"Think about it, if Iggy hated them so much, he would ignore them. Isn't that what we do to those we hate? I know i do."

Personally I prefer to bludgeon them to death with a large, heavy, blunt instrument; cut their bloody, still-twitching corpse into chunks first with a chainsaw then into smaller pieces with a sharp kitchen knife; collect all the pieces and wrap them in black bin-liners (it pays to buy good quality bin-liners for this, otherwise you often need to use a second one, which is time consuming amd may well work out to be more expensive in the long run) then bury them under the patio.... but each to their own.

I thought Iggy didn't even know who they were... he just spat toward (on) them because they were in their own safe & elite area.

..And rude, indecent, people don't deserveblah, ... YES! That's what Iggy Pop IS!

The Corrs were just watching and taking no part in the show. Iggy was just trying to get them involved. ...man.

keep telling yerself that luv, i reckon kelly osborne mightve got off a bit lighter...

-- stevem (bluesk...), January 6th, 2003.

If Iggy is who I think/hope he is, he would've done 10-fold worse on Kelly Osborne.

also, someone said Iggy had no right to spit on stage. He has every right to spit on stage. It's part of his show, and this is no hidden fact. When you go to the "guy who spits on people show-- you cant complain when you get spit on

Cripes! I can't believe this thread is still going.

Look, it's quite simple: fans of Iggy Pop and fans of the Corrs are *NEVER* going to reach an agreement on this issue.

My personal opinion, however, is that if you are sincerely a 'hardcore Corrs fan (a member of the HardCorr Corps?), you presumably don't take music very seriously. Face it. What do the Corrs ultimately do? They make pop music that is perfectly "pleasant" and "pretty" (with the faintest possible hint of Celtic folk music). That's fine and all, but said task has been handily accomplished by more talented hands for generations. Moreover, the real truth of the matter is that they wouldn't even have a recording contract if not for the fact that they're irrefutably lovely (well, `cept the brother, of course). Anyone who refutes that is living in a dreamworld. The music they make, while "pretty" and "pleasant" is inherently inconsequential and, once again, will in all probability not stand the test of time.

Iggy Pop, meanwhile, is quite undeniably a living legend. To brandish an adjective that is sorely overused in the lexicon of the rock hack, his work with the Stooges is positively *SEMINAL*. His solo career, while frought with hills and valleys of quality, has produced some equally seismic moments, not least among them THE IDIOT and LUST FOR LIFE. While it may be true that Ig's last several albums have failed to set the world ablaze, even his mose uninspired album (NAUGHTY LITTLE DOGGY? BLAH BLAH BLAH???) is more interesting and has more going for it than the entire artistic canon of the Corrs. I mean, really, what the fuck have the Corrs done besides make "pretty"/"pleasant" music and flit about as if life were one big fragrance commercial?

In terms of Iggy's arguably disgraceful behaviour that night, I'd love to believe that Iggy intentionally aimed his ire at them *because* they were Corrs, but I guess it was just dumb luck that they happened to be sitting in the balcony. As has been stated before, this is what Iggy does, and there's certainly enough documentation out there to have forewarned the Corrs about it. If they can't take Iggy's brand of heat, then what the fuck were they doing in his kitchen? Andrea deserved a good bit of rudeness for sporting that New York Dolls t-shirt on an album cover not too long ago anyway.

And shame on the pregnant Corr for going to a smokey rock club to begin with. Fuck was she thinking?

Side Issue...
Do any examples of the following genres exist: Straight-Edge HardCorrs or HardCorrs Rap?

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

I have to disagree, I put Iggy in the same,"has been" category as Liz Taylor, Mike Jackson...famous for being famous, not for producing anything worthwhile to anyone but their own fans. The Corrs might be in that same category, except later on in the future(as they could still sell out arenas currently). So really, it's quite simple, they are all the same, just in a different way, uniquely to their respective fans.

The Corrs weren't in the cheap seats, where you would embrace being bathed in human biohazard waste possibly tinged with HIV, HEPC, TB..., they were up in the balcony where it's commonly expected to watch all the shananigans without any imminent danger coming your way.

As for Carorline being preggers in a concert, big deal, she was seated and not in a mosh pit. Exposure to a bit of cigarette smoke and alcohol in moderation throughout the course of a pregnancy is not the detramental catastrophe that you peeps are making it out to be. Very matter of factly, some experts even argue that it produces a stronger baby, with a superior immune system. So her taking her pregnant self to a concert and sitting in a box surrounded by her family is really not a big deal. However, having some cut-up, oldfart, junkie with a few catchy songs, go out of his way to spit on her and throw shit up at her is.

As someone who is somewhat familiar with the Corrs, I have to admit that their not the high and mighty, smug individuals that the Iggy fans play them to be. They just aren't self hating and can't be bothered by those who take themselves too seriously, such as an anorexic, belittling, little man on stage and his throng of self deprecating followers(who think his music is higher than thou).

As I stated earlier it's just a matter of taste and how serious you actually take yourself for liking what you like. Some people seem to think that because they base their lives around a certain type of music and are well versed in it, they have the right to disparage others because they don't agree with their lifestyle or tastes. We are never going to agree, and a thousand points could be argued in favor of either side, but quite frankly, I just can't be bothered any further.

