stylings (Matt P), Sunday, 27 October 2013 01:57 (ten years ago) link

and are actors / directors. buster keaton was an actual genius and is in a league of his own.

stylings (Matt P), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:00 (ten years ago) link

i'm a fan of diane. michael i can take or leave i guess.

stylings (Matt P), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:01 (ten years ago) link

yeah this is a really a poll about whether talent/influence is more important than raw charm. diane keaton is incredibly endearing.

Voting for the one with the Houdini connection.

Sodade Stereo (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:03 (ten years ago) link

buster was pretty freaking cute.

stylings (Matt P), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:19 (ten years ago) link

yeah, he was. Our Hospitality is probably my favorite silent film and mostly for his facial expressions. diane keaton in the 70s was next-level cute though.

michael keaton is pretty good, but if he never existed i don't think our culture would be much worse off for it, but the other two are american treasures.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:22 (ten years ago) link

Buster should win in a landslide. Or a tornado or a flood, in which a building, boat or mountain collapses around him whilst he remains standing, unbeaten and unbowed. Also, what's next- TS Arthur C. Clarke vs. Arthur C. Danto?

Sodade Stereo (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:22 (ten years ago) link

yeah, that was what i was going to do next actually

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:23 (ten years ago) link

Diane and Michael were not Keatons at birth: disqualified.

jmm, Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:26 (ten years ago) link

i am more charmed by buster than diane but their appeal is.. different? idk we're talking about a 60-70 year gap. it feels sort of weird to compare but it does make a strange kind of sense now that i picture them side-by-side.

stylings (Matt P), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:27 (ten years ago) link

i think it's because they parlay clumsiness into a higher form of gracefulness

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 02:44 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, how do you not vote for Buster?

Popture, Sunday, 27 October 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

now Treeship i KNOW you're not saying Buster lacks charm

eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:05 (ten years ago) link

not at all. but diane keaton in her heyday is my biggest celebrity crush of all time.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:44 (ten years ago) link

if charm were rocket fuel she could reach mars while buster might have to stop at the moon. 99% of people, i admit, wouldn't be able to leave the atmosphere.

I feel a little bad about Di here, but Buster is about as important as it gets in the history of cinema.

michael was robbed tbh

Yeah, I'm really shocked that the best silent movie comedian of all time beat out a middling comic-actor from the 1980s.

Josefa, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:29 (ten years ago) link

Only one of these people was batman.

Jeff, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:30 (ten years ago) link

middling comic-actor

i was kinda joking -- you can't fuck with buster -- but michael is not 'middling'

mookieproof, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:33 (ten years ago) link

I guess he was good in 'Night Shift,' iirc

Josefa, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:38 (ten years ago) link

Only one of these people was batman

Only one of these people became a legend before Batman was created

Josefa, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:40 (ten years ago) link

his voice was probably like barry bonds'

mookieproof, Sunday, 1 December 2013 04:45 (ten years ago) link

Buster made talkies too, y'know (it was a Kansas croak)

If they ever do a live action Rick and Morty, I got to think you get Michael Keaton as Rick.
