Money: Grown up things or fun things?

Do I buy records tomorrow or the much-needed leaf blower? (to be fair, the leaf blower WOULD be kinda fun...)

Do I buy some books or do I buy Xmas presents?

Do I take the woman out to the movies or buy new pants for work?

The answers, of course, are obvious, but in my old age I'm finding it harder to rationalize spoiling myself for no reason other than my own sense of bloated self-worth and seemingly boundless whimsy

As a small aside, not meant as a criticism Rog but I dont get leaf blowers. What is the point? They move the leaves out of the way then the wind comes and blows them all over the place again. ANd they make a horrible noise in the process.

Whats wrong with raking leaves up into a compost heap? I hate leaf blowers! Damn garders at 9am waking me up mutter grump.

So uh, get records I guess =)

leaf blower more fun than records
xmas presents more satisfying than books
woman always more important than pants

Records, Books, and Movies. It's the only choice.

(I agree with Trayce re: leafblowers. They're just annoying.)

A lot of leaf blowers will grind the leaves up to be poured out onto the yard now.

get the fun things.

trayce - we have a big yard that happens to be surrounded by big trees. There are leaves everywhere. In the backyard, you can even make that 'swish swish' sound when you walk. We're currently the shame of the neighborhood.

Leaf blowers are great. Also, I'd like to hear how you'd clean leaves out of the gutter on the roof with a rake.

The one I want (a Toro) isn't noisy - it's electric, and turns leaves into mulch. I've had my eye on it for a while, because it's affordable and electric.

Plus, any machine that makes noise and slightly disrupts nature in some way is always a good time in my book.

TOMBOT otm.

OR, buy books and records as Christmas presents but read them/listen to them YOURSELF FIRST.

buy a leaf blower, when you get bored with it you can then give out raffle tickets to people, with the leaf blower being the jackpot prize, as presents.

I always get hit with huge waves of guilt if I do this. Should I?

I have never met a woman who means more to me than my leaf blower.

Ah, Leafy.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:25 (nineteen years ago) link

You'd better make sure never to get one that chops all the leaves up into tiny bits, I think.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:26 (nineteen years ago) link

the blowing ones should be okay.

I bought a leaf blower this fall for my big yard and it's the best purchase I've made in a while. My advice to you is to get a gas powered as they're more powerful. Otherwise the thing won't handle a large pile of leaves and you'll be using a rake anyway.

As for the other stuff, get the grown up things then reward yourself for your scruples by buying a few things off the fun list.

get some new pants, take them off and blow yourself with the leaf blower.

nine years pass...

i feel like i am gradually becoming a grown-up about shopping

used to be, i would go grocery shopping, or say food shopping (hard to call a lot of what i bought groceries), and just buy a bunch of whatever

now not only am i buying things because they go together to make sensible meals to last before the next trip, and buying things because they are cheap and can be used for more than one thing, i am also paying attention to the prices and sales, and when there's a discount on a staple that i don't need right then i buy it anyway, if i can, so that i save the money on the next time around

i'm so pleased with my modicum of prudence, i just wanna go out and reward myself with a ridiculous waste to compensate - luckily i literally can't afford to
