Shall we anticpate the AMC series "Breaking Bad"? I think I may.

Mad Men was pretty great, and I def. like the concept of Malcolm in the Middle's dad as a chem teacher who starts cooking meth.

I didn't care for Weeds, though. Hmmm...

a high school chemistry teacher who starts making meth on the side, I think. created by Vince Gilligan, of X Files fame.

Yeah, that's the one. Apparently it aired Saturday, but I saw it on On-Demand.

sounds like a darker, twisted version of "weeds". curious to see Cranston as a dramatic lead.

more twisted, I should say

I'm finding it harder than ever to not see the brother in law as some kind of tv-jazz riff on Vic Mackey. Esp. when he's sending crime scene photos on his personal cellphone while he cracks jokes.

ice cr?m, Sunday, 22 March 2009 23:32 (5 years ago) Permalink

Tuco's grandfather is now officially my new favorite television character. That bell = pure genius. And in general, I think that the subtle details and quirks of the characters is the best thing about this show, at once kind of Lynchian and realistic-seeming (which would seem impossible, but they pull it off somehow).

from ep 1 -

"well - why do you do it?"

"money.. mainly"

"there you go"

"wait wait hold up. this isn't normal. it's weird! if you're crazy, or depressed or something.. i need to know! that affects me!!"

this last sentence from "the cap'n" has got me hooked - he's a real character suddenly instead of a stereotype - this show is going to rule

I thought I might be a little bored the second time round but it's so story-intensive that I spent a lot of time 1st time wondering what was gonna happen, the mechanics of it all etc. This time I'm enjoying concentrating on the other stuff.

just finishing up the first half of season 5 -- i love how this season has really amped up the western story aspects of the show -- like the train robbery, the stand off with the other meth dealing crew etc. also loved walter really losing it and how his inzanity affects the rest of his team.

The pacing on this show has gotten completely batshit, starting with S5E08 and then all of the last half of S5 so far has been like waaaay too much shit moving the plot along in a v stuffy and cluttered way. Like I feel like I missed 3 or 4 episodes somewhere

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 1 September 2013 15:48 (1 year ago) Permalink

YO, MAD SPOLERS, BITCH

the fact that Hank finds out abt Walt in the last 30 sec of one episode, and then entirely within the next episode we have Walt realizing Hank knows, and then Hank realizing that Walt knows that he knows, all the cards on the table in the course of 45 min; like where is the buildup and tension and suspense? This is stupid nuts.

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 1 September 2013 15:51 (1 year ago) Permalink

we discussed this upthread, although many of us were fond of the way that was handled. I personally didn't want the "will Hank discover Heisenberg" trope being something that lorded over the season until like ep 6 or 7, as that's clichéd, though to be honest it is what I expected. I liked that they got it out of the way.
