i accidentally closed the tab right after i discovered the dragon let you swim down and acquire infinite fruit, but everything had gone so batshit crazy by then that i don't know if i could ever finish "wave 1" and do anything with it

i don't understand the scoring

that doesn't really seem like the point tho

i was not expecting the ddr section

i played this morning and it rules, but i got stuck on the bug porn production simulator and then accidentally closed the tab

I don’t get what all the positive comments are about. It’s almost as though the programmer didn’t have a clear vision of what game they were trying to make. In terms of ‘edutainment’ it does a good job of introducing the idea of fractions for kids, but I’m not sure they’ll enjoy the gameplay enough for this information to really sink in. And why include typing, unless it is somehow connected to fractions or mathematics ? Perhaps the words could be things like ‘fraction’ or ‘surd’.

I give it only 6/10. That’s a score out of ten by the way, not six tenths ! That would be funny though, seeing as though this is a game about fractions. Ha !

The text part reminded me of the Hitchhiker's Guide game. I typed "smell" and nothing happened, though.

The underwater bit isn't too hard, just keep going.

Yeah, it goes on for far longer than you'd expect, but I wound up finishing that part on the first try just thru brute-forcing it

if you don't play it with the sound on in that section, its not nearly as awesome/entertaining.

I have never played it with sound, maybe worth a replay, then?

at least for that section. i love how the music fades out when you first dip underwater.

don't want to ruin anything, but there's a _lot_ happening with sound in the underwater section, and it also helps make the slog seem much less so.

For a child in the 1980s, playing a video game meant entering a world operating under confusing and effectively unknowable rules, in which anything could happen. This context lent enormous weight and mystery to every game, with no additional effort on the part of the developer. Nowadays, anything you might wonder about a game, you can look up online. Developers must work hard to make a game mysterious, even for players who are willing to play along. This talk will cover a number of techniques for doing so, and attempt to create a unifying philosophy for them.

Jim Crawford has been making video games for over twenty years, but nobody noticed until he moved to the Bay Area and started making friends with game journalists. Since making Frog Fractions, he's told day jobs to screw off and is riding the making games train until the conductor realizes that he forgot to buy a ticket.

yeah it's entertaining. the actual "gameplay" is a drag (which fits the fiction) but then there's way too much of it, which also fits the fiction i guess. maybe it's too good? worth $5 for sure

i got through pony island in a sitting because i figured otherwise i'd probably just never go back to it, entertaining i guess but ultimately cynical, made me want to be playing something with actual gameplay, etc
