No mention of the Red "I Should Tell Ya Momma On You" single? You sicken me, Stones Throw thread.

that matthew larkin cassell album is one of the most beautiful things EVER with a really great digging story behind it.

surprised they're getting into the minimal wave game. doesn't seem black enough for them

jaxon, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 17:19 (fourteen years ago) link

The minimal wave comp shall be dope. Stones Throw mantra has always been from what I have seen- "We put out what we like".

Tooth Far I (csa), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 19:06 (fourteen years ago) link

what is "minimal wave"?

IRL moderator (The Reverend), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 19:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i guess i meant more minimal synth. it's like minimal, obscure new wave. lots belgian acts. i guess Minimal Wave is a label putting out new and reissues of this kinda stuff.

this was released on minimal wave. so dope

ugh why is everything on that minimal wave label so awesome yet so expensive

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

xp okay that does seem weird for ST to be getting into

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 7 December 2009 21:51 (fourteen years ago) link

the new james pants is great. sounds like a mixture of ariel pink and john maus. also, he is channeling some strange religious vibe, i can tell he has been listening to a lot of the christian psych stuff ( dr hooker, azitis) and somehow mixing that with his usual electro/soul/post punk tendencies. its fucked up in a good way...i think the people who expect more of the last record the quirky hip/hop/party/electro stuff will def hate it... he's gone somewhere else with this one.

hope you're right about the Ethiopium, I wanted to like the Oxperiments album but it was pretty arduous. Couple good beats though. When a couple stonesthrow ppl + cut chemist opened for Mulatu this year, they were all fuckin great.

guess paul whites plan to release limited edition albums/singles full of cut-n-paste samples (e.g)to get attention paid off then.

no, but an increase in profile via stones throw is not going to hurt.

the aloe blacc lp is excellent as well...

Calumny (stevie), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 13:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Got word recently that Stones Throw worked out a deal to put together a comp from Little Rock's True Soul Records. I'm so happy about this. Will finlly get to hear the catalog without chancing upon the (way less than) occasional 45 in the local Savers. You'd think being here in Little Rock it'd be easier to come across this stuff.

Damn that Paul white podcast is so good. The Todd rundgren section was unbelievably beautiful

In "why is this on Stone's Throw" news, they're putting out the Anika album apparently. Which is produced by the Portishead guy. It sounds like Nico singing over ESG acetates.

And she covers "Masters of War" and "Terry," one of those "why did my boyfriend have to die on his motorcycle" tunes originally by Twinkle.

J Rocc album out this week, my thoughts here, pfork review today here -- it's really good!

hey ilxor, thanks for contributing, glad you stopped by (ilxor), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 17:26 (thirteen years ago) link

wasnt feeling the j rocc album. sounded like a bunch of fake dj shadow tracks - not at all what i expected from j rocc as it just wasnt very funky really (liked play this too a bit though). the one sampling nas was great, and the very last track was great. the rest of it though, nah. sounded quite tired. shame as hes such a great dj.
