Today I saw a box set of 4 Raquel Welch movies for 10 uk pounds at hmv. The titles were 10,000,000 years bc, lady in cement and er 2 others I forget. When I were but a lad she was the epitome of hottness. I had completely forgotten that she even existed before spotting this set earlier this evening. Of the films listed I can remember seeing "Fantastic Voyage", "One Million Years B.C.", "Bedazzled", "Myra Breckinridge". If "Bluebeard" is the "Bluebeard" with Marty Feldman's head in a box and all the 1970's and the "hilarious" rape joeks, I have seen that and it was shit. Also "Mother, Jugs and "Speed" which I can remember 0 about apart from the title. "Fantastic Voyage" is pretty charming, for all it's hokeyness, but "Bedazzled" is the obv choice to me. "Raquel Welch" is such a great movie star name!

I C&P-ed the list from shitipedia, don't blame me if there's stuff missing, I'd have got it from imdb but I couldn't be arsed deleting all the TV appearances. Dare I say that I found "Myra Breckinrige" to be utterly atrocious?

Hardly seen any of these. LOVE the Richard Lester Musketeers films though. 4 is probably the best.

I've hardly even heard of any of them! Oops I forgot a picture to go w/the poll. Here y'go:

My dad used to get Pirelli calendars in the 1970's All the women in them looked like that!

Kansas City Bomber is pretty awesome, or it was when I saw it at the age of 14 anyway. Myra Breckinridge is truly horrible yes. Wasn't One Million Years B.C. remade recently or did I dream it?

aw i remember liking myra breckinridge

johnny crunch, Monday, 8 June 2009 23:40 (fourteen years ago) link

It has to be the Musketeer movies. She's better in the Three than the Four, so I say Three.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 8 June 2009 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, Myra Breckinridge is great. Entirely confused and confusing, but great. The Magic Christian is far and away my favourite of these, though.

emil.y, Monday, 8 June 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

OMG, that picture. She always was breathtakingly beautiful and elegant.

The best film is likely Bedazzled, but that's not rlly the question

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 02:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Myra Breckinridge is awful, and not even in a fun way.

velko, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 02:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Fathom is silly fun, but will probably vote for Bandolero!

Carroll Shelby Downard (Elvis Telecom), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 05:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Watch Kansas City Bomber again, it's really not awesome, in fact it's bad. Fathom is much more enjoyable and everyone should see Bedazzled though Raquel's role is small. Fuzz wants to be M*A*S*H in a police station & I found it disappointing. Both 100 Rifles and Hannie Caulder are solid, worthy westerns. Bandolero is not, though it starts out interestingly. One Million Years BC is fun if you can stomach Homo sapiens battling dinosaurs. And if a woman who looks like Raquel were really around One Million Years BC, what kind of progress has our species made since then?

Also check out her TV special from 1970, Raquel!. Let's face it, she was a fox. When watching one of the movies listed above, I feel there can never be enough Raquel.

Myra Breckinridge easy, yet another of the Fifty Worst Films of All Time which was nothing of the sort. Adore Legally Blonde too.

So I don't know if this was ever released commercially, but I ran across a copy of it and good grief it's mind-croggingly insane.

Big conflict w/ Geo Kuchar series, but I guess I will try to make Kansas City Bomber or One Million Years B.C.

Kansas City Bomber is pretty awesome

That's the film Phil Ochs wrote the theme song for?

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 February 2012 16:20 (twelve years ago) link

Wiki informs me the song wasn't used in the film.

Can't make Myra, it wd require skipping a Ford I've never seen, Two Rode Together.

"I suppose if a gay man was going to make himself into a woman, and he's a film critic and he wants to embody somebody who is a movie star, maybe he would want to look like Raquel Welch." - Raquel Welch in today's Wall Street Journal.

"mother, jugs and speed" is as good as a movie title can get

iirc "100 rifles" was controversial for the jim brown/welch pairing

richard lester's three & four musketeers are both pretty cool. four musketeers contains one of cinema's greatest swordfights ever, the climactic duel between michael york and christopher lee

Her Muppet Show appearance deserves a mention. Including dance with a big spider

I found Fantastic Voyage on a sale DVD with Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, watched it last night. I'm guessing it was one of the first 20 films I saw as a kid. The special effects were like IMAX, 3D, and Sensurround all rolled into one at the time; they felt a little...not really there last night. The funniest moment comes at about the one-hour mark, when they come up with an excuse to get Raquel out of her button-up submarine gear for something a little more form-fitting (the camera hangs back a few extra seconds so we can watch her do this). All in all, not nearly as good as Coolio, but it still held some nostalgic appeal. Had no idea William Redfield from Cuckoo's Nest had been around that long...turns out he goes back to the early '50s.

clemenza, Tuesday, 25 November 2014 00:36 (nine years ago) link

my daughter has expressed an interest in that... it's kinda strange that one hasn't been remade in the era of 3D-CGI tbh

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 25 November 2014 00:39 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, it's just waiting there. Would be fun to cast. For Raquel, I don't know. She was 26 at the time, still not as famous as she would be a year later with One Million Years B.C. I don't know today's lesser known actresses well enough to find a match. I could probably come up with a long list of equally-bad Stephen Boyds, though.
