Pneumonia Support Group

Today I bit the bullet and went to the doctor (this is always a last resort because I have no insurance but it's been a week of 102-103 fever, old man cough and sweating) and, several shots (in my butt! as administered by a super hot blonde chick, no less), a nebulzier test, and several chest x rays later, it appears I've been walking around with pneumonia for over a week. So I'm on about five different presecriptions now and outta work too for a week or so too.

Turns out I had the flu, and, like Trayce's workaolic co-worker upthread, I tried to 'work thougth it.' Bad idea. I just assumed it was srep throat or something and thought I'd 'walk it off.' I'm getting old...

any other tips besides yogurt? They got me on Mucinex, an antibiotic, a steroid and cough syrup, and they gave me an inhaler.

my ex (as of a couple of days ago) just e-mailed me to say that she's in the hospital with pneumonia. feelin guilty. :(

but you can hardly be blamed for hogging the blankets if she's your ex?

hah, actually she's in the UK studying abroad, so we haven't seen each other for a long time. feelin bad for dumping her right at the same time when she's got pneumonia

Most of them aren't British, we just have a conducive economic environment for corporate brigandry.

Not sure if I should relate my wife's experience of the NHS when she got TB 2 years ago, other than to say that she did survive.

Dunno why Skype charging you 25c is the fault of the mobile phone company though.

smh more at the fact that international calls to mobiles in the UK cost 25 cents a minute, whereas calls to landlines cost 2 cents a minute.

an hour and a half phonecall to the states from my mobile over christmas cost me a bajillion pounds, so thank your lucky stars you didn't get through.

well she just called and sounded pretty distraught, they've got her on antibiotics and hopefully it'll subside, if not it may be viral. shuddering at what her phone bill will be. express yourself, NHS!

aside from joeks obv hope she's ok pneumonia ain't a joek kids.

well basically what happens is i try to breathe but it feels like the inside of my body is filled up with gravel so i can't, and then i start coughing up brown phlegm

gone to see a doctor yet? sounds pretty pneumonialike to me

yeah, i got an antibiotic today after a few days of this getting better in some ways and worse in others. sucks dragging yrself around town when you can't even talk. my voice is 100% gone today.

also found out at the clinic i went to that i have like massively high blood pressure, just altogether a great day.

they'll probably recheck that BP at the followup, lots of reasons it could be abnormally high when you're acutely ill. get lotsa rest and fluids, hopefully you'll be back at it by the beginning of next week

did they do a chest X-ray?

i did get a chest xray yesterday. had to go back today for some more blood tests and an ekg as apparently i'm just madly unhealthy in many many ways. they did say today that it looks more like bronchitis. so i guess wrong thread.

Hi there. :( I've had it at least since Thursday by the way I've been feeling, then tried going to work with a fever of 103. It can develop from lower grade illnesses, yeah? Because I'd been suffering from what I thought was a sinus infection for a week, gradually got better, went dancing, then the next morning: boom.

Taking one more day off.

I'm feeling much better already, but this time I want to err on the side of caution instead of going to work and then feeling awful again.

I had it a couple summers ago and was down for at least a week. Get better Leee.

day off work today with scar tissue still bugging me at times, five months after. doc says I'm doing p well compared to last time he saw me, idk I wasn't prepared to be "a sick person" for this long or w/e

:( sorry to hear that deems, hope you fully heal soon (glad to hear doc's optimistic take, but longterm sickness sucks, i imagine especially sucks to experience discomfort breathing)

yeah the doc kinda said to me that I could stop breathing for a while I think at that stage I was badgering him for answers I like to think he regretted that snappishneaa since but what's gone is gone

I'd mount a strong defence of the fella tbh, he opened his surgery on a saturday night and drove me to the door of the hospital the nkght i was admitted. context was v much him stressing to me that things couldn't be going much better and I'd have to be patient.

ah well, he's a swell doc & fella where it counts
