Multiple xposts re: font hoarding: OK, I'm a freelance g. designer & I don't keep that many fonts on hand (selectivity regarding fonts is a preventative measure against the protracted dilly-dallying I'm prone to when given a galaxy of choices), tho I can certainly empathize with the love for the Lots o' Fonts approach. Anyway, I have a technical question for you guys: Are you Mac users &, if so, how do you keep your obscene font quantities from bogging down the applications you use. I have nowhere near as much as you guys have & Illustrator, InDesign & (especially) Word constantly get bogged down with font processing. Is there a preventative measure I'm missing out on?

My fonts aren't all in ~/Library/Fonts, no way.

Also, a pro dude would be a lot more careful about licensing than I am.

slacki (libcrypt), Sunday, 15 February 2009 03:54 (fifteen years ago) link

The big foundries, probably there's no way they give a shit about borrowed fonts. The smaller houses, tho, some of them are paranoid weirdos.

slacki (libcrypt), Sunday, 15 February 2009 03:56 (fifteen years ago) link

So, is there a way to archive & display your entire font collection using Font Book without storing them in Library?

Pillbox, do you use a font management utility? Use this. It's theee bombe.

FontExplorerX is no longer going to be free, but it's cheap, and it still beats Suitcase, Font Reserve and FontAgent Pro in my book.

Fontbook should be empty except for those crucial system fonts.

Don't even get me started on apple's helvetica .dfont.

Yes. So
get the free version now while you can, and keep the .dmg file somewhere safe.

two years pass...

hey font guys -- i'm looking for a script font that has a big, fat large lettered feel to it and that would look good in blue. I tried Lobster (but it was too lobstery) and SAF (but it didn't have any lower case letters). this next piece isn't going to make any sense but i also want it to be a little jazzy, or bluesy? like to have a little personality. Any good recommendations?

Mordy, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 14:54 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe something like androgyne or Marketing Script? I know one of you font mavens have some good suggestions for me
