Cats and Dogs is like an entire album that sounds like "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" Total sonic amazement.

that one and Thank You are the most straight-up rock 'n roll and possibly my favourites as a result

untitled (2nd s/t) is my favorite. short, a little uneven within that (hey, it suits them), just starting to get their sound together, but damn i love those songs: "lightning boxer", "air", "sometimes", "junkie nurse", "blood flowers", "hallucination". so sexy, sad & crushed. excellent work for years after, but i don't think they ever topped it.
cats and dogs an almost impossibly close 2nd. if "cleveland" and "steal yr face" were on it, might swing the other way.
slight drop down to thank you & accelerator.

Veterans of Disorder and Pound for Pound are like one (awesome) album for me, I can't remember which songs are on which and I probably got them at the same time.

there's a slight drop-off in form with those last two IMO, but yeah they're still great. I remember "Waterslide" got a load of daytime play on Radio 1 when it was released as a single because Mark Radcliffe was a fan, it was weird/cool hearing them on the radio.

air air air air air airair air, she needs it too
^ my all-time favorite RT lyrics, next to the "if you can fly, or collapse all of the time" stanza of "cleveland"

I do that every so often and opine to myself but I generally start with Cats & Dogs when I do. It's a worthy exercise imo.
