forksclovetofu:
did you know that in the early 90s, Stone Gossard ran a small record label called Loose Groove (or Loosegrooves) that had a rap band on it called "Prose and Concepts"? I don't have time to look into them atm, but thought maybe this will help your search.

Weapon of Choice were also on Loose Groove. Kinda P-Funk, kinda wacky, might have included a line like "ain't nothin' but a chicken wing..."

On September 5, 2008 the rapper was hospitalized and placed on life-support after he collapsed when his kidneys failed during a game of pickup basketball. On November 22, 2008, Breed reportedly died in his sleep while at a friend's home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The guy dying while you were seeking him/his song is kinda reminiscent of second/third-gen. Holocaust memoirs. Makes the discovery more poignant, maybe.

do you think you were imagining/misremembering the part about Stone Gossard? I don't see any evidence that there was a video for this song or a Pearl Jam connection. what an awesome lost & found story though.
― why delonge face? (unregistered), Thursday, 30 June 2011 14:31 (twelve years ago) link
it could be in my head! I don't think there WAS a video; my hazy memory was watching this in high school (which is wrong, since this came out in 99 and i woulda been a college dropout by then so that's even weirder) on some sort of a live show with stone gossard sitting in with a rap group for a hotlanta style performance on MTV

Breed is great, had some play in the bay area even tho he was a Michigan dude.
Funkafied is the album I would suggest, the whole thing fits the vibe of that track you discovered.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7Qr7BbxT8o

The first time I ever heard Outkast was when Stone Gossard played "Ain't No Thang" on the radio when I was 14.
"Alright. That was - that was Weapon of Choice and they're out on Loosegroove records, which is a label I'm starting here in Seattle. And right now we're gonna listen to something else - we're gonna be playing some more Loosegroove stuff later in the night - but right now I really feel like we need to go to Atlanta and play some Outkast. This one goes out to Dirk and Lonnie. See ya."http://www.monkeywrenchradio.org/spr/19950108.html

I know I might be late but I too have been trying to figure out who sings that song for almost the past 10 years. I first heard the song maybe my sophomore or junior year in high school. It went like "Anything you wanna do, it's all good ridin drop top fleetwood thru the hood, everything is everything....(something,something) nothing but a chicken wing, shorty do your thang". To me it sounded like Jazzy Phae was on the track singing that hook. So I too would like to know & I'm a big music head...been that way since birth. But um yeah the hook keeps playing very clear in my head & it does sound like a down south song similar to Tela's "Bring em out" song.
