A thread for the Siouxsie reissues

I think they sound really, really great! Was just playing Dreamhouse yesterday and it's so deep and detailed. That BBC box is a cracker too.

So are Peepshow, Superstition and The Rapture being re-done? Anyone know?

BBC box is top of the list next for me. I got into them through the 'Nocturne' disc so I'm looking forward to more live stuff. There's doesn't seem to be many decent Banshees bootlegs on the web. I did download a Rockpalast WDR show from Koln in 81 on the Juju tour which was excellent thought. How great is John McGeogh?

As for the sound problems. This is from an amazon review of Juju;
"When I first read his review about the dropouts, I was skeptical because his was the only review of the three albums that talked about problems with audio quality; but as soon as I received my copies of the three new albums, I threw in Juju and listed for the supposed right-channel dropouts. There's no question about it - they're there. So the next logical step in trying to debunk his review was to rush straight back to my original (Geffen, not Polydor) CD that I bought 12 years ago to see if the same problems were present. Thanks to the not-so-subtle magic of having two CD drives on my computer, I was able to compare the same snippets of audio in rapid succession. The result: the original discs didn't contain the dropouts that are on the remaster. In fact, on "Into The Light," there's a crystal clear peak in volume on the original CD where the remaster's right channel gurgles.

When it comes to volume and clarity, this disc is all over the map (though not as extreme as the last two tracks on "Kaleidoscope" - How a demo version of "Happy House" can sound infinitely better than the remastered version of "Israel" is mind-boggling). To use just two examples on "Juju," the remastered "Into The Light" makes the original CD sound as though it's being played under two feet of water, and I'm not talking about the removal of producer Nigel Gray's "walking on the moon" sound that permeates the entire album. In contrast, there appears to be no upgrade in sound quality on "Sin In My Heart."

I must have cloth ears - all of this has passed me by. Will have a listen to some of this tonight. I'm not really that fussed about the odd glitch though.

I thought they all sounded great loud on my stereo. It's only since I put them on my mp3 and listened through headphones that I began to notice some of the drop outs etc. Like I said though, I don't have any originals to compare with so I can't speak with any authority at all really. The music is superb though. Can't believe I overlooked them for so long.

Same here, actually. I didn't get the fuss about either the Siouxsie or the New Order reissues -- both sound just fine to my ears, but maybe I'm just "not listening critically enough" or what have you.

Really? Aside from the singles "Join Hands" never really grabbed me. What are you hearing that makes you react that way?

steve severin's fb page states they are doing a 20 disc mega box including a dvd and all the albums and singles.

20?? Let's see... 11 proper albums, "Nocturne", 4 discs from "Downside Up", 3 from "At The BBC", one for that 1981 gig he mentions on his page. That's 20!

first album was a double in the remasters, rest just had bonus tracks. doubt the BBC seshs 'd be in this. that's 18!

Funny, when I managed to get JoinHands for Foppcheap, I thought it a reasonably consistent album up to the Lords Prayer. Like sides 3 and 3.5 of "The Scream"...

This version of TLP seemed quite different to the muffled Roxy live version I had in song 'bits'. I nearly fell off my chair (I was driving) when her bit of "Knocking on Heavens Door" went into the Legendary Stardust Cowboy track.

It's totally mad, daftest thing they ever did. I'm assuming the original was meant to have more (um..) menace behind it.

who exactly would buy such a "megabox"?

It appears the Banshees’ archival releases indeed won’t be limited to the final four reissues. Dropping further hints on the Banshees’ Facebook group, Severin this week wrote, “Something else drops on Oct. 20th. Another thing in November. Something in the New Year and something BIG in March.”

I am really, really starting to sink into the oppressively smothering hollow shell that is Join Hands

Yeah, that was the last Siouxsie album I went back and got - 20 years after first getting into them!

Something about enduring MN-esque winter temperatures for the past 6 weeks for the first time in over 20 years combined with more concentrated snow than I've ever seen in my life has pushed me into the exact right headspace to appreciate every nook and cranny of this album, which has not kept me from looping "Icon" and "Playground Twist" for hours at a time.

that's a great album. it was unfairly maligned for a long time.

JH always seemed a bit short despite the superfluois padding (Lord's Prayer - yawn) but the highs (ICON! Premature Burial!) definitely kicked my ass as a wee goth

Join Hands was always the one that seemed the most remarkable to me. Like, Kaleidoscope has better jams, but Join Hands is just this dark vision

Yeah it shows the band that they could have been but I guess the departure of the rhytm section acted as a reset button for them

having not heard the previous set of remasters with extra tracks, i have to say this new cheap-n-cheerful boxset of the first 6 albums (coverart by one of our own !), sounds fantastic.

or, am i not an enough of a fanboy to notice the subtle f*ck ups ?

tis a very slimline boxset, no credits, nothing.

wow this box is cheap. i will probably buy it; I just sold almost all my cds but still.

xp yeah a Downside Up reissue for a reasonable price would be awesome. But please god not in a clamshell box.
