"1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster
for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of
those of us who live in 'advanced' countries, but they have
destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected
human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological
suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have
inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued
development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly
subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage
on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social
disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased
physical suffering even in 'advanced' countries."

When I was in college in NYC I was walking down Lafayette St. and passed by Mich@eL R@ppaport and some dude and MR was talking very loudly and animatedly and all I heard was blah blah blah herpes blah blah and he must have seen it register on my face because a couple seconds late he turned around and was like, "Hey! I was telling a story. It wasn't me, I don't have herpes!".

OLD MAN: Excuse me, did they all go home for the day?

NURSE: Yeah, they get out of here around four.

OLD MAN: I just came by to offer an apology. I'll come back later.

NURSE: What, about the urine? Don't worry about it.

OLD MAN: I'll come back later.

overheard while shopping on Thursday:

woman 1: "you're darker than anyone else"
woman 2: "I'll be a nigger before you know it"
woman 1: "shhh"

I didn't call her out for it, but I wonder if I should have — though it's problematic for a twenty-something white man to publicly accuse a fifty-something Latina woman of racism even when the accusation is completely justified.

douchey egomaniac in theatre community goes on and on indirectly about his indignance about how his ex still had some of his stuff at her house and other ways she'd wronged him.

she was sitting like 20 feet away from him at the same table (this is a festival so the tables are very long and interconnected). what he was saying was clearly affecting her too.
