Or, Live Another Half-Day.

bad sign when the trailers and ads look boring :/

I don't want to watch this. I don't even like the idea of it coming back. But I'll probably watch it anyway.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 5 May 2014 16:07 (nine years ago) link

yup

imago all the sheeple (Spottie), Monday, 5 May 2014 16:26 (nine years ago) link

I'll watch this for a bit at least, mainly cos it's set in my home town.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 6 May 2014 00:40 (nine years ago) link

how long had it been gone anyway? Man, the reboot cycles are getting shorter and shorter

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 6 May 2014 08:01 (nine years ago) link

Totally watching this

kinder, Tuesday, 6 May 2014 09:00 (nine years ago) link

Slightly disturbed by the fact that Chloe seems to have turned into a goth. Still, d/ling now.

goth colouring book (anagram), Tuesday, 6 May 2014 09:58 (nine years ago) link

Saw them recording a bit of this last weekend. Here is a picture of Kiefer pointing at someone (just noticed he's throwing devil horns)

Was tempted to sit up late last night and watch it on Sky at 1am when it broadcast, then remembered I had a life and had to get up in the morning. Will watch later though. Genuinely a bit stoked for this, even though it's basically been crap since about season 2.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 May 2014 12:52 (nine years ago) link

Surprised they were still filming it last weekend, I somehow assumed it must have been in the can for months. Where was this?

goth colouring book (anagram), Tuesday, 6 May 2014 13:00 (nine years ago) link

Lincoln's Inn Fields. I assume it was a re-shoot of something or other.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 May 2014 13:07 (nine years ago) link

Anyway, the scene was Jack running through traffic, I think he hit a taxi driver and got in his cab along with two injured women (one of whom was Hannah from Dexter). Couldn't really see for hedges and equipment and other cars in the scene.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 May 2014 13:10 (nine years ago) link

Here is a Daily Fail article about it, claiming it's in Vauxhall while showing a picture of Lincoln's Inn Fields:

This ruled. Wish it was going to be a full 24-episode season but maybe that means fewer ho-hum plots.

I didn't catch it last night, but I'll pull it up with ondemand. If they don't find a way to cram ex-prez Logan into this somehow, I'll be so disappointed. Gregory Itzin 4 LYFE!

SERIOUSLY

maura, Tuesday, 6 May 2014 16:09 (nine years ago) link

so yeah, this was pretty great

goth colouring book (anagram), Tuesday, 6 May 2014 21:18 (nine years ago) link

I'm assuming there's basically no need to catch up on what's been going on in Seasons 3-through-8 in order to watch this, right?

Matt DC, Sunday, 11 May 2014 13:11 (nine years ago) link

yeah, I also signed off after season 3 or 4. But is there any reason why this reboot should be better than the final seasons?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 11 May 2014 14:05 (nine years ago) link

This was pretty exciting.

Certainly we're doing so far in complete ignorance of the contents of seasons 5-8.

doing *ok* so far.

I'm assuming there's basically no need to catch up on what's been going on in Seasons 3-through-8 in order to watch this, right?

There's quite a bit of backstory about Jack and Audrey from season 6 which is relevant.

I just wikied that shit, perfectly adequate.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 14 May 2014 13:47 (nine years ago) link

Also I'm going to refrain from pointing out geographical inaccuracies from now on, just let me offer the highest praise to the taxi driver who can get someone from Charing Cross to a sprawling country estate in 7 mins.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 14 May 2014 13:49 (nine years ago) link

I do like how it's a relatively unhollywoody portrayal of London so far though; council estates ('housing projects', heh), grotty pubs and underpasses and that.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 14 May 2014 13:53 (nine years ago) link

I'm sure they said that they picked Jack up 20km South East of Central London, which would be ridiculous, so I must have misheard this.

Highly entertaining bobbins anyway, second episode especially. I like how it may as well not be in London at all.

Stephen Fry as the PM is not an intimidating prospect though, dunno why these guys are all cacking it.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 May 2014 14:05 (nine years ago) link

Yeah can take the idea more seriously than Hugh Grant, but only marginally.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 14 May 2014 14:07 (nine years ago) link

The depiction of "Parliament" (by which I guess they mean the House of Commons) was hilarious though

goth colouring book (anagram), Wednesday, 14 May 2014 14:26 (nine years ago) link

Haha yeah, if PM's question time was like that I would watch it all the time.

Just been watching Tate Donovan in the appalling 'Hostages' and Yvonne Strahovski in the appalling last seasons of 'Dexter' so I keep being surprised that this isn't as awful as those two. And Catelyn Stark!

kinder, Thursday, 15 May 2014 18:48 (nine years ago) link

It occurred to me last night when they were showing the refresher of scenes from the previous week at the beginning that when Jack shot protesters in the crowd he could've just as easily fired into the pavement without having to put bullets in people's legs. But that's Jack Bauer.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 17:31 (nine years ago) link

Our Jack, always makes sure the camera catches him giving people a sleepy neck cuddle or a very clearly non-lethal shot

DRONE CHASE

maura, Friday, 13 June 2014 04:23 (nine years ago) link

The scene where they swapped cars midway through DRONE CHASE was the one we saw getting filmed.

ailsa, Friday, 13 June 2014 06:06 (nine years ago) link

With three episodes left, I kind of feel like I'm getting shortchanged on the hoops they'd normally put me through to get to the reveal of the actual big bad.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 June 2014 06:16 (nine years ago) link

oh man only three??? :(

maura, Friday, 13 June 2014 12:24 (nine years ago) link

My favourite bits of this currently involve Stephen Fry trying to radiate Prime Ministerial authority.

