you realize that it took "wasted", for instance, like a whole 5 months to peak?

& btw "all the way turnt up" hasn't peaked yet

it's amazing how much sarge has learned since the heady days of "throw it in the bag"

i wasn't around then obv but i think the implication is that you posted effusively about singles and then when other people started digging them you hopped off the wagon. not sure if this is true or not.

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:08 (fourteen years ago) link

naw, just aversion to hype/contraristan combo

jhøsh? (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:09 (fourteen years ago) link

i dunno i definitely can be obnoxious about "this song's been out forever where have you been" but i dunno about hopping off wagons -- it's rare that i turn on a song after i like it, even sometimes if something gets oppressively overplayed it'll still be in my top 10 at the end of the year

goodness gracious great walls o gina (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:12 (fourteen years ago) link

that wasn't my implication, just j0rdan's misinterp

jhøsh? (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:13 (fourteen years ago) link

yo dudes this isnt contrastanning -- its a good song *i guess* im arguing that its the kind of song you get tired of after awhile. just kinda got one hook, which is pretty incessant

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah it was a xpost to j0rdan -- i can live w/ the contraristan tag although like anyone i'll say my opinion is my opinion and its relationship to hype is incidental most of the time (xpost again)

goodness gracious great walls o gina (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:15 (fourteen years ago) link

sometimes you guys gotta keep in mind tho that for non-west coast rap, I live in the absolute last place to get it

xp: not accusing you of contraristanning for this, more w/r/t the nu-bay stuff that I find really boring

jhøsh? (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

anyway "turnt up" is 100% garbage, don't know why rappers ever started enunciating everything like Tom DeLonge

goodness gracious great walls o gina (some dude), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

the pernicious influence of yung la

jhøsh? (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

how am i 'contristanning' because i like something?

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

however that non-word is spelled lol

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

at least nu-bay dudes can actually rap, jerk music fan

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

:O

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

at least tom delonge doesn't wear american eagle branded shirts

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

lol at pulling that card during a discussion of "All the Way Turnt Up"

i think ur a contraristan (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:21 (fourteen years ago) link

I find the amateurishness of the jerk raps charming tho (same with "Turnt Up"). The Bay guys are just competent enough to fade in the background. I don't really get how you shit on Gibbs for being average gangsta rap from an average gangsta while praising these Bay dudes for the exact same.

i think ur a contraristan (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:23 (fourteen years ago) link

shit getting heated! :D

sarge coined "contraristanning" right? i don't think any of us are using it right tbh, i'm confused

joe ic?y (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:24 (fourteen years ago) link

don't worry, no one's gotten called out by their real name yet

i think ur a contraristan (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:24 (fourteen years ago) link

some of the bay dudes are average, obviously, bu they're also not on the front cover of the LA weekly.

the jacka is exceptional, & he managed the cover of murder dog, but its not like anyone 'around here' (at least in the e-blog world that has made yelawolf a 'star') pays attention to murder dog anyway

sittin in the range with the frog eyes / aint nothin on me but all eyez

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:27 (fourteen years ago) link

gonna move all discussion of bay rap off a thread on which it obviously does not belong

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 03:30 (fourteen years ago) link

the big pop rock thing that comes to mind for me is orianthi. i quite like her. i haven't seen much discussion of her on here (or really anywhere else), so i have no idea how she's being received otherwise.

Kinda Avril Lavigne like

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 05:12 (fourteen years ago) link

it's pretty hard to misuse -- someone who stans for shit for the purpose of being a contrarian

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 06:09 (fourteen years ago) link

... no i just moved it to a thread that was relevent dude. which it didnt seem in the rolling pop thread considering its pretty much underground rap

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 06:11 (fourteen years ago) link

oh lol i thought this was fruity swag, my bad

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 06:11 (fourteen years ago) link

& theres nothing 'contrarian' about liking bay area rap. there are lots of people who like bay area rap

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 06:11 (fourteen years ago) link

that wasn't me

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 06:12 (fourteen years ago) link

sorry for hardmanning ;-)

Kesha's Tik Tok is not only pop #1 but it's #36 on the Latin pop chart. Triste (= sad)

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

iirc it's not uncommon for big gringo pop hits to chart on the Latin pop chart at all

i think ur a contraristan (The Reverend), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 19:01 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess so. I know my local Latin pop radio station is now playing more English language pop-dance #s.

They even have autotune.

BoA received the honorable "U.S. Billboard Publishers Award 2009" at the first annual Japanese Billboard Award Ceremony.

After that, she performed her latest song "Possibility (featuring Miura Daichi)." Unfortunately, the live band made a mistake by starting the song in the middle part instead of the beginning.

hey al, if you're reading, what are the numbers like wrt "lemonade" & airplay? i can't see the chart on billboard.com and don't have any firsthand knowledge since i won't be back in miami until march

also waka is making a run at hip-hop/r&b top 10

birdman mumia (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 13 February 2010 01:20 (fourteen years ago) link

"Lemonade" just entered the R&B top 20, I hear it on the radio a lot and definitely feel like it's gaining a lot of steam at the moment

It's gotta be better than his unimpressively sung opening verse on "We Are the World 25"
