idk berta just being like "can't believe emily can't even boil a pot of water" in the last episode was one of my fav things

Hrishikesh Hirway (NPR Song Exploder, West Wing Weekly etc) is a GG superfan and wrote a great otm thing about Gilmore Girls a while back - I just read it for the first time today & I think he's hella otm and now I want to rewatch the whole thing

I remember people really disliking the April plotline, but I really enjoyed her scene in this series. Would like to see more April-Rory heart to hearts.

april makes much more sense as a college student

the april plotline is definitely one of the low points of the series, but imo it had nothing to do with the actress, and everything to do with the scenario being a stupid cliche deployed to transparently add "drama." The writers had luke hide it from lorelai for an extended period of time, it was ridiculous.

I agree that April's scene in this was good. With all the aforementioned nonsense in the past, they did a good job showing how the family dynamic would work a decade later. It made sense that she would idolize Rory and her nervousness and lack of a filter would add to Rory's building shame at how things are going.

I understand that it was supposed to be a last hurrah/"goodbye to all that" moment for Rory, but it was hard for me to suspend disbelief that these jerks have no commitments that would prevent them from dropping everything to rampage all over a small Connecticut town. Obviously that's a quibble; I mainly just didn't want to see them at all. It's not like anyone was seriously wondering, "I wonder what's happened with Finn since 2007?"

Now knowing those mythic "final four words," a bummer to think Amy S-P was going to end Season 7/the series with Rory being pregnant at 23-24.
