Robert Redford Is A Republican. DC Metro Area Thread 3.

We need a new thread. I don't do that 1000+ posts shit. Who knew we had so many DC folks that we could get up to 970? I blame myself.

I have some questions:

1. N/A is coming to town, e-mail us, dude.
2. As Mookieproof was saying, what is everyone planning on for the holidays?
3. Our subways are still running! Ha Ha.

Go!

TOMBOT, Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:24 (eighteen years ago) link

this morning NPR told me that DC has had nine white Christmases in the last century or so. PWNED

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

New York switches to taxi zone system & multiple fares per trip to cope with strike... DC WAY AHEAD OF THE GAME.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:36 (eighteen years ago) link

We don't even have the excuse of a strike for that crap though, dudes.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

plus, our zones are brand new and temporary and still better delineated and publicized than dc's crazy zones!

carly (carly), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:46 (eighteen years ago) link

I said this on the NYC transit strike thread, the other night I was taking a cab from Senso Sesto to our apt on Q/20th (it was pouring is my excuse for this extravagance) and the cabbie charged me $10!!!!!!! It's 4 blocks!!! Claimed I crossed a zone!!! WTF?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah the zone system in DC is actually just a way for cabbies to charge a flat fee to anybody in downtown. That's incredible bullshit about the zone crossing. What a fucking asshole.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Wow, yeah, if ANYBODY in the city south of U or east of Florida ever charges us more than the base rate for a cabride I'm going to have ammunition to scream at them and not pay. Finally. I should have found that graphic years ago.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 22 December 2005 18:11 (eighteen years ago) link

robert redford is a republican?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm glad that there is finally a DC thread title I understand

robert redford is a republican?

so is Jane Alexander

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I STILL don't understand that map.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:26 (eighteen years ago) link

I mean maybe I'm just completely retarded or something. Why not just claim neighborhoods are zones and charge that way, in some manner people would universally understand?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 19:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Hi everyone. My holiday is officially ruined for having to work on a contract proposal upon which my job is dependent. No pressure or anything. I will re-emerge sometime in mid January, just in time to join the military-industrial complex. TOMBOT, please tell me that at least I can look forward to tons of paid vacation. Please. We're in some 30-day quiet period and no one is telling us shit about LM bennies.

quincie, Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

I got 3 weeks a year plus basically unlimited comp time (which IS NOT COMP TIME, they keep telling us, despite the fact that people use it as such incessantly, I mean you take however much personal time you want and just make it up later, it's kinda great).
That sucks!

TOMBOT, Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:35 (eighteen years ago) link

im into hanging out during the holidays - email a brother off-board.

petesmith (plsmith), Thursday, 22 December 2005 20:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh oops I didn't see the new thread. I am here. I am kind of dizzy from being tired and then drinking a cappuccino my dad made me. I'll email Ally at the email she's using in this thread so I hope it's not fake. If it is fake, email me at naamme @ yahoo.com.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:30 (eighteen years ago) link

True, I trusted his reviews of Jumbo Slice and really was kind of disappointed. It struck me afterwards that perhaps he was too entranced by the sheer size and spectacle, kind of like a Roger Ebert of food.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:31 (eighteen years ago) link

screw a jumbo slice. have yinz been to pizzaria paradiso in your neighborhood? get the atomica and a few dead guys.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I like the sound of a "few dead guys" so I'm there.

re: tomorrow night, I would think city should be slightly dead so if anyone has a VENUE SUGGESTION I would be intrigued to hear it. Otherwise I will pick a joint fairly quiet with some FOOD OPTIONS that is not very far from my house but convenient to nothing, ie the 51st State.

Ooh or we could do the place round the corner from us and everyone can stop by and say hello to Mr. Kitty???

Or we could just be reasonable and I can not be lazy?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Ohhhh you guys know what place has some fucking KICK YOUR ASS wings, this total kind-of-new hole in the wall kinda hidden sporty bar in Adams Morgan, TS Muttly's. We only spotted it cos of the NFL SUNDAY TICKET sign they had up one sunday but those wings are like whoa. And only cost 25c each on Sundays FYI. Prolly more rest of the week, but I wouldn't know. I think between Tom and I we've killed 78 chickens in two visits there.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:44 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm going to the hockey game (go habs go), so somewhere over there (matchbox? rfd?) around 9:30 would be lovely. but whatever's good for n/a, really.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 23 December 2005 02:37 (eighteen years ago) link

You're going to the game? arrrgghh! lucky.

I am busy tomorrow unfortunately.

I should go to sleep now and instead I am watching Beavis & Butt-head watching a Revolting Cocks video..

What game is everyone going to? Hockey?

Are you guys working tomorrow, cause I have the day off. I will be getting my hair cut at Bang! in the afternoon if anyone is free for lunch/coffee/sniffing glue/etc.

Spink, Friday, 23 December 2005 14:25 (eighteen years ago) link

TOMBOT/Allylame, you guys are welcome to come up tomorrow(xmas eve) to have dinner at my place if you dont have anything going on. I got the shaft @ Heavenly Ham and had to get a larger one than I intended. Luke, Anthony, Brian, and maybe another couple people *should* be coming.

Either way, theres an invitiation.

Spink, Friday, 23 December 2005 14:32 (eighteen years ago) link

WE SHOULD DRINK.

Is there any consensus yet on where and when?

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I would love to come to dinner but I think there would be some controversy checking that guest list. :( Dude I make some wicked food for Christmas Eve though for reals. If we can't come to dinner do you guys wanna hang at a later date next week? What are you guys doing New Year's weekend?

drinking tonight is proving problematic because Nick has late evening commitments and I might have an early evening commitment, so we might be definitely missing one another :( BUT if you guys wanna work out an afterwork drinking thang don't let me be holding you guys up. I'm sure I will see everyone again in the near future!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:27 (eighteen years ago) link

"I got the shaft @ Heavenly Ham"=most promising Penthouse letter title ever.

Wish I was in town to join y'all. A merry drinking to all and to all a Heavenly Ham.

There are also a lot of people living here that I don't enjoy.

this is my problem at this time in a massive humongous way. may change soon however.

OTOH chi-kevin is correct in assuming I'm considering a move, that is definitely on the table (in march or april at the earliest though)

I think you should take your mom to "Wack--the Art of the Feminist Revolution" and if she doesn't like that, there is also a Frida Kahlo exhibit.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Llano,+TX&ie=UTF8&t=k&z=13&om=1

Follow 29 west out of Llano until it hits CR-102, follow CR-102 all the way to the river. You are now on 20 fine acres of scrub, limestone, cactii and snakes. Bring kayaks.

milo z, Monday, 1 October 2007 20:14 (sixteen years ago) link

is it really pronounced LAN-no?

gabbneb, Monday, 1 October 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Aside from the worst Pizza Hut on Earth and a Subway, every restaurant in town (all five of them) is some kind of BBQ. Llano being the deer capital of Texas, there are numerous places to have your take slaughtered and turned into jerky if you so desire.

xp - Proper Spanish pronunciation is probably different, but that's how I've heard everyone else pronounce it.
