What about Catatonia? It was only a few years ago they were pretty much ubiquitous, dominating the album and singles charts and the music press and now you'd be hard pressed to see any mention of them anywhere.

Maybe they're not completely forgotten, just slightly obscure. Hmmm.

i don't know for sure but i think Mark Seymour is now a solo artiste.

They had 3 entries in the latest edition of Virgin's "All Time Top 1000 Albums". Doesn't sound "forgotten" to me (and btw. Family had one album in that list too)

I knew that -- H&C officially disbanded sometime in the mid-'90s and Mark Seymour the solo artist entertained the Australian Olympic athletes back in 2000 -- I was just inquiring whether they were just obscure or practically being erased from music history.

Occasionally VH1 Classic surprises me by throwing in "Throw Your Arms Around Me" in the "All Star Jams" block, and I do remember seeing "Is There Anybody In There?" and "Talking to a Stranger" (I doubt I can express to anyone how much I adore that song) early in the year, but it doesn't seem as though they get much attention these days, aside from the odd mention of, "You know, Russell Crowe is a big Hunnas fan."

Well, yeah. I think Russell is a fine actor, and I even had a crush on him for a couple of years ca. "The Insider", but, um, so? I would rather there be more fans around here of the Hunnas, or that the local radio station that plays '80s music included H&C in their playlist.

Oh well. Just dreaming.

I don't think Men at Work are "erased". I think as long as there are people such as myself out there who at least remember "Classic MTV" and "The Big '80s", Men at Work will never be erased. The Belle Stars? Didn't they do "Iko Iko" for the "Rain Man" soundtrack? I liked that cover. Bucks Fizz? I don't think ANYONE could forget THEM. And anyway, weren't they going for a long period of time after the '80s were over? I thought they were the British equivalent of Menudo. Kajagoogoo? Never forgettable, not as long as "Too Shy" keeps getting airplay on your everyday generic "best mix of the '80s, '90s, and today" radio station. Blancmange? You might have a point there. Really horrible, too, as I thought Blancmange were a good group. Classix Nouveaux, being erased? Over my dead body! Sal Solo & co. will NEVER be forgotten, not if I can help it! *attempts evil cackle, coughs*

Jellyfish probably have a bigger following now than back when the band existed. There are lots of people like me who love the band despite not having discovered them until long after they broke up.

There is an entire international underground of Jellyfish influenced "soft" powerpop acts.

In the interest of fairness, I'd like to rebut:

Cake (well, I live in the Bay Area and they still come around fairly often)
Hum (and I used to live in Champaign with many many people who are still hardcore fans)
Wallflowers (dude, come on, it's Bob Dylan's kid; they're not going anywhere)
Toadies (I have friends who still talk about them, albeit more often as a punchline)
Drop Nineteens (ditto)
Ned's Atomic Dustbin (I still own God Fodder. It's a good album! Really!)

There was a few good bands in Bloomington around that time that never got to make a record. Trailside Killers/Joyride/Speed Luxury was a great band.

I'm not trying to take it away from you, Carey....so long as you keep your grubby little mitts off my Birdland disc.
