why does hillary have an anthropomorphic pickled gherkin on her bedside table

lazy rascals, spending their substance, and more, in riotous living (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 18 September 2016 12:13 (seven years ago) link

Why is there a T on the bed? Why doesn't Hillary have any lower body? Why is Putin riding a flying dog? Is that a Master and Margherita reference I don't remember?

Frederik B, Sunday, 18 September 2016 12:34 (seven years ago) link

The moon is shining showing Hillary things she is terrified of / The artist is not particularly good / You have failed to recognise a bear.

Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 18 September 2016 13:56 (seven years ago) link

Oh, for fuck sake. I knew it was a bear, but then I got confused because of Bulgakov, and wrote it was a dog. Is there a flying dog in Bulgakov? No. Why you ask?

Frederik B, Sunday, 18 September 2016 14:03 (seven years ago) link

And that 'ffs' was directed at myself, not you. Fuck me for not recognizing a flying bear when I see one.

Great find. The ban on lawn darts was definitely the end of our national masculinity.

Anacostia Aerodrome (El Tomboto), Thursday, 6 October 2016 01:44 (seven years ago) link

don't forget the pansy liberals also banned horseshoes, because the horses were running out of shoes

qualx, Thursday, 6 October 2016 01:46 (seven years ago) link

True fact, there was never a ban on horseshoes. We as a nation, of men, fathers of boys, simply became too weak to throw them, and so the game became impossible. Shortly thereafter, abortion was legalized.

I really do like the thought process where flitty middle-class safety dad is an evolutionary step below drunken lawn-dart throwing redneck because masculinity

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 6 October 2016 03:47 (seven years ago) link

EVOLUTION?

Anyway, sum1 pls to replace CP Dad in picture with scary clown

you're all cucks!

is there an alt-right thread? makes sense that we'd study the scariest cultural phenomenon of our time a little more closely

Yeah, I was thinking about the lack of this kind of thread recently. There's a lot of background in the casual racism and sexism in gaming thread and then scattered throughout the various politics and election threads, but not necessarily a central repository to discuss the ascendancy of the deplorables.

how's life, Thursday, 6 October 2016 10:43 (seven years ago) link

Isn't there already a Men's Rights thread?

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 6 October 2016 10:55 (seven years ago) link

Oh yeah, that too. And the racism threads.

how's life, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:00 (seven years ago) link

yeah but I feel it's time to confront this demon head-on. mods, prepare your banhammers

imago, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:13 (seven years ago) link

I think the difference though it's that with their recognition in the national news media, there's serious cause for concern that they won't just crumble into cheetoh dust when the election's over and get swept beck down into their mothers' basements. Batshit has always been troublingly close to the surface, but now it's normal and accepted and out there.

Xp

Banhammers, imsgo? If you're going to invite Milo Yiannopoulos to ilx he won't be the only one getting banned.

how's life, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:17 (seven years ago) link

i think it would be hard to start a thread about the alt-right without a whole load of googling goons descending on it, but we live in hope

imago, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:23 (seven years ago) link

that's what de-indexing is for

jason waterfalls (gbx), Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:42 (seven years ago) link

batshit rightwing cartoon thread occasionally descends down an alt-right rabbithole - when it does I suppose it's the next closest after what became the Gamergate thread to describing a community of these fuckers.

Which is to say: Mr Gorbachev - make that thread.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:57 (seven years ago) link

Oh.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 6 October 2016 11:57 (seven years ago) link

The way Garrison so lovingly draws Trump's hair is nearly as worrying as the content of his shitty cartoons.

It's somehow worshipful yet still totally unflattering.

There's gotta be some good ones about pussygate, no?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 04:23 (seven years ago) link

more horrifying than "good"

brimstead, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 04:39 (seven years ago) link

after spending some time on social media and among men and women who are righteously angry about "pussygate", I am making an effort to finding the balance between being less flippant and ironic about the daily horror of the front page without ending up TRENCHANT and unnecessarily didactic in that process. somehow pointing even obliquely at shit like this feels more enabling than escaping, i dunno. Help?

the notes the loon doesn't play (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 October 2016 06:11 (seven years ago) link

maybe think and listen instead of feeling like to have to add your 2 cents.

Oh no I'm being

brimstead, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 06:22 (seven years ago) link

... trenchant!

brimstead, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 06:22 (seven years ago) link

also, don't use the word "pussygate"

brimstead, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 06:22 (seven years ago) link

doing some of that.
my 2 cents stays 2 cents if i keep it in my pocket so when i share it with people it's less about being instructive or incisive and more just hopeful it can turn into silk scarves or doves through the magic power of dialogue.
but i can diggit if an arched eyebrow is about all that post earned.
and yeah, i probably should have put a few more quotation marks around that phrase.

the notes the loon doesn't play (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 October 2016 06:33 (seven years ago) link

I'm not going to post any words directly about that dipshit online if I can help it

weird mix of "cutting' details like that, and just kinda miscellaneous yard-sale scene setting. was expecting more of the stuff on sale to reflect famous obama scandals. i guess maybe the golf balls suggest he takes too much time off to play golf or some other such thing. and he's selling off all the USA swag, sure. but lava lamps, stereos.... lazy!
