And by Alfredo Di Stefano I of course mean "Ferenc Puskas". Great start.

I was just about to say, Di Stefano?!?!? But Puskas = CLASSIC

D: Frank Lampard

S: Kevin Bond, who starred in a largely lardy Exeter line-up which also included a fading Steve Moran and a not-very fit Ronnie Jepson. Actually, S all of the above.

Song of the year, that year: "2-4-6-8 overweight".

D:Julian Dicks, Neil Ruddock (in the same team), also Andy Reid.

I can't think of any classics.

All fat footballers are classic. Especially Andy Reid and Nicky Barmby.

Fat footballers are almost as classic as bald footballers

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Barry Lavety! I'm surprised the world didn't spin off its axis in Paisley when himself and Mark Yardley were playing upfront together.

He seems to have avoided cameras in his really fat stage. As does my other candidate for this thread, Sebastian Rozenthal. Though to be fair, it must have been easy for him to put on weight when he was sitting on his arse doing nothing forever.

Lavety:

Jesus, I'd forgotten all about Sebastian Rozenthal!

¡Vamos a matar, Dadaismus! (Dada), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Too be fair some of Lavety's extra curricular activities kept him slim for extended periods.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:08 (seventeen years ago) link

All my other answers have already been taken. Damn you all for starting this thread before I got home from work.

(xpost, cheers!)

Mark, have you put on weight since I last saw you? There's no way you're fatter than Mixu Paatelainen.

Can we do a fat Premiership footballers XI? Andy Reid, Neville Southall, Jan Molby, Razor Ruddock, Jan Aage Fjortoft, Frank Lampard, it'd be a cracking team.

so confusing that nobody was really making "lol tottenHAM HOTPOT" jokes before alvarez was like "Yeah i made them lose a combined 50kg and we've got 50kg to go"? like, the jokes aren't funny when they've alreadyl ost a bunch of the weight.

although i find it hilarious that the hardest thing for huddlestone was cutting ketchup form his eating-chicken ritual.

when's this Puskas photo from?

ohmigud (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 5 May 2013 18:18 (eleven years ago) link

I mind being at the last game at Celtic Park before the bulldozers came in in the early 90s, and there was a kickabout between the Lisbon Lions and some version of the Man Utd 68 team. Bobby Murdoch bore more than a passing resemblance to that photo, and lasted approx 10 seconds (I don't think he even moved!) before being subbed off.
