Actually I think that could be a great idea.

Queen hits not as funny as "O Kazakhstan"

Most important part of story:

Cohen beat out actor Johnny Depp to the role, according to the Mirror.

Are we lucky or unlucky?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i kind of love this.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

every Hollywood music biopic is the same

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

so once again, actor will win Oscar the year after he should've.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

kind of like every Shakey Mo post in that respect

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Shakey Mo is going to win an Oscar this year?

I think SBC is a good actor and I'd like to see what he'd do with a non-irritating role. I just hope he doesn't do the role as a bunch of schtick.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:26 (sixteen years ago) link

and get torn limb from limb by Freddie's cult? He'll approach it like Hamlet.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:27 (sixteen years ago) link

well, in my experience, if there is one thing freddie mercury fans hate the most, it is schtick, comedy, and camp, totally otm on that one.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah but I mean I hope he doesn't equate Freddie on stage with Freddie as a character.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:32 (sixteen years ago) link

With no director attached, this sounds a little too much like Jude Law as Ian Curtis.

SBC has a supporting role in the Depp-Burton Sweeney Todd.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Thats it.Sasha has ofiicially sold out himself to the boring mainstream.

Zeno, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Have they cast the rest of the band yet? Will the actor portraying John Deacon lick his fingers whilst playing?

xp: yes, the first words that come to mind with "boring mainstream" is "freddie mercury movie"

kingfish, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:36 (sixteen years ago) link

this is all part of the cheneyrove regime like the spiderman 3 flag it ruined my life

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

cheneyrove regime

haha, haven't thought of that ilxor in a while

kingfish, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:38 (sixteen years ago) link

SBC has a supporting role in the Depp-Burton Sweeney Todd.

I used to love him (circa Edward Scissorhands/Ed Wood) but at this point I just wish he'd stop making movies. I'm so sick of him ruining good material by Tim Burtonizing it.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:41 (sixteen years ago) link

check the date on the NME article, it's from last week and SBC's camp debunked it a week ago. thank god.

lol @ the idea that someone who hammed it up in a Madonna video 7 years ago is just now 'selling out to the boring mainstream'

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

even a cursory reading of Foucault should have told us that

HI DERE, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 19:46 (sixteen years ago) link

SBC > Johnny Depp

"well, in my experience, if there is one thing freddie mercury fans hate the most, it is schtick, comedy, and camp, totally otm on that one."

somebody needs to quiz Barry George on this.

three years pass...

Well, talk about predicting the future:

No script, no director, and some empty waffle? Sure sounds a lot more solid than it did three years ago!

three years pass...

Borat out, and in for a "family-friendly" film... someone way too wispy and cute.

there is no way this isn't going to be terrible. i don't know why anyone thinks a "family-friendly" telling of the Queen story would be interesting for anyone.

How are bowls full of coke carried round at parties by boys in hot pants not family friendly?

interesting for Queen's net worth

sounds awful. bummed that SBC didn't end up in it, was honestly excited for that. don't ruin the Queen 'brand' though.
