Since this is a lesser cold streak than earlier in the month, I'm going to defy it. Which means running at least 3 times this week.

The only thing keeping me alive is the idea that spring will definitely come eventually. That and a few other things, but mostly that.

The just put up that flag, which led me to finally google them. It's an odd organization, but not as creepy as I expected (hoped).

It's not been trying for me in the same way summer can be, but I feel very sad that so much of my leave has been spent cooped up inside bc of the weather. The handful of times Ivy and I have go out have been so delightful.

I think she's hearty enough to go outside more now if it were high 20s but waiting for a bus/train in the teens/single digits seems like a bad idea if I can avoid it.

Both I think! Definitely drifting, but also amazing shit tons of snow.

Is anyone else just not getting mail? We haven't gotten any mail in at least a week, maybe more like a week and a half. I would assume there was just no mail for us except we were supposed to get a Netflix last Thursday and it hasn't come and the estimated delivery dates on those are pretty much always accurate.

Our mail was a bit fucked up after the Cold of Doom, but it's been back to normal for the last couple weeks.

Ours has been really intermittant since the Poehler Vortex. My New Yorkers have been coming like a week late and we'll go 3-4 days without anything and then everything all at once.

Mail delivery in Chicago has always been a bit laissez faire, in my experience.

It's usually pretty reliable at our apartment, which is what makes it weird. I just submitted a complaint form on their website so I'm sure that will fix everything right up.

I think our mail has been pretty normal? I think it's unusual to get no mail, not even junk, for a week and a half for sure, though. We at least get some kind of sales paper or charity solicitation bullshit every day.

I got a call back, apparently it's a problem with the carrier's access to our building specifically, so I passed it on to the landlord.

I've definitely gotten more ~~chill~~ about what people wear as I've gotten older* although I do get very IA when people wear things that are too warm for the weather, like furry hats or jeans and knee-high boots when it's in the 90s.

*which is an attitude I'm actively trying to cultivate as Ivy gets older and starts picking out her own clothes. I got a lot of garbage from my family for my personal clothing preferences, be they on trend or my own ideas, because they were not the exact same as my elders' clothing preferences, and I want Ivy to feel like she's got all the room in the world to be as weird as she wants on that front.

anyway, jaymc, in the spirit of the temporarily on hiatus horror movie marathon we hosted as a more comfortable alternative to the Music Box Massacre, come hang out on our deck.... let's see not this weekend or next weekend but the weekend after maybe and we'll play selections from Pitchfork artists and you can pee in the alley behind our house and drink beer out of plastic cups.

I felt pretty good about skipping Pitchfork this year. The appeal has always just been seeing a bunch of bands I like in one convenient location and there was no one I was super-pumped about seeing this year, and the weather was disgusting this past weekend.

The thing that keeps me away from things like Pfork is the weather, mostly. I fuckin' hate it so much. Fests in general are still fun, though. I didn't go to this year's edition but the PRFBBQ last summer was one of the greatest DIY events I've ever attended. Also R and I saw Murder City Devils at Thalia Hall last Monday and I wasn't even dead to the world the next day, despite being up until midnight on a school night!

I was at Pitchfork for a few hours on Friday, said hi to some friends and poster (like, silkscreen) people, but it was hot and I was not into it, so I just went home. Next day I totally skipped out and spent time with the family at the pool, or out of the rain/in the A/C and otherwise doing mundane stuff, and I never felt bad, not even for missing Sleater-Kinney, one of my fave bands, so fave that I saw them a bunch the first time around and feel good enough about my memories that I don't need more, tbh. With the rare exception, most of the acts there I'd rather see in a club, except that when they do play clubs I don't see them, which basically means I ended up ahead.

Also, for the first time I really did feel old! It was like being in a field hanging out with our babysitters and their friends. But that is neither here nor there. Lots of music to enjoy not outside with thousands. Like Eleventh Dream Day this Friday. Or Mekons last week. Or all sorts of shit not in or around a hot muddy field.

to be completely honest the last moments I spent at pfork fest years ago was hovering over an ex in the medical trailer after she got sunstroke for what, in retrospect, were completely dumb reasons as I overheard ghostface and raekwon playing, a show I really wanted to see. then we left and I haven't been back since :/

My ex had what might have been sunstroke at the first pfork fest, but then again it could also have been side effects from eating two gigantic pot brownies. Either way I missed most of Les Savy Fav.

Sarah gets sunstroke every time we go to Pitchfork, it's like a tradition.

Last year she got sunstroke standing in line to get in to Pitchfork. She had to sit down and recuperate before we even made it through the gates.
