I recommend against gravity movies only because we would have too much overlap with the action thread. Too soon. No gravity.

Comedies. Also: canonized film whose appeal you find most mystifying.

I think I'm going to go with war movies, though SF and romantic comedies would be ok.

I voted war movies. It'll be interesting to see what people consider "war movies." Actual combat action? Just a wartime setting (e.g. Casablanca)?

The canon doesn't have an awful lot of time for comedies (even less so than action films?) so I'd love a comedy poll. I might even remember to vote in it this time.

Comedies, 'thrillers', sci-fi in that order. I'd be interested in polls of British movies and French movies. In a Brit movie poll I'd be keen to see how the results would differ between Brits and the rest of the world.

Serious vote for comedies, though. It's broad enough to elicit some surprising results. We probably just need to chip in on a Life Alert for Morbs before the results come in.

Also a write-in for a proper horror ballot poll, although most people seem to think the year-by-year polls are sufficient.

I think the ballot polls work best with broader categories, like an artist's full discography as opposed to all the tracks on one album.

so yeah the no-films-that-haven't-had-a-theatrical-run idea is a go-er for the music-y movies poll imo. as i was blethering on about over on the other thread MOJO mag's current Top 100 Music Movies poll cheerfully threw in concert movies, docs, musicals, spoofs etc next to Pretty In Pink, Two Lane Blacktop, Easy Rider, Blow Out and suchlike. seems kinda fun.

If those are the parameters, and The Virgin Suicides and Rushmore and Boogie Nights and the like are eligible, I guarantee I will wear out my welcome within the first 15 posts.
