I had it last fall, and HERE WE GO AGAIN.
Another week in my absement gettign sick of recreation.

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado Is Sicker Than You (The GZeus), Thursday, 1 February 2007 02:52 (seventeen years ago) link

had it in december. one of the worst months of my life. say no to pneumNOia.

m@p (plosive), Thursday, 1 February 2007 02:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I got it twice when I was 12 and spent 8 months off school. It was pretty nasty and I couldn't eat, so I had drugs pumped in through a drip for about a month. I seem to have crap health anyway, but that was one of the worst things.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Thursday, 1 February 2007 06:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Good luck with that, dude. Almost died of this when I was in third grade.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 1 February 2007 06:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a bout of what they called 'mild abnormal bacterial pneumonia' when I was in university, it stole a month from me. Horrible.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 1 February 2007 07:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I might have averted it. I went in 2 days sooner than last time.
I still feel just as bad, just like... 50% easier to breathe this time.

One of my work colleages in his 50s has had a few bouts of this. He keeps trying to work thru them like the workaholic he is, and so he just doesn't get better.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 1 February 2007 08:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, it's here again.
This doctor gave me weaker antibiotics I'm sure now.
Well, at least a weaker dosage(ane a day VS two) and I don't think she believe how sick I was.
Need to talk with my usual doctor.

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado; Less sick than before (The GZeus), Sunday, 4 February 2007 22:51 (seventeen years ago) link

The antibiotics they use to treat pneumonia are pretty debilitating in themselves. Eat lots of yoghurt.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 4 February 2007 22:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude, I'll take the debilitating antibiotics over struggling to breath. Especially since I don't want the struggle to end!

one year passes...

Today I bit the bullet and went to the doctor (this is always a last resort because I have no insurance but it's been a week of 102-103 fever, old man cough and sweating) and, several shots (in my butt! as administered by a super hot blonde chick, no less), a nebulzier test, and several chest x rays later, it appears I've been walking around with pneumonia for over a week. So I'm on about five different presecriptions now and outta work too for a week or so too.

Turns out I had the flu, and, like Trayce's workaolic co-worker upthread, I tried to 'work thougth it.' Bad idea. I just assumed it was srep throat or something and thought I'd 'walk it off.' I'm getting old...

any other tips besides yogurt? They got me on Mucinex, an antibiotic, a steroid and cough syrup, and they gave me an inhaler.

one year passes...

my ex (as of a couple of days ago) just e-mailed me to say that she's in the hospital with pneumonia. feelin guilty. :(

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 11:40 (fourteen years ago) link

but you can hardly be blamed for hogging the blankets if she's your ex?

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Friday, 5 March 2010 11:53 (fourteen years ago) link

hah, actually she's in the UK studying abroad, so we haven't seen each other for a long time. feelin bad for dumping her right at the same time when she's got pneumonia

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 11:59 (fourteen years ago) link

hopin the NHS will pull through

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:04 (fourteen years ago) link

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:06 (fourteen years ago) link

lol I just tried to call her, got her voice mail, hung up and discovered that skype has deducted 25 cents from my account. smh at british mobile phone companies

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:08 (fourteen years ago) link

Most of them aren't British, we just have a conducive economic environment for corporate brigandry.

Shut That Maldoror (Noodle Vague), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Not sure if I should relate my wife's experience of the NHS when she got TB 2 years ago, other than to say that she did survive.

Dunno why Skype charging you 25c is the fault of the mobile phone company though.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 5 March 2010 12:12 (fourteen years ago) link

smh more at the fact that international calls to mobiles in the UK cost 25 cents a minute, whereas calls to landlines cost 2 cents a minute.

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:13 (fourteen years ago) link

25 cents a minute to uk mobile? you got off lightly

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:14 (fourteen years ago) link

an hour and a half phonecall to the states from my mobile over christmas cost me a bajillion pounds, so thank your lucky stars you didn't get through.

playin world in motion right now to cheer on the NHS. request that all further pronunciations of 'england' in the world follow the three-syllable version shouted in the outro. en-ge-land!

oh, it's actually a word. in-ger-land!

noted schloar (dyao), Friday, 5 March 2010 12:23 (fourteen years ago) link

well she just called and sounded pretty distraught, they've got her on antibiotics and hopefully it'll subside, if not it may be viral. shuddering at what her phone bill will be. express yourself, NHS!

tell us about it

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:31 (ten years ago) link

well basically what happens is i try to breathe but it feels like the inside of my body is filled up with gravel so i can't, and then i start coughing up brown phlegm

sleepingbag, Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:33 (ten years ago) link

gone to see a doctor yet? sounds pretty pneumonialike to me

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:40 (ten years ago) link

yeah, i got an antibiotic today after a few days of this getting better in some ways and worse in others. sucks dragging yrself around town when you can't even talk. my voice is 100% gone today.

sleepingbag, Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:43 (ten years ago) link

also found out at the clinic i went to that i have like massively high blood pressure, just altogether a great day.

sleepingbag, Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

they'll probably recheck that BP at the followup, lots of reasons it could be abnormally high when you're acutely ill. get lotsa rest and fluids, hopefully you'll be back at it by the beginning of next week

also get your flu shots everyone

twist boat veterans for stability (k3vin k.), Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:48 (ten years ago) link

did they do a chest X-ray?

well if it isn't old 11 cameras simon (gbx), Thursday, 7 November 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

i did get a chest xray yesterday. had to go back today for some more blood tests and an ekg as apparently i'm just madly unhealthy in many many ways. they did say today that it looks more like bronchitis. so i guess wrong thread.

eight months pass...

Hi there. :( I've had it at least since Thursday by the way I've been feeling, then tried going to work with a fever of 103. It can develop from lower grade illnesses, yeah? Because I'd been suffering from what I thought was a sinus infection for a week, gradually got better, went dancing, then the next morning: boom.

I'm feeling much better already, but this time I want to err on the side of caution instead of going to work and then feeling awful again.

I had it a couple summers ago and was down for at least a week. Get better Leee.

ten months pass...

day off work today with scar tissue still bugging me at times, five months after. doc says I'm doing p well compared to last time he saw me, idk I wasn't prepared to be "a sick person" for this long or w/e

irl lol (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 21:35 (eight years ago) link

:( sorry to hear that deems, hope you fully heal soon (glad to hear doc's optimistic take, but longterm sickness sucks, i imagine especially sucks to experience discomfort breathing)

drash, Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:40 (eight years ago) link

ah I'm fit and well until I lie down could be worse.

yeah the doc kinda said to me that I could stop breathing for a while I think at that stage I was badgering him for answers I like to think he regretted that snappishneaa since but what's gone is gone

irl lol (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 22:53 (eight years ago) link

until I lie down

that sounds bad enough tbh, hope it doesn’t affect yr sleeping too much

fuck that doc’s snappishness (i assume that’s like badly formed doc zing). it’s his duty to be forthcoming & frank

drash, Tuesday, 23 June 2015 23:17 (eight years ago) link

I'd mount a strong defence of the fella tbh, he opened his surgery on a saturday night and drove me to the door of the hospital the nkght i was admitted. context was v much him stressing to me that things couldn't be going much better and I'd have to be patient.

irl lol (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 June 2015 23:27 (eight years ago) link

ah well, he's a swell doc & fella where it counts