There are 5 episodes left, BTW.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Friday, 13 June 2014 12:52 (nine years ago) link

But yeah it doesn't seem like enough time for the standard twisty turniness. It's all been relatively straightforward so far.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Friday, 13 June 2014 12:56 (nine years ago) link

Oh hey, you're right. My brain conflated "Day 9" with "Episode 9," but the most recently aired episode was actually the 7th.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 June 2014 13:54 (nine years ago) link

Seems like when the drone was chasing them, they could have then figured out where it was.

schwantz, Friday, 13 June 2014 18:23 (nine years ago) link

This show is simultaneously over-the-top ridiculous yet somehow half-arsed

kinder, Thursday, 19 June 2014 10:39 (nine years ago) link

"It's a NUCLEAR SUB" is this show's "his FATHER is the DISTRICT ATTORNEY"

I like that in the 24 universe all future FA cup finals will be contested on a spot where the US President got droned.

SPOILER ALERT:

How did Heller get off the pitch? He was clearly shown walking onto it.

goth colouring book (anagram), Monday, 30 June 2014 12:24 (nine years ago) link

He walked off of it

mh, Monday, 30 June 2014 16:17 (nine years ago) link

He only stood out there long enough to get some length of video they could loop. They were safely away by the time the missile strike occurred.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 June 2014 16:32 (nine years ago) link

Hands up all the 24 nerds who knew Heller wasn't dead because he never got a silent clock ...

ailsa, Monday, 30 June 2014 22:08 (nine years ago) link

Oh damn, you're right!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 30 June 2014 22:59 (nine years ago) link

Totally also forgot to mention that after noticing that DRONE CHASE was what we watched getting filmed, we rewound the scene and paused it frame by frame until, I think, we spotted ourselves lurking down the end of the road.

(disclaimer: possibly not us, but approx our heights and hairlines, and pretty much where we ended up standing and gawping before being told to piss off because they were still filming and we were in the way)

Oops, tiny. Anyway, totally us. Maybe.

schlump, Monday, 30 June 2014 23:34 (nine years ago) link

Need to get Chloe on it from her pub/office, I think :-(

ailsa, Monday, 30 June 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

Also, Jack not bothering with the any of his usual torture/angst/respect/trying-to-reason-with-baddies shit and just lobbing Catelyn Stark out a window was brilliant. This whole series has just about justified the existence of the last half a dozen seasons of this. Agree needs more President Logan though. Also secretly hoping for some comedy Kim peril for old times' sake.

ailsa, Monday, 30 June 2014 23:45 (nine years ago) link

I LOVE THIS SHOW! It's the Russians! No, it's the Chinese dude from several years ago, conveniently plot-expositioned by Chloe! No, it's both of them! And the US chief submarine dude will blow shit up based on a fax with NO VERIFICATION PROCEDURE WHATSOEVER.

(also, Borough Market to Liverpool Street on foot in less than a couple of minutes? O RLY? Also also, everyone seems to be going about their business in London quite the thing considering some mad fucker's blown up Wembley Stadium and a hospital with a drone, as well as another one getting diverted away from Waterloo into the Thames an hour ago)

ailsa, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 22:55 (nine years ago) link

As I alluded to earlier in the thread if I allowed myself to really let rip on all the geographical and cultural inaccuracies in this series of 24 we'd be here all night.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 23:17 (nine years ago) link

TV shows just do this, whether set in London or DC or Los Angeles.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 23:19 (nine years ago) link

if this is the last 24 series, they should make the fianl twist be 'jack is the bad guy all along'
and chloe would be all, 'whut? no way! well i guess he did like to torture people a lot'

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 23:33 (nine years ago) link

Of course, it just seems more hilarious/egregious when it's made by foreigners and set in your home town.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 23:46 (nine years ago) link

My personal brush with this was the 1986 movie 'Space Camp.' It was set in Huntsville, Alabama where the main Space Camp is located (and where I lived at the time), but the kids sneak out to go look at (and later launch) the space shuttle...which is 675 miles away in Cape Canaveral, Florida. It was a trip, in the movie, that only took a few minutes.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 July 2014 01:32 (nine years ago) link

Did anyone else expect Chloe to say, "I didn't say I was your best friend, I said 'only friend.'"?

Heller's final scene was pretty tragic.

relentlessly pecking at peace (President Keyes), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 22:51 (nine years ago) link

Getting older can cause more dread than any terrorist threat.

maura, Tuesday, 15 July 2014 22:53 (nine years ago) link

enjoyed this season enough overall but felt nothing for what happened in the last episode. Sutherland's reaction was good tho, as was the Prez's.

Strictly EZ Snappin' Nhex (Spottie), Tuesday, 15 July 2014 23:01 (nine years ago) link

Just now got around to finale. Audrey's fate didn't really seem impactful, because Audrey's always been scenery. Was way more affected by Heller's final scene and the exchange of Chloe for Jack. I was suspicious when Fox announced they were doing another season, but it ended up being among the best.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 19 July 2014 20:17 (nine years ago) link

This was pretty much the only season of 24 that got better as it went along rather than the worse, like all the others did. Probably best season since the first, maybe better? I can't rememeber anything they've done as good as that drone car chase.

Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 20 July 2014 00:15 (nine years ago) link

I'm not going to believe they're never doing another one until I see Jack Bauer die on screen or Kiefer Sutherland dies in real life.

Loved this, and how overblown it all was - who is Jack up against, is it the Islamists, the Russians, the Chinese? How about ALL THREE.