Alex Blowshardinnyc (clickster), Thursday, 9 January 2003 22:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

You know, comparing Iggy Pop to someone who is unquestionably one of the most influential performers to ever hit the scene doesn't help your case any and makes you look really, really stupid.

(Or, to put it another way, how many artists out there are imitating Michael Jackson? How many are imitating the Corrs? Which group is more successful?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

"We are never going to agree"

That was the first point of my last post, you ass.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

That's such a fuckin' cop-out, by the way, to rant and rail about your opinion, then say "quite frankly, I just can't be bothered any further" and not even leave a credible e-mail address.

Moreover, you take a potshot or two at people who take music seriously, oblivious to the fact that this is a music discussion board (i.e. *EVERYONE* here obviously takes music seriously).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

.. Hate to keep this going, but it's kinda turned fun:

They just aren't self hating and can't be bothered by those who take themselves too seriously, such as an anorexic, belittling, little man on stage and his throng of self deprecating followers(who think his music is higher than thou).

..So, again, why the FUCK were they at an Iggy Pop concert?

Three times they all hurtled round the room, before careening back out through the door, which slammed again, with an enormous dusty crash.

"All? "Is it possible the Corrs were at the concert because they liked Iggy Pop? You dickheads, THINK before saying "why the fuck were they at the concert?""

If you had bother to read the thread you'll realise that this possibility has already been considered and rejected for the very simple and obvious reason that if they liked Iggy Pop they would have known exactly what to expect when attending one of his gigs.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Saturday, 11 January 2003 09:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

i'm in the midst of a quandary b/c of this thread. on one hand, i kinda agree with mr. corrs' fan (and tom): spitting on someone is really gross and inexcusably low-class. on the other hand, you go to an Iggy Pop show you expect Iggy Pop to act like Iggy Pop (i.e., spitting, punching, etc.) and if the corrs really are fans, they'd know what to expect. on the other hand, saying that also leads to "blame the victim," which i don't like either.

and no, i don't like the corrs' music very much.

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 11 January 2003 12:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

But has anyone heard the Corrs version of "Pussy Power"?

If the Corrs had just LOOKED AT THIS They would've known what they were up against.

"If you had bother to read the thread you'll realise that this possibility has already been considered and rejected for the very simple and obvious reason that if they liked Iggy Pop they would have known exactly what to expect when attending one of his gigs."

How can anyone possibly know what to expect at any artist's concert? If everyone was predictable no one would go to the concerts, because they would know what to expect. The Corrs were obviously fans, and Iggy Pop is a totally irrational person. He would get really boring and not be as popular if he continually did the same things at every concert. How can anyone predict anyone's behaviour, especially Iggy Pop's?
By the way that little spat between the two "men" well it all seems very immature to me, why don't you both get lives.

“What were the Corrs doing at an Iggy Pop concert to begin with?!” You’re right. How dare they, with their own non-spitting on-stage mannerisms and dissimilar music style, show their faces before the grace that is “Mr Pop”? Come on, you've got to be joking, you egotistic wankers.

So Iggy Pop makes a so-called ‘profession’ out of being an egocentric, altruistic, maniacal, twisted fuck. At least he makes money from it. But what can be said for you sad assholes that call yourselves his fans? Defending someone as disgusting as “Mr Pop” who salivates and hemorrhages on his drugged up, fucked up followers?? Not much.

It’s plain to see that you lowlifes know nothing about the Corrs. To say that they are lacking in talent is a complete joke. Try playing Toss the Feathers or Trout in the Bath on the violin (you know what that is right…?) and you’ll eat your own shit before saying that again.

Get a life you sad, sad cunts because the Corrs are absolutely fucking brilliant and as far as their true fans are concerned, here to stay (yes in 30 years time).

Amy G is absolutely right, The Corrs have every right to attend an Iggy Pop gig if they want to - what they DON'T have the right to do is complain afterwards when Iggy does the stuff that Iggy has always done. That's a bit like getting on a roundabout and then complaining that it goes round and round and round.

"So Iggy Pop makes a so-called ‘profession’ out of being an egocentric, altruistic, maniacal, twisted fuck."

"Altruistic"? Are you entirely sure?!?

Will The Corrs still be around in 30 years time?

Well.... why not? Stranger things have been known. The Eagles have been around that long, Phil Collins has been around that long

Will anyone (other than their own fans) consider them to be or have been in any way important or significant in the development of modern music?

I think not.

Try eating your own shit and I think you’ll find playing Toss the Feathers or Trout in the Bath on the violin are a far more appealing proposition.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 13 January 2003 12:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am not a great fan of IP but I know plenty of his music and like some of it and going to an Iggy Pop gig is something I can imagine doing. And if I got spat on by Iggy Pop I'd be really disgusted and annoyed. I'm sure the hardcore Iggy brown-nosers here "know what to expect" but speaking as someone who knows a fair bit about music I hadn't heard of the spitting routine before, so it's not fair to bash the Corrs on that front.
