My friend got to act w/Key in ad shot in Houston during the Super Bowl. She said he was really awesome and nice.

I still think of the ending to that mattress shopping sketch though I never quite figured out what the implication was

frogbs, Thursday, 13 September 2018 15:44 (five years ago) link

the Turbulence flight sketch still kills me. esp the way Peele slides over after Key tries to get out of his aisle to take a shit

fuck the NRA (Neanderthal), Thursday, 13 September 2018 15:45 (five years ago) link

also every time Key hits the roof of the plane due to turbulence

after careful consideration I think the Ray Parker Jr. commercial is probably one of the funniest sketches ever made

have we really never done a K&P sketch poll???

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 07:14 (three years ago) link

Prepared For Terries is the first one I saw and remains my favourite, despite having now seen a lot more. did they ever revive those characters?

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 08:52 (three years ago) link

Malcolm Barrett is an amazing straight man/foil in that one

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 09:37 (three years ago) link

Prepared for Terries was in the last season. I'd seen it so many times in youtube etc before I watched s5, I was surprised it was actually broadcast so late in their run

Agreed re: Malcolm Barrett, what a turn!

Was that sketch perceptibly a reference to anything else or was it just their own fevered imaginations? The bit where Keegan first glides into view is spine-chilling

Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 09:49 (three years ago) link

so many brilliant sketches but very very hard not to vote for Continental Breakfast

continental breakfast is an obvious classic. 'the flicker' was another one. they were also the rare sketch show where the returning bits never lost their luster (football names, valets, substitute teacher, obama, etc.)

i think the 80s aerobics sketch might take the cake for me though, and was the kind of sketch that made me less surprised than most when jordan peele turned into a horror auteur

voodoo chili, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:08 (three years ago) link

continental breakfast suffers amidst this competition for its so-so ending imo

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:11 (three years ago) link

to be fair, some of the best comedy sketches ever have so-so endings

voodoo chili, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:14 (three years ago) link

I never saw the Big Boi/Andre sketch, holy lol

fatuous salad (symsymsym), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:57 (three years ago) link

Their hit:miss ratio varied pretty wildly for me esp in later seasons but for sheer quantity of amazing sketches/characters they're up there with some of the best I've seen

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 17:59 (three years ago) link

can't believe anyone doesn't like the ending of continental breakfast

fatuous salad (symsymsym), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:00 (three years ago) link

I can't believe I totally forgot about the aerobics sketch.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:10 (three years ago) link

Has Keanu aged well? I remember it being very unfunny when I first tried to watch it (never finished it).

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:16 (three years ago) link

I watched maybe 30 minutes and bailed. One-joke movie.

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:16 (three years ago) link

(I guess it's possible the other jokes came later.)

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:17 (three years ago) link

I watched the whole thing and it was bad

Rik Waller-Bridge (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:17 (three years ago) link

Keanu was not good, though it did feature a subdued pre-Girls Trip Tiffany Haddish. Felt like a typical SNL movie, bad sketch premise extended to feature film length. Maybe find the Anna Faris parts online somewhere.

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:22 (three years ago) link

I'm trying to think of how to even hypothetically run a key and peele sketch poll and it's dizzying. Each recurring premise/set of characters gets lumped into one slot I guess?

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 27 May 2020 18:22 (three years ago) link

Maybe find the Anna Faris parts online somewhere.

She really was the queen of livening up otherwise subpar comedies for quite a while there
